Qin Feng watched over Lin Fan until dawn. She was still asleep, and her fever had subsided. He went back to his room to change clothes, then into the kitchen to clean up the mess. Just as he finished, he heard footsteps behind him. Turning around, he saw his father approaching. "Up so early?"
"Yeah."
Qin Yunke glanced at him, took a cup, and turned to leave. Qin Feng felt inexplicably uneasy at the look he received. At seven o'clock, Qin Feng received a call from the director. As soon as he answered, the director started yelling at him, "Arresting people without evidence? Do you still want your job? Don't you have enough complaints already? Release him immediately!"
Qin Feng pinched the bridge of his nose. "Understood."
"Don't just understand, release him right away!"
After hanging up, Qin Feng's mother came out. He stood up and drank a glass of water. Yesterday, he had arrested Ouyang Yu and brought him in for questioning, but he hadn't released him yet. The surveillance footage had been wiped clean, and Ouyang Yu had no visible injuries. Ouyang Yu probably wasn't human. Regardless of his motives, Lin Fan's situation was very dangerous.
"What’s for breakfast?" Qin Feng put down his glass and looked toward the kitchen.
His mother came out, glanced at Qin Feng, and chuckled. "Hmph."
Qin Feng: "..."
Just as he was about to leave, his mother spoke, "Why don't you change your name?"
Qin Feng looked up, and his mother sneered. "How old is Fan Fan? Tsk!"
Qin Feng: "..."
He should have taken Lin Fan back to his place last night; his parents' place was too chaotic. Midway through breakfast, Lin Fan came out of the room. Qin Feng heard the door and looked up, quickly putting down his chopsticks and walking toward her. He pushed her back into the room. Lin Fan, puzzled, looked up, nervous, and coughed lightly. "What's wrong?"
"Do you have any other clothes?"
Lin Fan swallowed and pointed outside, whispering, "I need to...go to the bathroom. Can we talk later?"
Qin Feng found a jacket and draped it over her shoulders. "Go ahead."
The hickeys on Lin Fan's neck were obvious and densely packed. She had come out wearing a low-necked shirt, making them even more conspicuous.
In the dining room, his father stood up. "I need to go to the company."
"I have a spa appointment with a friend, so I'll be leaving too. Just leave the dishes, and the maid will clean up later."
"Okay."
After his parents left, Qin Feng breathed a sigh of relief and knocked on the bathroom door. "Take a shower if you need one. Call me if you need anything."
Lin Fan responded softly.
Qin Feng returned to the dining table to continue his breakfast. Lin Fan quickly went back to her room. She had come straight from the hospital, and the clothes she had were prepared by Qin Feng's mother. The closet only had dresses. After thinking for a while, she grabbed a dress and went to the bathroom.
As the water ran over her body, Lin Fan crouched down and covered her face, taking deep breaths. The events of the previous night were chaotic; she only knew they had been very intimate in the end. Her heart pounded, the hot water streaming through her fingers and onto her face. She took a deep breath, feeling a bit dizzy from the steam.
The knock on the door and Qin Feng's voice startled her. "Lin Fan?"
She stood up suddenly, nearly falling due to low blood sugar. She steadied herself against the wall. "Hmm?"
"Don't stay in there too long."
"Okay."
Lin Fan could hear her own heartbeat. She quickly rinsed off, put on her clothes, and walked out, glancing at Qin Feng before darting back into the bedroom to dry her hair.
The atmosphere felt strange. The bed linens had been removed. Lin Fan stayed in her room for a while before going out. Not seeing Qin Feng in the dining room, she relaxed and headed toward the kitchen. "Auntie?"
"My parents went out." Qin Feng came out of the laundry room, drying his hands. His tall frame blocked the sunlight. Lin Fan didn't know where to look and moved toward the dining room. "So early? Are you going to work today?"
Qin Feng brought out Lin Fan's breakfast and placed it in front of her. He pulled out the chair across from her and studied her face. After the shower, she looked more spirited, not as pale.
Lin Fan felt flustered under his gaze. She quickly picked up a spoon to get some food, then put it down and grabbed chopsticks. "Why are you staring?"
