Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Ouyang Yu.

Qin Feng walked out of the interrogation room. "Go meet with Ouyang Yu."

"Is Liu Ge the murderer?"

"No direct evidence, couldn't conclude from interrogation, had to let him go."

Ouyang Yu had investments in numerous projects and was quite renowned in Jiangcheng. Qin Feng didn't meet Ouyang Yu until 4:30 in the afternoon. Guided by his secretary, Qin Feng entered Ouyang Yu's office. Ouyang Yu raised his head from behind his desk. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, a suit, and stood up.

The room was extremely cold. Qin Feng heard his assistant mutter behind him, "Really cold."

"Qin Feng." Qin Feng presented his credentials. "Mr. Ouyang."

"Pleasure."

Qin Feng said, "We're here about the murder case of Su Ran."

"Su Ran?" He raised an eyebrow.

Qin Feng handed over a photo. "She was killed on June 6th."

Ouyang Yu glanced at it. "Met her once, not familiar."

Qin Feng took out a business card. "Is this yours?"

Ouyang Yu nodded, gesturing to the seat opposite him. "Please, sit."

Qin Feng sat down. "Between 11:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on June 6th, what were you doing?"

Ouyang Yu seemed like a finely crafted jade sculpture, excessively refined. He thought for a moment. "At home."

Qin Feng surveyed the entire office. It was rare to see a place so clean, devoid of any odor.

"Doing what?"

"Making love."

Qin Feng raised an eyebrow. "With whom?"

"Sun Yu." Ouyang Yu asked, "Captain Qin, any other questions?"

"Did you see Su Ran on June 6th?"

"No, she called me, seeking pleasure. I declined."

Obtaining Ouyang Yu's business card wasn't difficult. He was a figure in the business world, while Su Ran was a celebrity. What could one business card prove?

Finally obtaining Ouyang Yu's address, Qin Feng and Xiao Wang left the icy office. Stepping out, Qin Feng loosened his tie, his face grim as he briskly entered the elevator.

"These celebrities may seem glamorous, but behind the scenes, it's just a lot of sordid affairs."

Qin Feng tore off a piece of paper with the address written on it and handed it to Xiao Wang. "Go check the surveillance."

Su Ran's call records did indeed show Ouyang Yu.

Qin Feng went back and reviewed all the surveillance footage at the luxurious hotel, from the front parking lot to the elevator, every floor. The only suspicious thing was a woman wearing a hooded sweatshirt entering the hotel around one o'clock. Her hat was pulled low, obscuring her face.

She took the elevator to the third floor but then entered the staircase.

Could the murderer be a woman?

Access to the elevators in this hotel required a key card, but accessing the stairwell from the floors required nothing.

She exited the hotel around 2 a.m. Qin Feng captured a screenshot of her, then stood up and walked out, bumping into Dr. Liu."Captain Qin?"

Qin Feng skirted past hurriedly as he headed outside. "Got a lead, I need to go back to the hotel."

"You don't want your girlfriend anymore?" Dr. Liu shouted after him, but Qin Feng's long legs carried him away quickly. "Don't talk nonsense, Xiao Lin, you watch here, I'll be back soon."

Dr. Liu opened his mouth to say something, "Hey, it's already nine o'clock."

Lin Fan hadn't seen the little ghost all day, staying in the forensic office writing papers. When Dr. Liu returned, she turned her head. "Is Captain Qin still busy?"

"Yeah, why don't you come to my place tonight? My aunt's at home."

Lin Fan packed up her papers and put them in her bag. "I'll go home. If I haven't seen that little ghost all day, he probably won't show up."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure." Lin Fan smiled, patting her backpack. "I have a talisman, given to me by Captain Qin yesterday."

"Then let me walk you home."

"No need, I'll take the bus."

The little ghost did indeed disappear. Lin Fan wondered if Su Ran's soul was still around. Lin Fan pinched her brow, feeling that this matter was a bit complicated. How could a soul appear and then disappear? The case hadn't been solved yet. Could it have been eaten by that little ghost?

Finally, the bus she was waiting for arrived. Lin Fan got on. Outside the window, neon lights flashed. What kind of person was the heart-digger? A man or a woman? How did they manage to leave no clues?

The bus stopped, someone got on, a man walked straight over and sat next to her. A chill ran down Lin Fan's spine. She hugged her backpack tightly and glanced back. The man was wearing a dress shirt and a suit, sitting upright.

He looked to be in his forties. Lin Fan withdrew her gaze and continued to look out the window.

The bus wasn't crowded, music played softly. Lin Fan rested her chin on the front seat. What did that little ghost want by chasing her? What did he want? Her fingers touched the hard dagger in her bag, then she put it back. The little ghost was afraid of bad people too. What was she afraid of with the dagger in her bag?

The bus stopped at each station, but the person next to her didn't move. Finally, they arrived at her residential area. Lin Fan got off the bus and said to the person next to her, "Excuse me, I've arrived."

The man looked up with a very eerie gaze, assessing Lin Fan, then moved aside.

Lin Fan walked out towards the exit. A woman looked back, frowned, "Miss, who were you talking to just now?"

Lin Fan was taken aback by the question. "What?"

The woman looked back again and said to Lin Fan, "There was no one sitting next to you. Who were you talking to?"

The doors were about to close. Lin Fan didn't have time to look back, so she quickly jumped off the bus.

