Chapter 81

Chapter 81

Lin Fan urgently grabbed Qin Feng's shoulder. His muscles were firm, making it difficult to hold on, and she quickly slipped off. Though her movements weren't large, Lin Fan couldn't bear it and let out a sound, quickly covering her mouth upon realizing it. Qin Feng leaned down, pulled her hand away, and kissed her chin, "The house is well insulated... no one can hear."

Lin Fan looked up at him. He was smiling, touching her face, "Feeling good?"

Suddenly, he quickened his pace, causing Lin Fan to feel a tingling sensation on her scalp, making her let out a soft cry. Qin Feng rubbed the top of her head, held her, changed positions, and sat up with Lin Fan in his arms.

The second time went smoother than the first. When it ended, Qin Feng paused. He pulled Lin Fan in for a long, lingering kiss. After the kiss ended, he let go of Lin Fan and withdrew.

"Want to take a bath?"

Lin Fan buried her face in his neck. Doing this kind of thing at home in broad daylight was something she couldn't accept; it was too embarrassing. Qin Feng kissed her ear, his fingers trailing over Lin Fan's neck, "Lin Fan."

His voice was lazy and husky, full of meaning, "What's there to be shy about? It's just you and me here."

Lin Fan refused to lift her head. Qin Feng then carried her off the bed and into the bathroom, "Shower or bath?"

Lin Fan quickly made her choice, jumping out of Qin Feng's arms and turning her back to him, "Shower."

Qin Feng chuckled, saying nothing more. He turned on the water and took a quick rinse, "You shower. Call me if you need anything."

He was secretly worried about Lin Fan having a relapse. Lin Fan was so embarrassed that her skin turned red; she was very fair-skinned.

"Okay."

Qin Feng left the door slightly ajar, just in case.

Only then did Lin Fan hold onto the wall, panting. Her legs were weak, but she didn't dare say anything while Qin Feng was there. Liquid trickled down her legs; her head was about to explode—that was Qin Feng's stuff.

She quickly washed it off, wrapped herself in a big towel, and wiped the fog off the mirror above the sink. She checked her neck—the kiss marks from before had faded. This time, Qin Feng hadn't left any obvious marks. Her clothes were outside; wrapped in a towel, she felt incredibly awkward.

She opened the door a crack and peeked out. The room was brightly lit, sunlight streaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. No one was there. Lin Fan's clothes were thrown in a corner of the bed, probably picked up by Qin Feng earlier. They had tossed their clothes around while doing it. Lin Fan didn't want to pick up the clothes from the floor and wear them again. After hesitating for a few seconds, she quietly opened the door. As she did, it was pushed open from the outside, nearly hitting her nose. She quickly stepped back and saw Qin Feng.

He was already dressed and stared at Lin Fan for a few seconds before raising his hand, "Just wanted to see if you were done. If you are, let's go eat."

Lin Fan was wrapped in a white towel, her black, slightly curly hair draped over her shoulders. Water droplets rolled down her slender neck and into the towel. Qin Feng stepped back; if he kept looking, they wouldn't be able to leave the house today.

"Change your clothes and come eat."

Lin Fan dashed back to her room to change. The place where she came into contact with fabric was burning; Qin Feng was really bad. Men couldn't be trusted after all.

Lin Fan changed into casual sportswear, which was loose and comfortable. When she came out, she saw Qin Feng already eating. She walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down. There was oatmeal porridge and bread. Lin Fan buried her head in the porridge.

"I'm going to Ying County this afternoon. I'll be gone for two or three days. Will you be okay alone at home?"

Lin Fan swallowed her porridge and looked up at Qin Feng, "Can I go with you?"

"No."

Lin Fan lowered her eyelids, continued to bury her head in her porridge, and didn't speak, looking aggrieved.

"Why are you going to Ying County?" Qin Feng felt bad seeing her like this.

"It's close to my home. Last time, I forgot to bring my dad's ashes back. They're still in the old building on Zhongming Road."

Last time, in a hurry, Lin Fan did forget about that.

"What about going later?"

"School will start, and I won't have time. Senior year is very demanding."

"I can't take you to your home."

"It's okay. I'll take the bus home. There's a bus from Ying County to my place."

Seeing her so eager, Qin Feng raised an eyebrow, "Are you hiding something from me?"

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Lin Fan quickly shook her head, "No."

"What kind of dreams have you had recently?"

Lin Fan shook her head, "Really, nothing. I just want to go back once. How can you guess so much..." Her voice trailed off as she buried her head in her porridge, "Don't overthink it."

Qin Feng wanted to knock her on the head but couldn't bear it when he saw Lin Fan's face. He snorted.

Lin Fan wore sportswear, which was loose and comfortable. They first went to Zhongming Road to get her father's ashes. Qin Feng said, "Liu Piaopiao has been charged with fraud, and the inheritance lawsuit will follow. The first trial will probably be in October."

Lin Fan wasn't interested in the inheritance. Though it was money, it was tainted with a lot of blood. She sighed, "How much money is it?"

Qin Feng reported a number, and Lin Fan was shocked, "My dad was that rich?"

Qin Feng turned onto the main road, "Did you think it was just a few hundred bucks?"

Lin Fan asked, "Is the lawsuit troublesome?"

"I've hired a lawyer." Qin Feng tugged at his tie. He particularly disliked wearing a uniform with a tie; it was very uncomfortable. "You don't need to worry, just wait for the result."

Lin Fan looked at Qin Feng's profile and couldn't help but laugh.

"What are you laughing at?"

Lin Fan didn't answer, still pursing her lips and smiling.

"Yeah?" Qin Feng glanced at Lin Fan.

Lin Fan stopped laughing, "Nothing."

"If nothing, then why are you laughing?" Qin Feng teased her.