Qin Feng chuckled, his voice deep. "Looking at you."
Lin Fan's face grew hotter, and she buried her head in her porridge. "I’m not that good-looking—"
"You are." Lin Fan almost choked. Qin Feng poured her some water, ruffling her hair. "You're very good-looking. We'll go home after breakfast."
"We're not staying here?"
Qin Feng shook his head. "No."
Lin Fan glanced up at Qin Feng quickly before lowering her gaze. "Oh."

Sunlight streamed in through the window, highlighting her profile. Qin Feng reached for his cigarette case but put it back without lighting one. He leaned back in his chair, watching her.
"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you something yesterday."
"Hmm?"
"The ghost we saw at the amusement park was Dong Hui. He discovered traffickers trying to kidnap a child and chased them. But as a ghost, he couldn't intervene, so he came back to steal his body." Lin Fan put down her spoon and looked at Qin Feng. "Is there any news about the child who was kidnapped at the amusement park? With so many cameras around, is it still hard to find them?"
"I'll check on the case when I get to the station."
Lin Fan felt relieved and started to clear the dishes. Qin Feng stood up and stopped her. "The maid will clean up later. Go pack your things; I'll take you home first."
Just then, Qin Feng's phone rang again. Seeing the caller, he frowned and walked to the balcony to answer. "Speak."
Lin Fan looked at his back before going to her room to pack her things.
When she came out, Qin Feng had ended the call and looked upset.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Qin Feng replied as he changed his shoes. He grabbed Lin Fan's bag and strode outside. "I'll take you home first."
Lin Fan stepped out, wearing a skirt with a jacket over it. Her slender white legs were partially exposed. It was the first time Qin Feng had seen Lin Fan in a skirt. Her long hair, slightly curled, cascaded down her back. He pressed the elevator button and looked back at Lin Fan. She seemed lost in thought and didn't notice him. To be precise, Lin Fan was quite beautiful, but she was still young and not fully mature, her face retaining a hint of childishness.
"Qin Big Brother—" Lin Fan suddenly looked up, catching Qin Feng's gaze unexpectedly. She froze for a few seconds, her face flushing red. She scratched her ear awkwardly and looked away.
"What's wrong?" The elevator arrived, and Qin Feng guided Lin Fan inside, pressing the button for the basement. "Hmm?"
"My charm is missing." Lin Fan touched her empty neck and looked up again, her bright eyes flickering. Qin Feng glanced at the security camera, then cupped Lin Fan's face and kissed her lightly on the lips before releasing her.
"I took it."
Lin Fan was still reeling from the kiss and was hit with another surprise. "You took it? When did you take it? I don't remember."
"Last night." Qin Feng smoothed her hair. "You were asleep."
Qin Feng was concerned about Lin Fan's memory; she seemed to forget things quickly.
Lin Fan moved slightly away from Qin Feng's hand, trying to understand why he had taken the charm. "Why?"
"To make charm water for you to drink."
Lin Fan: "..."
She looked up, her face full of disdain. Qin Feng chuckled, his thick eyebrows raised. "You've already drunk it. Complaining now won't help."
Lin Fan couldn't remember drinking it, but hearing this, she could almost taste the paper ash in her mouth. She wiped her lips instinctively. Seeing Qin Feng's amused look, she couldn't resist stepping on his foot. As the elevator door opened, she rushed out first.
They got into the car, and Qin Feng's phone rang again. He answered, "This is Qin Feng."
"Come to my office now!"
After hanging up, Qin Feng tossed his phone into the glove compartment. "Come with me to the office. I'll take you home once I'm done."
"More work?"
"Yeah."
At the office, Qin Feng led Lin Fan to his office, grabbed some files, and headed straight to the director's office. Lin Fan sat at the desk, scrolling through her phone. She saw that her WeChat had added her to a small group, so she sent a smiling emoji.
Old Liu: "Xiao Lin?"
Lin Fan saw his large-faced avatar and replied, "Uncle Liu."
"The body that went missing from the hospital, were you the first to discover it?"
"Yes."
He didn't send another message. Just as Lin Fan was about to ask, her phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. She hesitated for a few seconds before answering, "Hello?"
