The room was dark, Qin Feng placed her on the bed, his hand propped beside Lin Fan's head. "Lin Fan."
His voice was husky, filled with emotion. Lin Fan grasped the bed sheet beneath her, looking into Qin Feng's eyes. Her heart was racing. Qin Feng traced her brows and eyes with his hand, then lowered his head to kiss her eyes, his lips slowly moving down to her mouth.
"Qin Feng—" Lin Fan was scared, her hand tightened and then loosened. In the dim light, she saw Qin Feng's face. The cold, hard lines appeared blurred in the darkness, only his heavy black eyes were clear.
She didn't know what would happen next, but she knew it was significant. His fingers were rough and warm. Lin Fan's blood rushed to her head, she tilted her head up and kissed Qin Feng. His hand reached the hem of Lin Fan's dress, and she suddenly opened her eyes wide, grabbing Qin Feng's arm and breaking free from his lips, panting, "Brother Qin—"
Qin Feng held her hand, looking at her steadily for a few seconds, then lowered his head to kiss her again. "Scared?"
Lin Fan nodded, unsure of what was to come, fearing the unknown. Despite their closeness, they were still two people, after all, men and women were different.
"Should I turn on the light?"
"No!" Lin Fan saw him get up to turn on the light and quickly grabbed his hand, "Don't."
Qin Feng knelt on the bed, holding Lin Fan's hand back, patiently coaxing her. Lin Fan was still young and didn't understand many things, and no one had taught her. If there weren't so many complications, he would be willing to wait, even for years.
"I won't hurt you." Lin Fan still held his hand. Qin Feng kissed her face, his voice almost a whisper, "Kid."
Lin Fan's hand gradually relaxed, but she was trembling badly. Not fully undressed, Qin Feng sighed, held Lin Fan in his arms, and lay down, smoothing her hair.
To hell with it! He wasn't going to do it.
Whatever happens, happens. He would deal with it as it came.
"Don't cry." He put Lin Fan's clothes back on, "Stop crying."
Her face stung from being wiped, she hugged Qin Feng's waist, burying her face in his chest, too embarrassed to hide. Qin Feng comforted her, "I won't touch you, sleep now."
Lin Fan didn't know what she was afraid of. She trusted and liked Qin Feng. But she couldn't control herself. Listening to Qin Feng's heartbeat, she realized that marriage was more than just lying in bed.
Lin Fan's thoughts wandered, not daring to move, not knowing what to do. Gradually, her thoughts subsided, and she closed her eyes. When her breathing became steady, Qin Feng got up and went to the living room. He smoked two cigarettes to suppress his urge, then turned on the computer and continued to look into the details of the heart-digging case.
He stayed up until dawn. Qin Feng got up to stretch and wash his face. The door to the master bedroom opened, and Qin Feng saw Lin Fan peeking out. He smiled, "What are you doing?"
Lin Fan was startled when she saw Qin Feng, immediately standing straight, "Nothing. When did you get up? So early?"
"I didn't sleep." Qin Feng walked out, "What do you want for breakfast?"
Seeing the bloodshot in his eyes, Lin Fan felt bad, swallowing, "Why didn't you sleep? Are you mad?" She moved closer to Qin Feng. Qin Feng chuckled, rubbed her head, "Go wash your face."
"Are you really mad?" Lin Fan didn't leave, looking up, "Brother Qin."
"Kids don't understand." Qin Feng pushed her to the bathroom and walked to the bedroom, he needed to change his clothes, they smelled of smoke.
The master bedroom door closed, Lin Fan's eyes darted around, feeling that Qin Feng was indeed angry. But thinking about last night was really too embarrassing.
Qin Feng was still investigating the heart-digging case, monitoring Ouyang Yu. Maybe because Lin Fan was watching too closely, Ouyang Yu had no chance to get close, and Lin Fan had some peace for a while. She stayed home to study, school was starting in September, not much time left.
Qin's mother called Lin Fan to have dinner with her. Lin Fan had a good impression of Qin's mother, so she went. Qin Feng's father wasn't there. After dinner, Qin's mother took Lin Fan to a nearby amusement park.
It was Lin Fan's first time in such a place, and she found it fascinating.
"Auntie, have you ever ridden that roller coaster?"
"No, his father wouldn't let me."
Their eyes met, and they smiled at each other. Half an hour later, Qin's mother was screaming, clutching Lin Fan's hand. It was too thrilling. Lin Fan had only seen it on TV before, and now experiencing it firsthand, she was overjoyed.

Getting off the roller coaster, Lin Fan bought two ice creams, "Auntie."
Qin's mother hadn't finished one ice cream before her eyes were on another ride. Her husband was a serious man, and she rarely had a chance to play. They went through the thrilling rides, and Lin Fan couldn't take it anymore, suggesting they go to Candy Land, which had many children’s rides.
Lin Fan sat in a candy cup, laughing, while Qin's mother took pictures of her. Suddenly, a piercing cry came from afar, "My child!"
Everyone turned to look. Lin Fan reacted and jumped out of the cup, shouting back, "Auntie, wait a moment, I'll go see what's going on."
Qin's mother waited for the ride to stop and quickly followed.
A woman was crying and shouting, "Where's my child? Have you seen my child?"
The amusement park staff ran over, "What's going on?"
"My child is missing. He wanted ice cream, and then he disappeared!"
"He might have wandered off. We'll broadcast to find him. The amusement park has surveillance, don't worry."
Qin's mother grabbed Lin Fan's arm, "What's going on?"
"Seems like a lost child, didn't watch the kid properly." Lin Fan saw it wasn't serious, and felt relieved. The woman's cry was too heartbreaking. "Auntie, do you still want to play?"
