CHAPTER 146
290 AC
POV MC
While everyone was taking care of their wounded and resting, I was trying to block out Artio's endless questions. Since the moment she sensed I was no longer fighting, she wouldn't shut up. I think she told me everything she was up to last six months.
-Master, why Artio's mother can't talk? She only talks with one word: Follow, eat, stop, hunt... Why she talks like that? When Artio talks her, like Artio talks Big Brother Berus, she doesn't understand Artio.-
-You will understand that when you fully grow up. Because you are unique. Brother Berus will tell you everything so you should ask your every question to him.-
Then I heard Berus' pleading voice,
-Master, why are you doing this to me?-
After our talk was over, I looked around me. This Island was stripped bare there were hardly any trees left. So, my familiars had retreated into the mountain 5 km away from here. Poe and Erebus come back after turning small, but someone has to look after Artio, and as always, her babysitter is Berus. I had summoned Nin to listen into the King's war council.
...
One of the Stormlands Lords said,
"My King, we should have pressed on. We could have taken the second keep by now, and the war would be almost ever."
Lord Stark said,
"They have raised the bridge that connects to the Great Keep. How do you expect to reach them? We had to end the attack, so we wouldn't lose men needlessly."
...
-Poe, Erebus, take your Murders and find a different entrance to the Great Keep. I don't think they would imprison themselves there without a way out.-
Poe and Erebus took off, and 120 crows and ravens took off around the army too. They started circling all over the Pyke Castle, and they didn't have any way out. The only other way in was one ship pier at the bottom of Sea Tower; they had already destroyed the wooden stairs that go to the pier.

Lord Royce said,
"There is 5 meters distance between the two parts of the risen bridge. We could try creating a robe bridge."
Tywin scoffed at the idea and didn't say anything else. Lord Royce, with an angry voice, said,
"What is so funny, Lord Tywin?"
"Do you think they are going to just let you create a bridge? Even if they did, all they had to do would be to throw another boulder while our men started passing, and we would lose tens, mayhaps hundred men for no reason."
Another Vale Lord said,
"Can't we order the Druid to help us? He always creates a big monolith; he must be able to control stone too."
Like, I am going to help you assholes. This time it was King's time to scoff. Robert said,
"He wouldn't help us if we were drowning. The only reason he helped us was to show the might of the Old Gods, and didn't you see his magic didn't affect the castle? He was only able to open the gate using the mechanism. Ned, do you really not know who he is?"
Of course, I wouldn't help you if there wasn't something in it for me. Lord Stark said with a stern voice,
"My King, I don't think he would announce who he is left and right."
It was a nice diversion from Lord Stark; if the King ask more directly, he has no chance but to lie.
...
After a while, Poe came to me and told me what had happened at Pyke Castle, but there weren't many things of importance. For the next two weeks, we couldn't make any progress. We had many skirmishes, but they would always drop a giant rock and break our assault. I was sending Poe and Erebus out for scouting every day, and we couldn't get any useful information. But today's information was different; Erebus had seen a hole they used to dump trash from the Kitchen's small Island. The hole was only 1 meter big, and it was 60 meters above the ground.
The Kitchen was on its own Island that was connected to the Great Keep with an archway. A plan started to form in my head. Even if we couldn't reach the bridge mechanism on the Great Keep, at worst, If we take the Kitchen island, we could burn it and starve them.
...
I told about my plan to Lord Stark, and he was in deep thought.
"It is a bold and reckless plan, but it could work if you can climb all the way there and sneak into the Great Keep and lower the bridge...
He was thinking deeply, and he reached the same conclusion as me,
"At worst, we could burn their supplies. How many men do you need?"
"It would bring too much attention if we are more than a few; I would rather only bring Harlik and Kegan with me."
"You will be too few. Can you open the gates with only two men?"
"I can if I could use my spells more freely. If I bring more people, it would be detrimental to me. I can't use my powers."
"While we are on the topic, why couldn't you blow the gate open?"
"There were powerful protection wards on these walls and gates; someone more powerful than me created them. I can create wards, but they would only last 1 hour. But if I sacrificed a human one day at most. But those wards were ancient, and they were starting to weaken. At their peak, they must be more powerful than this."
"Are you saying the stories about the age of heroes were true?"
"I think so."
I took a deep breath and said,
"My lord, I am going to tell you something I never told anyone before. You might think I am using God's name when I say Old Gods sent me, but it is not. You might even think I am crazy, but here it goes. A god bestowed this power on me directly. I do not know if it was an Old God, but it was definitely a god. That God said the balance of this world was off, and I was sent here to restore balance. That is all I know."
For a while, Lord Stark just looked at me without saying anything, then he drank his cup in one go and released a deep breath. He opened his mouth to say something but gave up and poured himself a new cup and drank it all at once. After collecting his thoughts, he said,
"I don't know if what you say is true, but one thing is for sure, you are not an ordinary boy. You are so talented that it is unnatural. I know you can kill thousands or heal the land and its people with your power. I do not know if you are a gift to the North or a curse, but I want you to know that if you try to hurt the people of the North, I will stand against you with all my power."
"I always tell you, my lord. This land is my home; I want to make the North the greatest realm. I don't know what God meant when he said out of balance, but until I find my real reason, I will keep fighting for the North."
