A Tale of Three Brothers
Chapter 39: Let's Talk (Spar), Brother

Chapter 39: Let's Talk (Spar), Brother

Fuelled by anger and frustration, Ember walked with purpose, heavily, but fast. His thoughts were swirling, his emotions are ready to burst from his chest, and without knowing, he was already at the hallway going into the direction of the training gym. He had unknowingly clenched his fist too tight that his knuckles turned white, and when he looked up, he suddenly stopped.

He saw Val in front of him, blocking his way, he clenched his already white-knuckled fists, and clenched his jaw. He glared at Val, with a serious glint in his eyes, and opened his mouth, he said, "Get out of my way.", the way he said it was much colder than how he talked to the man in the interrogation room earlier.

When Val heard it, he slightly flinched but didn't move, clenched one of his hands into a fist, and replied, "I will not. We have to talk, brother", throwing back the glare at Ember.

Ember was about to say something, when suddenly, the door to their side, was opened and Dr. Lewis came out. He raised a brow, curious about what the two were up to, looking at them from side to side. When he noticed that both were on the verge of fighting, an invisible tension between them, he sighed internally, 'God, those two's tempers', he thought.

Both brothers are not intending to explain anything, so he went to extreme measures. He took a big deep breath, and yelled, earning two startled redhead young men. "Who the fuck do you think you both are, huh?! Why are you both fucking blocking the hallway?!"

The subordinate behind Dr. Lewis was scared, but nonetheless, awe-inspired, and somehow, worshipping the man in front him. He was staring at Dr. Lewis's back, praising him internally for nagging the two powerhouse brothers in the hallway.

'I guess no one would believe me if it comes from me that the Head Doctor would just shamelessly nag them', then he somehow flinched when he heard the doctor yelled at the brothers.

Dr. Lewis slowly stepped in closer to the two, earning the brothers stepping back, but were cornered to a wall, they shudder when they saw his figure approaching.

He raised his chin, looking down on them, and said in a very low, cold, menacing voice, "If you two have unresolved issues, go to the fucking combat grounds. It serves its fucking purpose. DO NOT FUCKING DO IT IN THE HALLWAYS, OR…" he didn't finish his statement but motioned for his thumb raised, pointing to his neck, then moved from left to right. Telling them, they are going to be fucking dead.

'Or threat them really, no one would believe me', he internally chuckled, but somehow pitied the brothers as he glanced at them while Dr. Lewis was threatening them. It is comical, really.

Others, including him, were always afraid of the Bellator brothers, specifically the two older ones. Just with their presence alone when they are inside the office are intimidating. Although they may have not noticed it, as that was how they were raised up perhaps, sometimes others would change their mind in approaching them.

Almost everyone in the medical department really knows how the brothers grew with less parenting, their parents may have left this world early, and no one to guide them, but really, it's a good thing Dr. Lewis is there to ground them.

And so, the two brothers, scampered away from the hallways, running towards the combat grounds, Val who dragged Ember by his sleeves.

As soon as the two figures were gone, Dr. Lewis sighed, and clicked his tongue, he muttered under his breath while shuffling his hair, "They are just a handful."

Then, he walked away to wherever he was going. At that moment, his subordinate saw something in his expression.

It was a very gentle gaze, more like a gaze of a mother/father to their children, that no matter what wrongs they did, the parents would still forgive their children's mistakes, and accepts them for who they are.

The subordinate was wide-eyed, but then closed his eyes, and smiled. 'That's why I admire him', then followed suit on Dr. Lewis, staring on his back.

As soon as the two brothers arrived at the combat grounds, both were panting and caught up their breaths.

They scanned the surroundings, trainees scattered here and there, some were shouting while doing the drills, some with the weapons. Everyone was busy with what they were doing.

Val, who steadied his breathing, he crossed his arms, and looked sideways to Ember, he said, "We need to talk brother."

It earned a raise in eyebrow from Ember, but realized, not all 'talks' need to be words, there are other forms of communication.

He scoffed, and rested one of his hands on his hip, and looked back sideways to Val, and said, "Don't be smarty-pants with me, Val. I guess yeah, we need to talk."

