One hundred and twenty four

One hundred and twenty four

Small lights streaked into the trees like demonic hail exploding where they hit a solid object. Men ducked for cover as bark blasted off trees and sprayed into their faces, then popped back up to fire off another round or two, only to be driven back to the damp ground.

Cries of pain told of the lights exploding on fragile flesh and screams suggested men gravely wounded.

The aliens stopped their advance on the house and turned to face the threat from the woods. Solid shot hissed into their number and passed on to impact cars with metallic thumps. Small aliens fell to the assault, once again the aliens underestimating the human reaction.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Long legs, then a thin body, appeared on the ramp as a large alien worked its way out of the ship to view the havoc. Bullets sparked off the ship near the alien as it bowed its head to look out from the confines of the hatch.

Lack of ammunition was becoming a factor in the fight. Men searched the bodies of the dead for the precious shells needed to continue the battle. Still, the lights plummeted on the men as they worked their way into the deeper cover of the pine trees while searching for more bullets. Pine needles showered the men deafened by the quantity of explosions, ear shattering cracks that sounded a near continuous barrage.

More of the small aliens fell to the ground while they raised their hands and pointed their weapons at the men hiding in the trees, a precision movement that was taking too much time to complete.

The lights continued to dive on the trees; a flood of light that seemed to have no end.