The bus started and drove away. Lin Fan had just thought of looking back when she caught the gaze of the man in the back row, staring at her. Blood was flowing from his eyes. Lin Fan turned around and walked away.

Would this chaos with ghosts ever end?

Back home, the girl next door was sitting in the living room. "Xiao Lin."

Lin Fan put her keys down. "What's up? Do you need anything?"

"Come over."

Lin Fan went over and sat down, looking at her. "What's wrong?"

"I'm getting a divorce from him," the girl said. "I want to go to Guangzhou to find my cousin. He has a company there, so I want to terminate the lease for this place."

Lin Fan was a bit confused. She calculated the time and realized the girl had been living here for over a month.

"I'll refund you the rent for this month on a daily basis."

"How much is the rent for the whole place?"

"Two thousand, but you have to sign for a year."

Lin Fan could stay at No. 16 Middle School. There was no need for her to spend this unjustified money. She felt a little lost for a moment.

"When do you want me to move out?"

"As soon as possible. Look for a house nearby."

Lin Fan nodded. "I understand."

At eleven o'clock, Qin Feng called, straightforwardly asking, "Are you home?"

Lin Fan had just finished showering, water dripping from her hand. "That little ghost didn't show up today, maybe he's scared."

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Call me if you need anything."

"Thanks."

Qin Feng hung up the phone, listening to the dial tone, Lin Fan bit her lip.

The next day Lin Fan went to work again, and Qin Feng didn't call again.

She had a two-day weekend, so she hurriedly went to look for a house. Short-term rentals were hard to come by. After a fruitless morning of searching, she went to a small shop for rice noodles at noon when her phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Lin Fan swallowed her noodles and answered, "Big Brother Qin."

"Where are you? Are you busy?"

"I'm eating out."

"Address?"

Lin Fan gave him the address, and Qin Feng hung up. She took a sip of soup, wondering why Qin Feng was calling.

Qin Feng wasn't far away, and Lin Fan hadn't finished her bowl of rice noodles when he arrived. He wasn't wearing a police uniform, just a black t-shirt and faded jeans. Several female students who were eating looked at him curiously.

He pulled out a chair and sat down in front of Lin Fan. She looked at his face, he hadn't shaved. His face was cold and hard, with sharp eyes.

"Have you eaten?"

Qin Feng said to the boss, "A bowl of noodles." Then he turned his gaze to Lin Fan. "That ghost didn't bother you anymore?"

Lin Fan shook her head. "No."

"Everything okay lately?"

Again, Lin Fan shook her head. "Nothing."

"I heard you're looking for a house?"

Lin Fan rolled her eyes. She wondered who had such a big mouth to spread the news to Qin Feng. She got up and helped Qin Feng fetch a bottle of mineral water, handing it to him.

"The house I used to live in, the landlord got divorced and went to Guangzhou."

Qin Feng drank half the bottle of water, then put it down. "What kind of house are you looking for?"

"Just somewhere to live. No. 16 Middle School has dormitories, so I'll stay at school after this period."

The noodles were quickly served, and Qin Feng buried his head in eating. After half a bowl, he looked up. "You can live at my place. I'm rarely home, so I won't disturb your studies."

Lin Fan was shocked. "Huh?"

Qin Feng wiped his mouth with a tissue and put down his chopsticks. "It's hard to find a short-term rental. If you don't like my place, I'll help you find another one."

"No, no, your place is fine, it's just too much trouble."

"The house is empty anyway." Qin Feng took out a bunch of keys and took one off, placing it in front of Lin Fan. "Need help moving?"

This efficient manner left Lin Fan dumbfounded.

"I don't have much stuff, it's okay."

Qin Feng picked up his chopsticks and continued eating noodles, his voice low and mellow. "No need to be polite to me."

"Thank you."

Qin Feng didn't say much more. After finishing his meal, his phone rang. He answered it.

"They found a human leg at the Dongyuan garbage dump. The local police have secured the scene, suspected homicide."

"Did you inform Dr. Liu?"

"Dr. Liu and I are on our way."

"I'll be there soon."

After hanging up, Qin Feng finished his water, took out his wallet to pay.

Lin Fan hurriedly gave the boss the change, Qin Feng glanced at her, smiling slightly. "There's a case, I have to go."

With that, he got up and left.

Lin Fan grabbed her bag and followed, Qin Feng got into the car and turned to look at Lin Fan. "Do you want to go see the scene? It's a dismemberment case, probably not a pretty sight."

"Maybe I can help."

"Seatbelt." Qin Feng reminded her, starting the engine. "The school matters are almost done. I'll get your documents from you later."

"Thank you."

Qin Feng chuckled, gripping the steering wheel. "No need to thank me."

The bandage around Lin Fan's neck was gone, leaving only faint marks.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the Dongyuan garbage dump, a large pit. Originally, there was a crematorium built on top, but it was moved to the north, and all the garbage was piled up here.

Under the bright sun, not far away, police lights were flashing, and the scene had already been cordoned off.

Lin Fan threw her bag into the car and closed the door before catching up to Qin Feng. The smell here was too strong, and she kept pinching her nose. Xiao Wang came up to them, saw Lin Fan, and made a sound of surprise, but said nothing more. He said to Qin Feng, "We found a leg and an arm. The first person to find the leg was an elderly scavenger living nearby."

Qin Feng put on gloves and walked quickly to the center of the scene.
