Chapter 19: Second Mission Part I

Chapter 19: Second Mission Part I

Gen. Luis then looked at the team, "Now, about your next mission. It's another assassination mission."

"A country called Carem. Last time, you had your mission in Uryo country with the slave trade. However, this time, it would be different."

The general continued, "Our target is a member of the royal family. He's the cousin of the current king."

Riggs raised a brow in confusion, "Then why kill him? I mean, if we kill him, won't it cause chaos in the country? Also, if they know this, why ask for help where it can cause war between other countries? "

"Yes, you're right. But his cousin had made a deal with a dangerous group that is trying to take over the country. Most of the factions of the royal family sided with the target. That's why, our top brass is worried about this situation, so we want to end this quickly."

Ember frowned, "It will be very risky. This will be our first assassination of a member of the royal family. We've killed nobles before, but this is a whole other thing."

"Yes, it is," General Luis affirmed. "I'll let you know more when I receive the full report. You are free to go for now. You may now leave."

And so, they left Gen. Luis's office after finishing the briefing and returned to the dorms.

They arrived and Ember and Valens went to their room, while Bo, Exeo, and Riggs went to the living room, along with Fon.

Fon asked, "So what will happen to me next?"

Exeo answered, "Well, in a few days, I will train you on how to use your ability, if you already have one."

Fon shook his head as his answer and said, "Before I and my friend were captured before in that slave trade, we really never knew our abilities. We envied those children we see who can check their abilities. Also, just checking the ability in Uryo would be expensive and we don't have that kind of money."

Bo and Riggs were also listening to Fon.

Exeo nodded and said, "It's a pity that you had no idea what your ability is. Do you know what mana is?"

"No. I never heard about that. Are you going to explain to me?"

Exeo just nodded and explained, "Mana is the energy of every living being, it's all around us. Normal people can't feel or see it, but ability users can. And by using mana, people are able to use abilities. Your body contains mana but for now, you won't be able to use it."

"Can you see mana inside my body?"

"Yes, I can."

Fon nodded and said, "I see."

Exeo continued, "So if you want to learn how to use your ability, I have to teach you. Do you want to learn?"

Fon nodded, "I do."

"Then, let's go to the general's house then. There's a room there for you to practice."

The two went out of the dorm and decided to go to Gen. Luis's house.

This time, when the two went out, a few minutes later, it was General Luis who visited the quarters. He looked around, seeing that only Bo and Riggs were the only ones in the living room, he asked, "Where're the others?"

Bo answered, "Ember and Valens are resting, and Exeo and Fon went to your house."

Gen. Luis's eyes widen in shock. "Excuse me? They went...to my house?"

Bo just nodded silently while eating some snacks along with Riggs in the living room.

The general mentally facepalmed himself.

He was slightly holding back from his anger. Exeo has been like this ever since he joined the military. Even with Ember, he really doesn't know how to deal with the two older Bellators who really just do what they want, regardless if it's their superior or not.

'I can't believe that even the youngest, Valens, had followed Exeo's footsteps.'

He was thinking of what Val did about bringing Fon, a witness back to their headquarters.

He let out a deep sigh and decided to forget about what had happened. 'They're the only ones who will be able to save the country from the hands of the dangerous group anyway.'

Riggs and Bo looked at each other in confusion when the general sighed. Riggs answered, "Exeo said that you told them that there's room for Fon to practice, so they went there to start teaching him how to use his ability."

He was still in shock and shook his head, trying to process what he just heard.

He turned towards Riggs and Bo and said, "I see. Well then, I'm just here to inform you about the mission. Inform the rest that we'll have a meeting tomorrow morning."

Riggs and Bo nodded, and Gen. Luis left.

After a few hours of rest, the four men woke up the next day and decided to eat their breakfast first before starting to prepare for the mission.

They ate their breakfast and were back in the living room, talking about what they'll be doing. Exeo is their team leader, but since he is now responsible to train Fon, he is currently not included during the meeting with the team.

After breakfast, Ember was called to meet with Gen. Luis to over the full report about their mission. After several minutes of waiting, Ember went back to their quarters to inform the rest.

So, currently, Ember will be the one to decide and lead the mission. Ember said, "Alright. I think it's time to go over what our mission is. I have all the intel we need."

Bo raised a brow in confusion, "Isn't the briefing done before we went to the dorms last night?"

Ember shook his head. "No. The intel that the general gave us is just the basic details. He had told us that the target is a cousin of the current king, and he made a deal with a dangerous group."

