Chapter 69

Chapter 69

A brief moment of silence ensued. Lin Fan threw the vegetables straight at Ouyang Yu's face. Ouyang Yu raised his hand to catch the bag, but it burst open, and eggs and potatoes rolled out, leaving marks on his pure black suit. Lin Fan clenched her fist tightly, gritting her teeth, "Just try and touch him!"

"Do you even know who you are?" Ouyang Yu frowned, his gaze cold.

"I'm Lin Fan, and he's my man." Lin Fan took a few steps back, making sure she was at a safe distance, "Do you know what the penalty for threatening someone is? Three to five years in prison. Mr. Ouyang, you better watch yourself."

She turned and ran, too fast. Ouyang Yu was stunned for a moment before he snapped back to reality. The driver quickly came over and handed Ouyang Yu a handkerchief, "Sir, should we bring her back?"

Ouyang Yu wiped the dust off his clothes, his eyes darkened as he stared in the direction Lin Fan had disappeared, only looking away after a long while, "Let's go back."

He threw the handkerchief into the trash can, loosened his shirt collar, and raised his chin to reveal his fair neck. The plan had to change; Lin Fan was too unpredictable, and her fate had altered again.

What on earth was going on?

After Lin Fan got home, she regretted it. She shouldn't have thrown vegetables at him; what was she going to eat for dinner? What did Ouyang Yu mean by what he said? Who cares, at least she was still alive. He was just talking nonsense. Lin Fan cleared out the expired food from the fridge, and after cleaning the house, it was already six in the evening. She called Qin Feng, but he didn't answer.

Lin Fan sent a message, "Bring some vegetables back."

Within a few minutes, Qin Feng called back, and Lin Fan quickly answered, "Brother Qin."

"Change your clothes and come downstairs."

Lin Fan was stunned, "What's up?"

"My parents are inviting us to dinner. We're going to eat there, no need to cook."

"Where are you now?"

"At your door."

Lin Fan quickly changed clothes, washed her face, and checked herself in the mirror to make sure everything was fine before rushing out. At the entrance of the community, she saw Qin Feng's car, went over, and opened the door. Qin Feng glanced at her, "Wearing so little, aren't you cold?"

Lin Fan shook her head, pulled over the seatbelt, and pursed her lips, thinking about what happened in the afternoon, "Brother Qin."

"Hmm?" Qin Feng started the engine and drove off. "What is it?"

"I saw Ouyang Yu when I came back just now."

Qin Feng turned his head, made a turn onto the main road, "What was he doing?"

"I don't know what he meant." Lin Fan thought about it and decided to tell Qin Feng. They were a couple, and who was Ouyang Yu anyway? She had only lived in Ouyang Yu's house for a while, "He threatened me."

Qin Feng's gaze darkened, "What did he say?"

"I told him I was with you, and he said he would come after you."

Qin Feng sneered, "Let him try." After a pause, he continued, "Did you know him before?"

Lin Fan shook her head, "I only met him once when I rented the house. He seemed a bit off, talking in riddles that I didn't understand. You know about the few times I saw him afterward. That's it, no other connections. I don't know what he wants or what he's planning." Lin Fan touched her chin, deep in thought. "I can't figure it out."

In front of them, the traffic light turned red. Qin Feng stopped the car and leaned over to kiss Lin Fan on the forehead, "If you can't figure it out, don't think about it. I'll handle Ouyang Yu."

Lin Fan was so lost in thought that she found herself in Qin Feng's arms when she looked up, eyes wide, blushing, "Qin—Qin Feng."

Qin Feng let go of her, chuckled, and started the car again, "You're starting school soon, right?"

Lin Fan, her attention diverted, nodded, "Yeah, soon."

"Don't go to work for now, stay home and review your lessons."

Lin Fan couldn't think of a reason to argue. Going to work was just a way to kill time and earn a bit of money, which was actually paid by Qin Feng's father. She felt embarrassed to stay at the company, so she nodded, "Alright."

After another ten minutes of driving, Lin Fan asked, "Do we need to buy anything for your parents?"

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"What do you want to buy?"

"Let me think."

She really started to ponder. Qin Feng drove into the underground parking lot of his parents' community, and Lin Fan still hadn't come up with anything. Qin Feng got out of the car first, opened the back door, and took out some things, "It's my mom's birthday today. You can hold the flowers."

Lin Fan was handed a bouquet of flowers, "I didn't buy anything."

"I bought it for you." Qin Feng carried a cake and a gift bag, gesturing for Lin Fan to go ahead, "Press the elevator button."

Lin Fan ran to the elevator and pressed the button, with Qin Feng following closely behind. Once inside the elevator, Lin Fan started to feel nervous, quietly taking deep breaths. Qin Feng placed his hand on her head, "Don't be scared."

Lin Fan felt the pressure and looked up, "I'm not scared."

Stubborn as always, Qin Feng didn't expose her. "They both like you very much."

Lin Fan lowered her head, smiling slightly, "Oh."

Finally, they arrived. Qin Feng knocked on the door, and Lin Fan looked around. Qin Feng's parents' place wasn't exactly a mansion, just two apartments per floor in an old building.

Soon, the door opened, and Lin Fan first saw a gentle-looking, beautiful lady.

"This must be Xiao Lin, right?"

Lin Fan quickly handed over the flowers, "Hello, Auntie, happy birthday."

Qin's mother smiled happily, took the flowers, and led Lin Fan inside, "The meal is ready."

Qin Feng entered and put the items down. Qin's mother said, "Go check on your dad; the soup is almost ready."

