In the morning light, I got organized and continued on the route. Along the entire length of the track, vegetation dominated and they were seen everywhere, even among the skyscrapers that seemed cracked and covered with trees everywhere but refuse to collapse and decorate my ride with wild green. I was mostly focused on the track until recently, a problem popped up:
"Colin, the car's fuel level is low" Rosalina pointed out.
I was frustrated on the sides and saw from different circles. One of them was marked on what looked like an old gas station, pointing to the letter E. Quickly the car began to slow down on the track until it stopped and the lights of that strange gas station started to come on.
"Ran out of gas" Rosalina pointed out again.
"I think I already figured it out"
I got up from the empty car and looked around, not before I noticed a round cover placed on one of the sides of the car and opened it. From it, a strong smell of gasoline floated everywhere. I quickly closed not before searching the storage compartment for something that might look like it, but there was nothing.
"Do you know of a way to get gas?" I asked her.
"Negative, since there is no connection..."
"That there is no connection, there is no access, I know I know"
I look at the car trying to think of what to do. Now that it has no fuel, and the chance of finding or producing something like that with what I have is.. well, zero. At this rate, I think I'll need to ditch the car and move on without it. I started moving towards the equipment and started trying to line them up for what is called a move and say hello to the car...
"I suppose there is an alternative solution" she said out of nowhere:
"According to scans, there may be an alternative option that comes from the plants in the area"
"This is good news for our current situation"
"Not necessarily. I got physiological scans from down on a plant capable of a chemical signature, very similar to that of gasoline. If we could extract them, we'd have a new fuel source for the car."
"This means that all we have to do is go down and find them, process them, and put the configuration in the car and it should drive like before" I said while walking to the end of the track, where there was a distance of two steps between me and the downfall. I understood what she meant.
"Is there the fastest way to get down?"
"Positive. There is a split that leads to a nearby station a few hundred meters away. But you'll need to push the car forward, gravity will do the rest"
I think I understand what she meant. I put the equipment back in the car and emptied any equipment that could make it difficult for me and moved to the back of the car. I started pushing. The effort was hard and no matter what I did, I couldn't get the car to move.
"You forgot to lift the brake" she said coldly
I moved to the front of the car and released the brake. Suddenly the car started moving forward and I who was standing outside the car hardly realized what happened until it started to accelerate. I clumsily jumped into the cab with my feet out and my hands on the steering wheel as the car began to roll down and pick up speed. I pulled myself forward and push my foot towards the brake hard. The car started to slow down on the downhill and I was able to get control of it. I looked at the map to see where it wanted to lead me and held the wheel as it sped down.
In front of me, we see on the horizon the split she spoke to. I need precise timing or I'll miss it completely, and I don't have full control over the speed or direction of the car. I hit the brakes to get some control and went down pretty slowly until I got to the split. I managed to turn in his direction and I continued with the car to go down more until the track leveled out I found myself driving straight with the traction power until it came to a complete stop at the entrance to the station where it was standing.
I looked to the sides before getting out of the car and taking what equipment I could take. I put the rifle to the side and the knife ready to draw and moved outside. There awaited me a large and torturous forest of branches and vines everywhere I looked. I started moving around to maybe get a hint of what I was looking for, but instead, I started turning to Rosalina:
"Calculation received... complete! The approximate distance is marked for you on the map"
The map began to show a route leading her back in the direction I had come from, straight to where she had scanned the plant that could help with the fuel problem. The desire that, instead of walking the distance and driving the car that made my life easier, is just another motivation that pushes me forward on the path it marked. Ferns and branches were everywhere I advanced until it was worth it so I took out my knives to make a way through the dense forest. The forest was as wild green as ever, but something of a different color popped up among the green forest: something red was hanging on his way. I felt hungry and bit into the piece of smoked meat. I decided to try to ask her about this thing in front of me:
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
"This is a fruit that, according to a scan, is safe to eat"
I was soon excited that something sweet was on the way. I can't remember the last time I ate something sweet. Thanks to this I advanced to the fruit that hung high on the tree, deviating from the path due to a desire for sweetness. But out of nowhere a shadow appeared and stole the fruit before I could react.
"No!!! My fruit!!" I screamed from the loss of sweetness in a bitter time, like a child whose candy was stolen. Rosalina was not moved by the situation. I recovered quickly, confused by the situation I created here, even though there is nothing else watching me. I guess this creature was happy to take the fruit from me while I got back on track.