Then he walked towards the combat grounds, looking for something, and Val followed suit, uncrossing his arms.

When both were in a ready fight stance, the other people from the combat grounds soon noticed the two redhead brothers. Onlookers are swarming the combat grounds, wanting to see the battle between two brothers.

Ember glanced from side to side, people slowly swarming surrounding them, he smirked at Val, and said, "Look Val, you want to talk really?"

Val, who also noticed the swarm of onlookers, he didn't faze and just replied to Ember, with all seriousness, "I am sure, brother."

'If this is how I could show you that I can protect myself, and that you and brother Exeo need not worry much about me.', was left unsaid by Val.

A gust of wind suddenly blew on the grounds, and after the dust had settled, both had engaged in hand-to-hand combat.

Blows by blows, evading, kicking from left to right, then being blown away by Ember with a kick, Val somersaulted backwards. Ember's stance was that of a proud king, while Val, was that of a challenger.

Val still could not surpass his brother's prowess in combat abilities. He needed to prove this to Ember, he knows Ember was being strict to him, and he understands that.

But he also needed to let Ember know that he can be trusted with his own decision. He charged again at him, with a feint kick, but instead, tried to jab him with his left hand. Little did he know, Ember knew and so, without breaking eye contact with Val, he simply blocked the attack from his right with his right hand.

Within a fraction of a second, Val knew it and with a quick decision, he kicked Ember in the gut, and swirled upwards. He raised his right foot to slam it to Ember, who was shocked for a second, but again was blocked with Ember's both hands, and push his leg outward, with a grunt.

Val spun backwards and steadied his footing, he charged again, and attacked Ember without rest from left to right, with his both hands, and legs.

To the audience, who were below Gold ranks, the swift movements can't be seen with a trained eye, but to those Gold ranks and above, they can clearly see the battle, the barrage of attacks from the youngest Bellator, and the defensive position of Ember.

However, although others might see that Val might be able to surpass Ember, some would disagree. The barrage of attacks from Val, has little to no movement from Ember, he was still in place. This means, Ember was just trying to wait for the right moment, and that moment was now.

Ember saw a split second delay from one of the barrage attacks by Valens and kicked him from his side.

Ack!

Val flew a few meters away, and coughed, holding his side, he got up back on his feet. He stared at Ember for a few seconds then raised his hand, "Ah, I give up! I can't win from you, brother!"

Ember just scoffed, and decided to end the battle. He walked towards Val, and just simply pat his head and walked further away. Val just followed suit, leaving the audience hanging to the confused battle they did.

What everyone didn't know was that, the two brothers, who were told to spar or release some tension on the combat grounds, the said person who told them menacingly, was looking at them a little bit far away. Though no one would notice, Val had first noticed Dr. Lewis, who was looking rather more menacing, when he saw the brothers engage in battle.

Dr. Lewis's face was that of 'Battle-on-combat-grounds-with-minimal-damage-or-you-both-are-dead' kind of face.

He saw Dr. Lewis observing them when he somersaulted away from Ember after he was kicked. He had to let Ember know, and so he had to give up.

Deep down, when Ember saw Val's signal, covering it up as him surrendering, his spine shudders at the thought of Dr. Lewis observing them, no scratch that. At them, currently observing them, which he couldn't see him. So, he had to keep up the facade, and follow along Val's surrender.

None from the low ranks except the Gold ranks who were at the closed training gym before had observed the two's previous battle. None had expected that the spar at that time turned into almost full-blown battle, and seems everyone had forgotten that one was Gold rank, and the other was ARM rank (though it was not disclosed to everyone).

Especially Dr. Lewis, when the so-called spar turned full-blown battle ended, he almost died of anger. The closed training gym had half of the ceiling with hole, all equipments were unusable as the two had been using them until it was no longer usable.

Thus, the confused faces of those lower ranks were not lessened, and got even more confused, when the Gold ranks who were there to observe the two again, seems to remember what happened to the closed training gym from before.

They shuddered at the thought of just those two monstrous brothers, but they were thankful they have ended it before any damage had been done, or else, they would have no grounds to train with.

It's safe to say that the two brothers had escaped another wrathful of curses from Dr. Lewis.