Ember continued, "However, aside from taking out the target, we also have to investigate the group that he made a deal with. Our other objective is to stop the deal before they are able to carry out whatever they're going to do."

"But that sounds simple enough, isn't it?" Bo asked. "We can just sneak in, kill the target, and leave."

"Yes, you're right. However, the country has a massive army, so this won't be easy." Ember answered, "And that's why we have to be ready for anything. Any questions?"

Bo raised his hand and asked, "So, what do we know about the target?"

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Ember said, "Well, aside from what was mentioned yesterday, he's the second cousin of the current king. He is a nobleman who was given a lot of land by his uncle. Another intel is that, he is also a member of a secret society that is planning to overthrow the kingdom."

Riggs furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "Wait, you mean he made a deal but is also a member of it?"

"Yes," Ember replied, "There is more than that. Earlier, I said massive army, and when I say massive, we have to worry about the country's army of five hundred thousand men."

Riggs was dumbfounded and asked, "Wait, what?!"

Bo also raised his brows in confusion.

Ember nodded and said, "Yes, but, don't worry, we have a mission to only take out the target, and only investigate the secret society. We are not to engage them in a fight. However, when push comes to shove, we will retaliate but we just need to focus on our objectives first. Also, we can just sneak in to avoid any battle. I can come up with a plan with Bo on this."

Ember looked at Bo and said, "So, what do you have in mind?"

Bo answered, "Well since it's just a simple assassination, I think it's enough to take out the target with our special ability, right? Also, if worst comes to worst, Val would just use his ability to erase all of them."

Val was stupefied. 'Erase?' He thought but decided to just nod.

"That's true," Ember said and continued, "I think that's enough about the mission. Riggs, you will be on reconnaissance. You will scout the whole area, and also keep an eye out for the country's army. If you see any movement, you need to report to us right away."

Riggs nodded.

Ember looked at Valens, "Valens, you will be on backup. If we need your power to take out the target, then you would go in. However, if there's something wrong and we can't get out of this, then you would have to use it."

Valens gulped and nodded.

Once night came, they decided to travel to Carem during the night with their own military plane. The travel was silent but inside, all four of them were geared, and daggers were attached to all thighs of the four men. Since they wore the new combat uniform the general provided them, they also decided to wear the masks that came along with clothes and covered themselves in long black cloaks.

The military plane hovered a few miles away from their target's location. Normally, planes produce a loud noise, but the military plane they were using, is so quiet that no one will realize that it's just there.

The door opened and they just jumped off from the plane which was a few feet off the ground. Once they all landed on the ground, they quickly ran and went to were already hiding outside the target's premises.

Ember said, "Bo, I'll leave the rest to you. You are responsible for taking out the target. Be ready."

Bo nodded and said, "I am ready."

Ember said in a low voice, "Let's go."

The team snuck into the target's premises.

They reached a part of the premises where they saw the target walking alone in the garden.

Bo used his camouflage ability and blended in with his surroundings.

Ember motioned with his hand for Bo to take action.

Bo silently walked up to the target and before he could even speak, Bo used his ability and made an icicle spear come out of nowhere and stabbed the target.

The target groaned in pain and collapsed to the ground. When Bo saw this, he silently walked out and walked toward where the others were hiding.

A few minutes after the target collapsed, a guard appeared from nowhere. Ember, who is also camouflaged by Bo's ability, walked silently but quickly grabbed the guard's neck and choked him, knocking him unconscious.

They decided to just bring him along with them, just in case they need to interrogate him.

After a while, they arrived at an undisclosed location a few blocks away from the target's location. They locked the doors and windows of the house and barricaded them.

After that, they tied up the unconscious man.

Riggs had already checked the whole area and had already reported everything to the team, so they decided to rest for a while.

After a few minutes, Ember woke the unconscious man up by slapping the man's face left and right. He was groaning in pain when Ember woke him up. He was still groggy from being choked out.

Ember asked, "Are you awake now?"

The man nodded in his response.

Ember continued, "Good. I will ask you some questions, and if you lie to me, then, one by one, those fingers of yours will be gone."

He gazed down at the man who was kneeling in front of them and lifted a shiny dagger.

The man trembled and nodded furiously, not wanting to have his fingers cut off.

"Do you understand?"

The man nodded again.

"Tell me about the group that your master made a deal with."