I didn't count how long I kept pushing through the vegetation, but according to the map I'm close to the location where she picked up the target plant. Given the fact that I haven't found anything else dummy on the way, I just guess it's lucky that there's something like this that coincidentally expected it. Suddenly on a map, Rosalina began to show red dots:
"I caught on the screen a hostile movement by the plant"
"I got it" I started arming the plasma rifle and carefully moving through the vegetation closer and closer to the location and there I found what she was talking about: there was a creature much larger than me, similar to a camel with a long face of an iguana, grasping branches of the tree that stood in front of me with the long claws of one of its legs the fronts and bites them.
"Is that the plant?"
"Positive"
"And I thought my luck just turned"
The creature turned to the side, admitting that no one had laid eyes on it before returning to its business and nibbling on more branches. I moved gently around him in another area where there was vegetation that could hide me, stepping on the weapon ready to fire at the most critical moment. Carefully from interest, I managed to turn to the other side and the creature began to advance further and left the place walking on its long claws deep into the forest. The red dot began to move away from the scene before disappearing from Rosalina's scanners. This was my signal to proceed safely to the tree. Gently advances and touches the tall tree with some of the branches eaten by the creature. A yellowish liquid with a strong smell began to drip from them. Rosalina began to command me what to do:
"Coline, to get what you want, you will need to cut the trunk of the tree in a spiral shape" She began marking with a laser the location to cut. I pulled out the plasma knife but she stopped me:
"Using this knife will cause the wood to scab, which is an undesirable situation. Use a sharp object instead"
I took down the equipment and took out the machine tool and set it to cutting mode. He produced something resembling a metal blade and I began to follow Rosalina's instructions. While I was cutting, the same liquid oozed out of the tree that looked like it dripped from the eaten branches. I took out a large pot that I found earlier and placed it under the cut and all the liquid ran into the pot. Its yellow color filled up quickly until at the same speed it was already full and I started to change to the second one I had, a little smaller.
I patrolled to the sides a bit and repeated the action until I was able to fill all the pots I had. I looked at them until I realized that I made a small mistake - how am I supposed to bring them back? They do not go into the storage compartments of the makeshift bag. Rosalina quickly proposed a solution of tying them by hand if all the equipment after covering them with large leaves that are around. I quickly began to act.
I picked every large leaf I could find in the area, made a hole, and threaded the cables I had in my bag. I covered the pots with them and finally, I managed somehow thanks to her guidance to tie all the things as one body. The fine liquid dripped from the tree and I was just getting ready to move when another red dot comes straight from the same place the creature went:
"warning!" She pointed out and I moved quickly back into the bushes with clumsy steps I heard the creature run back to the tree and appear where I had cut the trunk in all its glory, sniffing the place and moving sideways around. After a few moments of tension, until it was worth it so that I cocked the weapon again and aimed at him, he returned to chewing the branches. I took the opportunity to retreat and return to the car.
Gently I moved until I was a safe distance away. I feel sorry for the tree that just won't let it rest.
On the way back, I passed the same way I did. Unfortunately, some of the liquid leaked from the pots and splashed everywhere, but most of the contents were not lost and remained in place, indicating that I was able to do this. It didn't take long until I got back to the station and with him to the car. I organized the things and placed all the pots next to his gas station.
"So what do we do with this liquid?" I asked
"To reach the desired composition, you have to warm them up"
"Then" I collected twigs and leaves and using the plasma knife I created a fire on top of it, I covered it with concrete fragments next to them and placed them next to the fire. The smell that bubbled from the liquid was particularly noticeable. After some more time, when the sun began to set again, Rosalina signaled to me that it was enough and I took the pots away from the fire and turned it off. The liquid changed slightly to a greenish color with a hint of yellow.
"Now, the biodiesel you created can be used as a similar fuel substitute"
"Then I just have to drain all the fluid into the car"
"Positive"
I took the liquid and opened the fuel cell and poured all the contents, as much as I could into it. I used a pot and another pot until all the liquid got in there. I moved the car forward and started trying to start the engines. The car started moving and making noise. The gauges indicated that the fuel was close to being full. It felt like a good sign to me and I prepared myself for the next step. I pressed my foot on the gas and the car started moving! I was excited that I had solved the fuel problem for now, but now that darkness had begun to cover the sky and the forest, I decided to stop here for the day and check how much I had left. I asked Rosalina to show the map but she did not respond.
A strange spelling began to appear on the screen that I couldn't understand until it suddenly disappeared and the map was displayed.
"Rosalina? What was that?"
"What was?"
"There was something strange written on the screen"
"Checking your memory... nothing has appeared on the screen"
