“Uh… *Yawn*... man that was one hell of a good nap, still, I best get moving on back home since it's probably already late and Mom yells off my ear.”
Cory Bright, a high school senior, awakens taking the moment to rub his two eyes while still going through the process until the clear view of them sees a different scene.
Where it was once close to nighttime is now full-blown daylight and when just laying on simple green grass now turns into a field of different color flowers.
“Whoa hold on a minute this isn’t the park, I visit at times just to take a nap from time to time.” Cory thought.
He rubs his eyes one more time to see that nothing has changed. Everything was the same, making him start to worry a little bit. Moves his head to look around catching on the many trees and large bushes around telling Cory this could be some woods or forest while standing up from the center of this flower field.
Yet this could also be some possibility of a dream that is happening and Cory needs to just wake up again from the dream, but for the next second, noises are coming from one direction.
“Hello… is there anyone there,” Cory asked, getting no answer, but noises still kept on from the tree by the level of shaking the leaves were going.
Soon five figures pop out of those trees showing their appearances to be mixed between a raven and a Dragonfly, the body having the legs, wings, and eyes like that of a Dragonfly. Where the same body is covered in black feathers and the head still looks like a raven.
“Oh yeah, I got to be dreaming of looking at a weird-looking creature like these guys.” Cory thought.
At the moment of just staring at his combined-looking creature between two others, one of them let out a cry similar to what a normal raven would make and descended toward Cory with a speed too high to keep eyes on.
The next second his right shoulder came to shoot out blood taking just one second for poor Cory to have sunk in that head of his as the pain did the same and he let out a loud cry.
Now learning from the life-threatening way that this is no dream all he can do is run for his life as there is no way to just stand there and let this Raven dragonfly thing tear him to pieces.
Turning around and bringing out all the strength needed right now to have those two legs of his. Putting them over the limit they are usually used to going when not running to get away from danger.
Lucky to dodge one or two attacks from other Raven dragonfly creatures, but the third one lands and hits the back of his left shoulder. Still, Cory was able to get out of the open field area bumping into one of the trees in his way.
Losing footing for a few seconds hitting the ground till getting back on his feet to keep on running. He hopes that running through some trees will make it hard to keep up.
Looking back, these creatures weren't having much trouble flying past the trees with ease because the area was familiar to them.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“No way!... damn it got to lose them somehow.” Cory thought.
Thinking fast, an idea while running away that matters no more when one of the Raven dragonflies was able to get ahead, ending right in front of Croy way when his head turned back to see.
It starts to use its four wings to create a wind attack that forms blades being sent flying toward it.
Something like that was certainly a strange way of attacking but had to be dodged when jumping to the side to get out of the way. Allowing the tree behind him to take on those four wind blades that cut through it in four pieces.
Cory couldn’t believe what he saw happen with his own eyes since an attack would have done the same to his body being killed in such a way.
He soon shakes that thought of getting back up for it to be too late when the five raven dragonflies have gathered around him. Where it looks like if he tries to run again it will leave an open for any of them to attack from behind.
Cory does spot a stick on the ground near him, picking it up with a second thought and holding it like a sword at the creatures not afraid of it.
“Yeah there is no way, I’m going to live this one with using a stick against them if there has to be another way that I can think up.” Cory thought.
The raven dragonfly is about to get ready to attack him altogether; each one comes to be assaulted by an unknown figure moving faster than no one could have seen when these creatures are attacked.
Their bodies hit the ground showing Cory they have been slashed in half in different ways bleeding in a pool of their blood.
He was slightly happy to not have to face them but soon went back to being on guard since whoever took care of them was still around.
Cory comes to meet the one who kills these raven dragonflies, seeing it to be someone or something covered by a large black cloak. Unable to see anything else to tell him what this mysterious being could be, he opened his mouth to speak to the mysterious being.
“Are you friendly or foe? Please say thank you, I don’t think this stick is going to do much against you.” Cory says, trying to make a joke that could lighten the mood.
It took nearly a minute to pass until the one he talked to made a response back.
“I got no reason to harm you as long as you got no reason to attack with that stick human.” The mystery figure says.
“I don’t just like to have it in my hands to at least make me feel a little brave for the moment.”
Cory relaxed his arms putting them done with the stick still in one hand while at the same time feeling the intense pain of the two wound cuts on his body sink in to remind him as the bleeding hurt.
“You were hurt by those raven dragonflies, I don’t want to share what cost me money, but then again I don’t want to leave you hurt as it won’t sit well with me here take this.” The mysterious figure says reaching from something inside the cloak to take out a red liquid bottle.
Cory drops the stick to make sure of catching the small healing potion in both hands, almost letting it smash to the ground. He takes a good look at it and this liquid looks similar to blood which weirded him out.
“What is this, blood?” Cory asked.
“No it is not blood in that battle it is a healing potion, you should know that humans do have some lack of brain.”
He went silent thinking over what he heard and came to focus on something else for the next moment to ask about.
“Why are you calling humans, aren’t you one as well or are you not,” Cory asked yet another question.
The answer was no, instead, the action takes the lead when the hood of the black cloak comes undone to show the face of one not human at all. What Cory sees is a female by the impression of the face, she has very long ears, a reptile-like scale on the forehead with short long dark blue hair, red eyes, and light green skin.
“Whoa, are you some type of reptile?” Cory asked his next third question which got her to be annoyed.
“Am I kobold isn’t that clear enough for you to see? I don’t get it. Why are you asking me two simple questions that are so easy to answer? As if to act like someone not from this world.”
“Because I’m not, I have no idea where I am or what this place is or exactly what you are. I was just sleeping on the grass near the park and then woke up next in a field of different colored flowers until those weird-looking things came out of nowhere to attack me where you show up the way you're looking. Honestly, there is still a part of me believing this to still be a dream.”
The kobold female is quite trying to ponder about what Cory said as to her it sounded like one to be crazy. This makes this one about saying goodbye to this human being on her way to not get further involved.
That changes when more raven dragonflies start making their way to their location as they somehow sense their fellow companions have been killed and there is a need for revenge.
“Not good, we got to go now.”