"Can you describe the situation with the body?"
"I'm in Qin Big Brother's office. Should I come over?"
"That works." Forensic Liu said, "Come over."
Lin Fan went to the forensic office. Forensic Liu was flipping through files. When he heard her, he looked up and pointed to the seat in front of him. "Sit."
Lin Fan sat down. "Uncle Liu."
Forensic Liu was about to say something when his gaze swept over Lin Fan's neck. He coughed and looked away, trying to stifle a laugh. "When did you see the body?"
"The day before yesterday."
"It had been dead for over a week." Forensic Liu looked at her. "How did the body move?"
Lin Fan's eyes widened. "Could it have turned into a zombie? But it didn't hop."
Forensic Liu chuckled, then became serious. "You're different from others, right?"
Lin Fan's mind raced. "What do you mean?"
"Do you want to see the body?" He stood up. "It's in the autopsy center."
"Sure."
The body was worse than expected, with a strong stench of decay. Lin Fan pinched her nose and examined it closely.
"How did he die?"
"Probably a car accident. The initial autopsy report confirmed car accident injuries."
Half of the body's face was mangled. Lin Fan walked around to the other side, noting that the body might have lost a leg.
Her phone rang. Lin Fan stepped outside, removed her gloves, and answered. "Qin Big Brother?"
"Where are you?"
"At Uncle Liu's."
Qin Feng hung up. Lin Fan put her phone away. Forensic Liu asked, "How could the body walk? That doesn't make scientific sense. Are you sure you saw this body? No mistake?"
Lin Fan nodded, put her gloves back on, and walked over to the body. The clothes had been cut open, revealing all the injuries. "Are these injuries old?"
Bruises extended from the chest to the ribs, now a deep purple.
"Pre-mortem injuries," Forensic Liu said, observing the body with folded arms. He was increasingly curious about Lin Fan. Could she really see spirits and be involved in these supernatural events?
Soon, the door was pushed open. Qin Feng greeted Forensic Liu and walked in. "What's going on?"
Forensic Liu frowned, thinking for a moment before saying, "I'm puzzled about how this body traveled across half the city to the train station. It's beyond comprehension. Old Qin, come here and look at the legs. There are signs of dragging. Was someone manipulating the body? How could they do it without leaving restraint marks?"
Qin Feng examined the body and asked, "What was the cause of death?"
"A severe impact that caused a rib to pierce the heart, resulting in death from blood loss."
Qin Feng looked at the abdominal injuries and then picked up the autopsy report. "This case isn't just a car accident; it could be premeditated murder. The case is now transferred to me."
"Good, then explain how the body ended up at the train station."
Qin Feng glanced at him. "I can't explain that. You should check the surveillance footage, preferably at night."
Forensic Liu: "..."
Qin Feng added, "The facial injuries are severe."
"That would happen at very high speed."
Qin Feng put down the report, thought for a moment, and said, "I'll go check the scene. Are you coming?"
"Let's go."
Qin Feng signaled Lin Fan at the door. "Lin Fan, come on."
Lin Fan snapped out of her thoughts, quickly removed her gloves, and followed Qin Feng out.
The speed limit on Highway 301 is 60 km/h, and there are no surveillance cameras around. Qin Feng and the investigation team collected evidence again. A week had passed since the incident, and the scene was heavily disturbed. Dark bloodstains on the ground had dried, and only a few traces could indicate the body's location.
While they were gathering evidence, many cars passed by, all traveling over 80 km/h.
"For injuries like Dong Hui's, what speed would cause them?"
"At least 130 km/h, with no stops. The car would have hit the person and then driven off directly."
Qin Feng and Forensic Liu were examining the ground when they noticed Lin Fan was missing. Qin Feng immediately stood up and shouted, "Lin Fan!"
"Down here," Lin Fan's voice called from below. Qin Feng quickly walked to the edge of the road and saw Lin Fan crouched in the grass, searching for something, which reassured him.
Lin Fan called out from below, "Qin Big Brother, I think I found something."
Qin Feng climbed over the guardrail and ran down the slope in a few steps, seeing clearly that Lin Fan was holding a black, long, rectangular object.