The man said, "Well, I heard that it's a group of people who have an interest in power. They want to use that power to take over the country, but they need to get rid of the royal family first."

"What else?

The man was silent for a minute, trying to recall everything. After a minute, he said, " will kill the royal family and the rest of the nobles, and then the country will be ours."

Ember sighed and looked at Riggs, who was standing beside him.

Ember turned back to the man and said, "What is your plan for doing that?"

The man said, "They will help us in killing the royal family and once the people know that their king had died, they will take control of this country! They will lead the people of this country free of sins!"

He then laughed maniacally like being addicted to something.

Riggs and Valens' eyes widen in shock, hearing the target's plan.

Valens frowned upon hearing it and walked towards the man, he asked, "What do you exactly mean by free of sins? What's the name of the group you're dealing with?"

The man suddenly stopped laughing, stared at Val for a second then lowered his head. He didn't say anything.

Ember sighed and said. "We have to stop the deal before they can go through with it. And I think I know what to do."

He turned to the man again and asked, "Do you know where the meeting will happen?"

The man answered, "It's going to be on a mountain called The Seven Towers. We will meet there after we killed the king."

Ember nodded. "Thanks. And now, goodbye."

And with that, he decapitated the man's head with his sword. The head rolled away from them and stopped when it hit a wall.

"You know what to do next. Val." Ember said towards Val.

Val just nodded and lifted his palm, a black sphere formed. He gently laid the sphere on top of the dead body and soon disappeared.

Ember walked towards the head that rolled away and picked it up and threw it towards the black sphere. Then, the body was gone. All that was left was a pool of blood and some blood splatter on Ember's clothes.

The three of them went outside of the house and ran towards the car.

Ember asked Riggs, "Do you have an update about the country's army?"

Riggs nodded and answered, "Yes, there's a movement towards the main entrance of the city."

Val furrowed his brows in confusion and said, "Huh? What? What is happening there?"

Riggs replied, "That's not it. I've scouted the whole area and didn't find anyone."

Val looked at him with confusion. "What are you talking about?"

Riggs shook his head. "I don't know, but there's something strange. I mean, there are buildings lit with lights in the city, and yet, there's no one there."

Val sighed. "We were just there earlier and now there's none? What are we going to do then?"

This time, Ember was contemplating what Riggs had said. "Well, let's just drive there for now. We'll know once we are there."

And so, the car sped away and drove towards the exit of the city.

Riggs was using his ability to scout the area. However, the whole place seemed deserted, except for a few people. He didn't know what was happening.

Meanwhile, in the middle of the city, a group of people were standing outside a building.

The leader of the group said, "Our time has finally come. Everything is ready."

A man with a black fedora and wearing a black suit came out of the building and said, "Yes, it is. So, do you think you can handle this? I mean, there's a lot of people in there."

The leader nodded. "I don't think there will be any problems."

The man with a black fedora said, "That's good to hear. Now, before we go to the Seven Towers, do you think you can take care of that group who had caused a problem?"

The leader nodded. "Yes, I will. They won't be a problem."

"Good, I hope so. See you soon." The man with a black fedora said before walking towards his car.

The leader looked at the other members of the group. "Now, let's go."

And so, the group went towards the main entrance of the city.

Meanwhile, back at the exit of the city, Ember and his team had arrived at their car. They were ready to drive towards the Seven Towers, but they stopped when they heard a shout.

The shout was followed by an explosion. Ember looked at his companions and looked toward the direction of the explosion. He frowned deeply.

He turned back to his companions and said, "Get into the car. Quickly!"

They did as they were told and sped away toward the Seven Towers.

After a few minutes, they arrived at the Seven Towers and parked their car somewhere a little far from the entrance. They got out and silently walked towards the entrance.

They hid behind some stone pillars. Ember signalled for Bo to use his camouflage ability along with Val. Bo nodded and patted Val who was just beside him hiding behind one of the stone pillars.

Once the two men were camouflaged, Ember signalled for them to come out and slowly move toward the entrance.

They arrived at the entrance of the Seven Towers and stopped for a moment when they saw what was going on inside.

The area was like a very large open stadium, but only a few are inside. However, all of them were sitting, chatting in low voices.

Bo and Val silently walked around and saw a hallway. They walked towards it and noticed that at the end of the hallway, a door was being guarded by two soldiers. Bo and Val glanced at each other and nodded and walked towards it.

When they were almost near the door, suddenly the door opened and Val furrowed his brows when he saw a man walk out of that room.