Lin Fan was at a loss for words, "Are you speaking tongue twisters?"

Qin Feng laughed deeply, tapping his finger on the steering wheel, clearly in a good mood.

Lin Fan felt that if this continued, she would get dizzy; she could never out-talk Qin Feng.

"How's that girl from the underground now?"

Talking about the case, Qin Feng turned serious, his smile disappearing, "She's been detained for ten days and is now receiving treatment in the hospital."

"Why did that person lock her up? How did they know each other?"

"They didn't." Qin Feng said, "It was a random act. There was no specific target. That night, the victim was working late and was kidnapped on her way home."

"That's really—" Lin Fan couldn't find the right word, "Worse than an animal!"

Qin Feng made no comment.

"Hope that girl is okay and can face life bravely afterward."

"Hope so."

Being imprisoned and tied up, experiencing that kind of thing, was terrible for her. But fortunately, someone discovered it in time.

"Why didn't we see the underground passage in that cellar? How did the sound come through the underground passage?"

"You didn't see it clearly; it was too rushed that night. There was a place connected to the sewer. He was afraid of being discovered, so he blocked it. Due to his clumsy methods, it wasn't sealed properly, and the sound insulation was poor. Thanks to that sewer, the victim was saved."

The whole thing was chilling. If Lin Fan hadn't been bored and browsing Weibo, and if Qin Feng hadn't gone to inspect the scene on a whim, who knows how long she would have been imprisoned and when she would have been freed.

Lin Fan exhaled, then turned to Qin Feng, "I hope you can take a vacation every day."

"Yeah?"

"No crime, everyone doing their job, living in harmony."

"Human desires are endless. Where there are people, there is crime. An ideal state almost doesn't exist. I also hope the crime rate can drop so low that we become unemployed."

Lin Fan liked that no matter what opinion she expressed, Qin Feng would always talk with her. He didn't find her childish, nor did he look down on her.

"Yeah."

They took the urn from Zhongming Road. Lin Fan glanced at the dilapidated neighborhood. Her journey began here. Whether good or bad, it was here that she started seeing ghosts and getting involved in cases. She met Qin Feng and is now with him.

Seeing her come over, Qin Feng stubbed out his cigarette and walked over to help her hold the urn. "Got everything?"

Lin Fan nodded, "Yes."

Qin Feng placed the urn in the trunk and got into the car. "Let's go."

He turned the car around and drove off. Lin Fan looked back at the old building. Suddenly, she noticed that the fifth-floor window of the second building was pitch black, like thick fog. She rubbed her eyes, but the car had already driven away.

What was that?

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing."

Maybe she was seeing things. Lin Fan withdrew her gaze and leaned back in the seat. "I'm a bit sleepy."

Qin Feng had gotten up too early in the morning and had also dragged her out of bed, so Lin Fan hadn't slept well. Qin Feng took off his jacket and handed it to her. "Don't catch a cold. Get some sleep."

"Why are you going to Ying County?"

"Following up on a trafficking case. The Ying County police have some leads."

Lin Fan took the jacket and covered herself with it. Qin Feng's clothes smelled of smoke, but the jacket was big and covered her well.

"Does that mean they might catch those people?"

"Yes."

"Hurry and catch them. Uncle Dong Hui's death won't be in vain. I hope they can find his son. If he knows in the afterlife, he can rest in peace."

Qin Feng's eyes darkened, but he didn't respond to Lin Fan's words.

Taking Lin Fan along on a mission was indeed against the rules. If it weren't for the fact that the case involved Lin Fan from the start, he wouldn't have been able to bring her. The incident of Dong Hui's corpse disappearing was quite shocking, but such things are usually kept under wraps to avoid causing panic. The fact that Lin Fan could see ghosts was something Qin Feng couldn't hide, but he didn't explain it either.

In a country with thousands of years of history, the ancestors had always believed in such things. It's not that rare to find people who can see unusual things. Believers will believe, while skeptics have their own reasons. Though not openly acknowledged, higher-ups tacitly approved of Qin Feng bringing Lin Fan on cases.

Four people went to Ying County in total. They switched to another car. Qin Feng, Lin Fan, Xiao Wang, and Zheng Wei.

Xiao Wang got into the car and was delighted to see Lin Fan. "Comrade Lin!"

Lin Fan smiled and greeted him. Xiao Wang said, "I heard you were the first to find the woman in the cellar? Impressive. You could join the police academy with skills like yours. Your detective radar is sharp. You'll be the next great detective, China's Sherlock Holmes, or Conan—"

Qin Feng: "Shut up."

Lin Fan smiled and looked away, falling asleep in the passenger seat. When she woke up, she saw Qin Feng's enlarged face. She was still groggy. Qin Feng touched her face, "We're here."

Lin Fan mumbled, her eyes unfocused, staring blankly ahead.

"I have a meeting to attend. Will you wait in the car?"

Lin Fan rubbed her face, finally coming to her senses. "I'll take the bus back."

Seeing her dazed look, Qin Feng pinched her cheek. "Wait until after we eat. I'll take you to the bus station."

Lin Fan, seeing Qin Feng so close, suddenly hugged him. With her face buried in his clothes, Lin Fan's thoughts gradually returned. "Qin Feng."

Her voice was low, soft, and enticing.

"Yes?" Qin Feng stroked her hair. "I'll come to find you after I'm done. Be safe and call me if anything happens."

"Qin Feng." She called again.

Qin Feng pulled her out of his embrace, looked around, and seeing no one nearby, leaned down and kissed her intensely. It was an unprecedentedly passionate kiss. After a long moment, he ended the kiss, his thumb brushing Lin Fan's lips, gazing at her. "Listen carefully. No taking risks. Discuss everything with me first."
