XXII - Rockslide

XXII - Rockslide

I looked around in the middle of the standing water, trying to figure out what Rosalina was talking about 'unidentified factor' between the low vegetation that couldn't hide anything bigger than rabbits, and the clear water that didn't show anything swimming in it, and yes, they couldn't get through the suit, I I think, and Rosalina would recognize something like that too. I froze in place for a few moments while trying to figure out what exactly was happening until I decided to ask her:

"Which unidentified party are you talking to?"

"There is no official output capable of answering. Probably due to a temporary abnormality of the sensors"

"Strange answer, but I'm still skeptical due to previous times such as the case with the Rex that managed to hide from your sensors and scanners. Is it safe?"

"Positive. The figure was checked once more. If by chance I found something similar, I will alert you as soon as possible"

I continued to move in the shallow water of the stream until I reached the other side. On the bank of the river, I made my way through the mosses and the low vegetation. In particular with the calm sound of the water flowing further and further away with every step I take and the mountain peaks hidden in the clouds, we don't see anything that could indicate another creature. I kept going until finally, I crossed the ravine and managed to get to the other side of the mountain, but the sky was quickly darkening and I could see that I was about to descend into what looked like a wide valley. I decided to stop here for the day and started taking out the food. I managed to find one last fruit I had before happily devouring it. Its taste was refined and sour but extremely juicy, even though I picked it not many days ago. The fruit itself was as big as a pomelo, but that was more than enough to satisfy me. But now the problem arises where I will be able to find something else to eat. Looking back, maybe I should have hunted the six-legged creature when I had the chance before, but now if I don't eat the mosses here, I'll starve even if I do this.

I looked around before turning the area to sleep, but a strong wind began to blow and a strong shaking from the ground only caused me to wake up in a rage. I noticed in the dark that something was wrong here. I went ahead and gathered my gear quickly even after I got ready for bed and the wind continued to pick up. Suddenly lightning struck one of the peaks and a noise began to be heard after the thunder passed:

"Dangerous rockfall movement detected!" Rosalina warned what my gut feared.

While the tremors and noises of the rocks and stones falling from the mountain nearer to me, I began to run as fast as I could towards the valley while I could hardly see anything but the light of the lanterns that showed me the way. As much as I could I tried to avoid stepping on anything green that I thought might be dangerous, stones began to roll quickly until I began to see the smallest ones succeeding in getting me. I started to panic and ignored trying to run away carefully to run away as fast as I could. Side by side towards the valley I began to move but the wind that was against me slowed me down and the larger stones began to jump in a rush beside me until I saw from the darkness one of them jump from the border of the descent straight into one of the mosses that closed and tore them.

The noise began to increase until the entire screen of the helmet displayed red.

"We're in trouble!" I shouted until the rockslide managed to get me. I looked around and noticed a small crevasse next to me, which seemed large enough and convex in such a way that it could repel some of the rockslides. Without thinking too much, I jumped with all the equipment towards the gorge and all the shaking began to be felt as stones and rocks as big as me began to roll and move swiftly down the mountain. I folded my hands defensively from the fury of the rockslide and my entire screen is shown in red. The noises didn't stop and I'm just trying to pray deep in my heart that it's not my time. A few moments later, the noises began to fade to silence. The wind is still blowing strong and more lightning was seen and heard, but I didn't decide to leave the ravine that saved my life. I don't know how and if it's a big luck or someone is watching over me, but when I took my hands off my head and started looking around while I saw some of the rocks when the light of the flashlights showed how black they were, like the area I was advancing not long ago with the brittle stones, I breathed a sigh of relief after All the chaos created with the rockslide.

"Rosalina" I whispered: "Is it safe to go out now?"

"Checking... positive."

I take my head out of the crevice and manage to see all the damage caused by the landslide that managed to make holes in the ground and tear the vegetation and moss from their place. The whole place looks ruined and scattered. I decided to spend the rest of the night in the small crevice trying to sleep. Surprisingly, unlike the last few nights, there was no shaking and strange noises caused by the shaking and I was able to sleep well until the morning light when I left the canyon with the equipment that miraculously managed to survive the rockslide and the shocks from my running and the flying gravel and stones. As I started to move down, all the stones that had deteriorated remained lying on the ground. In most of them, I was able to see fractures and cracks, and some even completely disintegrated and covered their way with black gravel as I continued to descend.

The descent compared to the ascent, felt very different. The descent felt much easier and faster to me, even going through the stones and rocks scattered everywhere. A dot started to appear as I passed by a large rock. I decided to try to approach him gently:

"Her physiological activity shows that she is dying" Rosalina quipped before I saw the six-legged creature lying on the slope next to a large stone. I think I know what happened while she was trying to squirm and pull herself up. I advanced towards her and she was startled by my presence by trying to push her strong legs, but could not stand on them and fell even more. I decided to euthanize her and stabbed her. She stopped moving and my heart started to feel strange - why did I do this? My stomach started growling from hunger and because the food I had prepared for myself was over. I looked up, thinking it might be a sign from heaven. Religion may be an amalgamation of myths and history, but at this moment, I feel like someone is watching me and wants me to survive this. The crevice and now the poor creature, began to fill me with hope.