"It's getting late." The sun had set, and the sky was filled with beautiful clouds. Qin's mother said, "Let's go home for dinner."
"Should I call Brother Qin to pick us up?"
"Let's take a taxi home. We won't take him to play." Just as Qin's mother finished speaking, Lin Fan's phone rang. Seeing it was Qin Feng calling, she answered, "Brother Qin."
"What do you want for dinner? I'll bring it home, I'm at the supermarket."
"We're at the amusement park."
"Auntie?"
"Your mom."
Qin Feng: "..."
"Let's have dinner at Auntie's tonight," Lin Fan tentatively asked, "Is that okay?"
"Wait there, I'll come to pick you up."
"Alright."
After hanging up, Lin Fan said, "Brother Qin said he would come to pick us up."
Qin's mother said, "That brat."
Lin Fan bought bubble tea for Auntie, and they walked out of the amusement park to the resting area outside. Lin Fan was still thinking about the woman who had cried so tragically earlier. "I wonder if that woman found her child."
"Hopefully," Qin's mother replied.
Grandma used to say that an overly vibrant sunset was a bad omen, and today's sunset was particularly brilliant. A broadcast from the amusement park could be faintly heard.
"Attention please, we are looking for a lost child: a five-year-old boy, wearing a blue shirt, black suspender shorts, and a hat. He was last seen near Swan Lake. If anyone has information, please contact us at this number..."
He hadn't been found yet. Lin Fan sighed, "They still haven't found him, the broadcast is repeating."
When Qin Feng arrived, it was seven o'clock, and it was already dark. The amusement park was emptying out as people were preparing to go home. Lin Fan opened the car door and got in, hearing what sounded like crying behind her. She looked back.
There was nothing unusual, so she got in the car. "Why did you come here to play?" He turned and looked at Lin Fan, "Did you have fun?"
Lin Fan nodded. She was a bit tired but very happy.
"It was fun."
Qin's mother hummed from the back, "He doesn't get it. They're all workaholics."
Qin Feng, inexplicably criticized again, rubbed his nose and started the engine. Lin Fan looked out the window and saw in the rearview mirror a man stumbling along the road. The car had already moved onto the main road, which was very dangerous with cars coming and going. Lin Fan lowered the window to look back. A car passed right through the man, overtook their car, and drove off.
Lin Fan was stunned. She was about to shout when she saw the man still running on the road. Lin Fan's hand tightened on the window.
"Fan Fan, what are you looking at?" Qin's mother asked, and Lin Fan withdrew her gaze, rolling up the window. She forced a smile and said, "I must have seen it wrong."
Qin Feng's gaze shifted over. When they got home, Qin's mother went to her room to change clothes. Qin Feng pulled Lin Fan to the sofa. "What did you see just now?"
"A man was running after the car. At first, I thought he was human, but then a car went through him, and he kept running. He wasn't harmed. That can't be a person, right?"
"Running after the car?" Qin Feng frowned, "What did he look like?"
"He looked to be in his thirties or forties, a man."
That didn't give him much to go on. Qin Feng turned to another topic, "Did you like the amusement park?"
Lin Fan turned back to Qin Feng and smiled, "It was my first time going. It was a lot of fun."
Qin Feng also smiled, ruffling her hair. "I'll take you again when I have a holiday."
"No need," Lin Fan said, "The tickets are quite expensive, and I've already been."
"We'll go to Disneyland, somewhere you haven't been."
Lin Fan couldn't hide her smile. She held Qin Feng's hand. "Okay."
Qin Feng was amused by her childish excitement and tapped her nose. "I have to go on a business trip tomorrow. If you don't want to stay home alone, come over. It's safer with my parents around."
"We'll see. School is starting soon, and I want to study well. How's the investigation on Ouyang Yu going?"
"His background is very clean. Ordinary working-class family, thirty years old. Parents are alive, from City S. All his school records are there from elementary to college, very clean. Nothing suspicious."
"He's thirty?" Lin Fan was a bit surprised. Ouyang Yu's face looked very young, at most twenty. "He's older than you?"
Qin Feng narrowed his eyes at Lin Fan, "Hmm?"
Lin Fan: "…Ah?"
Qin Feng lifted his chin, "Am I old?"
Lin Fan realized he was sensitive about his age. She laughed, hooking his fingers, shaking her head, "Not old."
Qin Feng looked around, seeing no one, he pulled her close and kissed her, his expression darkening, "Don't call me old!"
"I didn't," Lin Fan's face was burning, fearing he'd kiss her again with Qin's mother still in the room. She covered her face, "You're the most handsome. Brother Qin is the most handsome."
A door opening sounded in the background, and Qin Feng decided to let her go, stopping his teasing.
His mother said, "Your father isn't coming back for dinner today. It's just the three of us. What do you want to eat?"
"Anything."
Lin Fan took the opportunity to escape Qin Feng's grasp, standing up, "Auntie, let me help you."
The next morning, when Lin Fan woke up, Qin Feng was already gone. She heated up breakfast, and while waiting, a news notification popped up on her phone.
"A five-year-old boy went missing at XX amusement park yesterday, suspected of being kidnapped."
Lin Fan quickly opened the news. It was a surveillance video showing the mother and child near Swan Lake. The boy was fussing for ice cream, and the mother went to buy it. Because of the long line, she took out her phone. The child gradually walked out of her sight. Suddenly, a middle-aged woman appeared, picked up the child, and left. The child's mouth was likely covered, so he didn't scream, and the mother didn't notice.
Five minutes later, the mother got the ice cream and realized her child was missing.
"This is the second child abduction case recently. We urge everyone to be vigilant and constantly watch their children to prevent such incidents."