Lin Fan looked back at Qin Feng, who went into the kitchen. The house wasn't big, but it was well-decorated and very cozy. Qin's mother led Lin Fan to the sofa and sat down. She smelled the flowers, "These flowers are really beautiful."

"Brother Qin picked them." Lin Fan didn't dare take credit and quickly mentioned Qin Feng.

"That boy." Qin's mother put the flowers down and smiled at Lin Fan, "He hasn't been bullying you, has he?"

Lin Fan quickly shook her head, blushing, "Brother Qin is very nice."

"Are you still in school this year? What grade?" Actually, Lin Fan looked even younger than her actual age. She was beautiful but seemed too young. Qin's mother thought to herself, Qin Feng, you rascal, picking flowers so ruthlessly!

"I'm in my third year of high school. I got delayed this year because of some issues; otherwise, I'd be a freshman in college."

Qin's mother liked the young girl. The more she looked at Lin Fan, the more she found her adorable. She really couldn't understand what this lovely girl saw in Qin Feng, who was rugged and not refined at all.

"You look so cute. I always wanted a daughter. Who knew I'd end up with such a naughty monkey? He was always so serious as a child, never saw him being cute."

Lin Fan: "..." She really couldn't imagine what Qin Feng looked like being cute.

"How's living at his place?"

"It's fine, really fine."

"Don't be polite with Auntie. He often has to go on-site for work and can be away for days. If it's inconvenient for you at his place, you can move here."

Lin Fan was startled and quickly shook her head, "It's fine now. Brother Qin's place is very good."

"Don't worry about troubling me. I'm home alone most of the time. If you come over, I'd just have an extra daughter—"

Qin Feng came out of the kitchen, "Stop trying to steal her from me. Let's eat."

Qin's mother let go of Lin Fan, feeling an urge to hit Qin Feng. She only regretted not having a daughter back then, a well-behaved daughter like Lin Fan, which would have made her so happy.

Lin Fan was almost stuffed to death during the meal. The dishes in front of her never stopped coming. Qin's mother kept using public chopsticks to put food on her plate, afraid she might be hungry. In the end, Qin Feng had to take some of the food from Lin Fan's plate to stop his mother.

Qin's mother finally stopped and said, "You two stay here for a few days, no rush to leave."

"Maybe in a while, work has been busy lately."

"You focus on your work; let Xiao Lin come over."

Qin Feng lifted his eyelids to look at his mother, "..."

Is that really appropriate? You don't usually try to steal someone's girl so openly!

Qin's mother failed to steal Lin Fan. When they were about to leave, she packed a lot of candy and snacks for Lin Fan. Qin Feng carried the stuff in one hand and held Lin Fan with the other as they walked out. He turned back, "Don't see us off; we'll come back in a couple of days."

Qin's mother: "It doesn't matter if you come back or not, just let Xiao Lin come back—"

Qin Feng: "..."

In the car, Lin Fan burped, "Your mom is really beautiful."

Qin Feng put the stuff away, opened the driver's door, and got in. He took out a box of digestive tablets and handed them to Lin Fan, "If you can't eat anymore, don't force yourself. There's nothing wrong with refusing."

Lin Fan chewed on the digestive tablets, "But they're your parents."

"It doesn't matter who it is. Reasonable refusal isn't impolite."

Lin Fan nodded. Qin Feng smoothed her hair, his fingers resting on her cheek, "Whatever it is, just say it. Don't keep everything to yourself. If you don't say anything, others won't know, and they won't care either."

His hand was warm, and Lin Fan's heart started to race. "Okay."

Qin Feng withdrew his hand. "Let's go home."

Lin Fan nodded, her heart still fluttering. Qin Feng started the car and began to back out, but Lin Fan's mind was a complete blank. She could only hear her own heartbeat, loud and thunderous. Suddenly, the car stopped, and her hand was grasped. "Lin Fan?"

Lin Fan breathed heavily, her mind still blank as she looked at the close-up Qin Feng. He leaned in and covered her lips with his. Lin Fan felt dazed, her hands and feet cold. She was freezing, a terrifying chill that seemed to leave her heart and lungs devoid of any warmth, causing unbearable pain. Somehow, she found the strength to cling tightly to Qin Feng.

Qin Feng's body was warm. He held Lin Fan close. "Should we go to the hospital? How are you feeling—"

Lin Fan wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, trying to draw warmth from his body. She kissed Qin Feng frantically, biting at his lips and tangling her tongue with his.

After a brief moment of silence, Qin Feng took control, hugging her tightly and kissing her deeply. His hand cradled the back of Lin Fan's head, setting the pace. Lin Fan gradually slowed down, and Qin Feng's hand moved to her back, feeling her heartbeat. After a while, he released her. Lin Fan nearly suffocated and started coughing as soon as she took in the fresh air. Qin Feng gently rubbed her back, "Lin Fan?"

Lin Fan's coughing eased, and she spoke, "This is the second time today."

Qin Feng frowned. "We should go to the hospital for a check-up."

Lin Fan looked up at Qin Feng. "We saw the results from the last check-up."

The flush on Lin Fan's face quickly faded, leaving her pale and bloodless. Her eyes were clear and pure, evoking a deep sense of pity in Qin Feng. He held her in his arms. "Maybe that hospital isn't good enough. We'll go to a different one for a check-up tomorrow."

Lin Fan lay in his warm embrace, easing the bone-chilling cold within her.

"Qin Feng."

"Hmm?"

"What did the doctor tell you that day?"