I found a place to sit and started preparing the meat. I took out the grill and collected the vegetation and mosses that were around me and used them as fuel for the fire. The smoke released from them was black as coal and smelled foul and strong. I looked at the equipment and remembered that I had the branches of the strange plant that gave off a smell reminiscent of vanilla from the terminal and decided to add it to the stinking fire and the smell began to mellow and became more tolerable as I placed the meat. The different smell of meat made my stomach rumble from the delicious smell of cooking and after a short while, I took off the helmet and started biting into it and chewing on it.

"It reminds me of the taste of chicken" I said as a joke, but it tasted more umami and salty than any printed chicken cubes I've ever eaten.

"Positive. It has physiological processes that produce proteins reminiscent of those of the domestic chicken"

"You know I said that as a joke?"

Rosalina was silent without saying anything else while I continued to eat and Hal of the meat to try to smoke them. I already feel like I have mastered how to smoke meat. While I was waiting and adding more moss to the fire, I walked around among the stones and saw how they were all cracked and touched one of them. Suddenly the touch caused the stone to crumble like dust at the point where I touched it. I moved my hands away, continued to move forward, and decided to look at the view. I didn't pay attention to him because I was curious about what happened after the landslide and because it was dark when I first saw the valley and now, I decided to look at the view - at the bottom of the mountain I saw a wide and large valley spread out flat, it seemed to be at the same height as the desert, and I raised my head and my eyes opened wide and with excitement - Something resembling a broad black column stands like a lighthouse and sinks between the clouds and the fog that covers the edge of the valley. I only recognized him with a sharp look and burst out with joy.

"Rosalina! I'm close to the goal!" I raised my hand in joy

"Positive. One of the port buildings - a space elevator, was detected. Route calculation..."

A hologram of the visual map began to display in front of me with the route crossing the valley and a uniform area not identified by it. It's hard to say what awaits me and what can present as an obstacle, but now that my goal seemed as prominent as the sun itself, not only will I not need to fear losing the way, but this also gives me the greatest chance of being saved! I took the meat out of the smoke and helped things quickly. The excitement of success pushed me to move forward as fast as possible and after I waited for the grill to cool down and set it in place, I began to carefully descend between the rocks.

The mosses and the low vegetation with the lying rocks that deteriorated from the landslide changed to the black and brittle layer and later it also changed to the layer with the strange conifers. Like the journey above, only in reverse until what is called an investment I have reached the wide valley. Everywhere I looked, especially the ridge behind me, grass and single trees stood everywhere. Walking in them feels particularly smooth and I moved forward without thinking twice. Dots on the map began to appear everywhere and by chance in one of the grasses that stood in front of me when I tried to pass through them, something resembling large butterflies with wings and a green shell began to fly and carelessly moved away from me into the sky in a spectacular and elegant spectacle of flight. I couldn't stop because of the excitement and kept pushing forward into the valley.

"Suspicious movement detected again" Rosalina warned me and showed a gray dot on the map, different from the dots I know so far.

I quickly turned in the approximate direction of the gray dot, but I didn't see anything, even if it existed on the map:

"Are you sure there's something there? I don't see anything"

"Positive, there is an unknown and identified movement, the same data as in the river"

"I think if that's true, I'm afraid I should get as far away from here as I can"

"Agree" Rosalina responded and I grabbed my gear tightly and started running on the grass away from him. The seemingly endless valley began to be covered in fog in the evening and it was difficult for me to see what was in my way. The lights started to come on but failed to penetrate deeper into him. I decided to move forward more slowly and safely. When I looked at the map, the gray spot identified earlier not only did not disappear, but it also began to rapidly approach. Then a red dot was detected on the other side advancing towards me:

"Warning: A hostile creature is approaching you!"

I without hesitation took out the plasma rifle and armed him. The red dot quickly approached until out of the mist a shadow began to appear and reveal its shape: something resembling a jaguar with a wider jaw and larger teeth, its entire body covered in scales and feathers, at least according to its rapidly advancing shadow. He suddenly started jumping and I fired the weapon. The bullet hit him, but the light created by the impact splashed and revealed his size. Big as a rhinoceros! I took off the equipment and threw it before I saw his eyes and face clearly and clearly, he was about to jump on me.

I jumped to my side and he missed. I could see where I hit him, but the hit area didn't even penetrate deep into him. I loaded the weapon and he with his cat eyes began to open his mouth and spit a sticky liquid at me pinning me to the floor before I could even react. The glue was so strong that I could not move my hands and feet from the place. The situation has become particularly bad.

"The glue was identified as originating from velvet worms" is this coldness, not as if it helps me in the battle for life and death.

I quickly try to move my hand as far as I could towards the knife, but the creature moved forward and spat out more sticky liquid that covered the pocket where the knife was and I was completely stuck in the liquid. He started moving forward and opened his huge mouth and started jumping on me. Idlely, I closed my eyes and hoped that the suit could withstand his large teeth but I heard a thump from my direction and felt no pain or cut. I opened my eyes and he was not standing in front of me. I here heard the sounds of the powders from the fog with the shadow of the creature struggling against something much bigger than it and of an unclear shape. I started trying to free myself from the glue by moving sideways. One of my arms managed to free itself and I started to tear the rest off. With the glue remaining on most of my body and the creature still struggling, I advanced to the equipment and fled the scene into the fog.

"Who is he fighting against?" I asked myself as I try to step on the weapon in case he comes back and looks at the map while

"Against the unknown"
