Chapter 20: The Tavern…..And Jennys Uncle

As soon as I walk into the tavern, I notice there are different people of various species. I see a man behind the bar. He's hairy from head to toe. He makes eye contact with me and winks. I quickly look away and notice a snake-like person sitting down, drinking something that resembles an ale.

Jenny hollers at me. I turn around and notice she's sitting down in a booth with two drinks. I walk up to her, and she smiles. "Have a seat, Kamen; we haven't had some time by ourselves without the others in the same area." She says this as she pushes one of the drinks towards me. Looking down, I grab the drink and smell it.

I look at her curiously. "What is this, and why does it smell like red Kool Aid?" She gives me a smirk and answers. "It's blood, but they have various tastes to choose from, and I remembered that you like red Kool Aid, so I got it for you." She smiles, then takes a drink from her glass. I motion for her drink. "What do you have there?" She looks down and laughs. "Oh, this is whiskey, but it tastes like I'm drinking a soda."

I shrug and nod my head. "I personally wouldn't have chosen soda, but it's whatever." I think to myself as I take another drink from my glass. Closing my eyes, I savor the taste. "It's been so long since I've had this." I say this as I open my eyes and stare at Jenny. She looks like she's in shock.

Turning around, I see what she's looking at. A tall man with a muscular build, a handlebar mustache, and a scar above his right eye He looks intimidating as hell. I look back at Jenny and grab her hand. "Hey, what's wrong? Who is he?" I ask her, and she slowly looks at me. Looking down, she answers with a sob. "That's my uncle; growing up, he would make me do unruly things. When my parents were gone, he would make me eat my dinner on the ground and make me sleep outside with the beasts, and I couldn't do anything about it. My parents wouldn't believe me and told me that I was only saying that for attention."

Hearing this, I feel my heart sink, and I feel my anger slowly rise up. I go to get up from my seat when I feel Jenny's hand on my arm. I look at her and see her crying. "Kamen, please don't do anything. Hopefully he won't see me here." She says she's trying to hold back from crying anymore so she won't make a scene. I feel her hand shaking and realize she's absolutely terrified.

I sit back down, hold her arm, and look at her. "Jenny, I'm sorry that happened to you. I never knew that happened. I promise that I'll do everything I can to protect you from letting anything like that happen again." I say, looking down at the table, and realize that I'm a terrible person for not knowing what she went through. We hear foot steps, and Jenny looks up and freezes. "So I guess they'll let anyone in here. You should've died when you were little so this man here wouldn't have to look at you. You're a pathetic mess, Jenny. You'll never be anything other than a disgrace to this family." He says, leaning over, looking her in the eyes.

Hearing him say this, I gripped the table and cracked it. Standing up, I get in his face, and I look him in the eyes. He stands up, stares at me, and laughs. "What are you going to do? Protect your little whore of a girlfriend." He says this as I reach out and grab him by the throat and lift him off the ground. His eyes go wide in shock.

"Do you know who I am? I can make your life a miserable hell if you don't release me. I'm warning you." He asks between gasps for air. I squeeze harder, and my eyes slowly fade to black as I stare into his eyes. "How Dare You....Talk....To.... Her In That Way?" I say this as I feel my anger reach its boiling point and throw him across the tavern. He slams into the wall, cracking it. Out of breath, the man tries to get up. "You'll pay for that. I'll make sure you won't leave the village alive." Is all he can say before I appear in front of him in a flash, pulling my arm back and charging it up with dark energy? Looking the man in the eyes. I say one last thing to him. "You will never hurt anyone again, or make them suffer and make them feel like they're beneath you." My eyes are fully black. I slam my fist down and crush his skull down into his torso as I pick him up and throw him into the other wall of the tavern. As soon as he hits the wall, I'm there again. Punching him again and again. Bones snap, and blood flies everywhere as everyone in the tavern looks at me in shock. It would seem they rarely ever see a fight, even one this one-sided. I stop hitting him, pick him up again, slam him into the wall until the wall cracks, give him away, and throw him into the street.

When I release all of the darkness in my body, everyone can be seen being pushed to the ground, unable to move. The pressure can be felt throughout the village. Alistair and the others coming out of a weapon and armor shop suddenly feel the pressure. They fall to one knee except Elizabeth. "What is with this pressure?" He asks as he realizes where it's coming from. Before he can speak, Elizabeth speaks for him. "It's Kamen; something or someone must have done something to really piss him off." She says this as she tries to move and notices she can barely move. "Damn it, how did he get so strong? Is Vestis helping him that much?" She thinks to herself as she tries to summon magic to help her move.

Alistair, straining to get up, does the same thing and realizes they can move. They make their way to the tavern, knowing it might be too late to save whoever pissed Kamen off.

"You shouldn't exist for the pain you brought to others. The pain you brought to Jenny! She was a child, you damned monster!" I growled out, picking him back up. Pulling his head out of his chest, I notice his body is healing. I sneer and slam him back into the ground before pushing my fist through his chest, ripping out his heart, and biting into it.

The man falls to the ground and gasps, his eyes fading to white. "No, you don't," I growl out as I send the light to heal his wounds. The man's heart grows back into place, and his eyes open up. They look up and see a monster. My eyes are completely black, and my skin is slowly chipping away to reveal black underneath. Looking into his eyes, Vestis pops out of my eyes, rips his head off, and holds it. "A worm like you deserves to suffer for eternity." He says this before opening his mouth wide, swallowing the man whole, and sending him to suffer a fate worse than death. Stuck forever with Vestis torturing him in the worst ways possible.

The man disappears. Everyone made it to the tavern, and I saw them swallow the man whole and gasp in horror. I turn to them, smiling, showing my blackened teeth that look impossibly sharp, and feel the true weight of the darkness. Everyone is overwhelmed and falls to the ground, unable to move. I walk up to them and tilt my head.

I sniff the air around them and lick my lips, staring at Alistair. I speak. "You look tasty; I promise I won't eat you whole, maybe a leg and an arm." Alistair shudders at the thought and tries to speak, but is unable to. He resigns to his fate and looks down.

He hears laughter, looks up, and sees me still cloaked in darkness. Clearly confused, I look at him and speak. "Oh my god, you should have seen your guys' faces. That was priceless." I release the pressure and let the darkness fade away, with Vestis having fun with his new 'toy'. Everyone gets up and slowly backs away. "What was that, Kamen?" Alistair says he is not sure if he can trust me. I can't contain my laughter or explain. "That was payback for scaring the shit out of me the first time we met."

Alistair thinks about it and speaks up. "Is that what you felt when we first met?" He looks unsure. I nod my head. "I honestly thought I was going to die." I say, slapping him on the back. Jenny runs outside the tavern looking for me. She sees me standing with everyone and runs up to me, grabbing me with tears in her eyes.

"Kamen, I thought you said you would try to control your anger for me?" She says she is looking up at me, saddened after what she just witnessed. I wipe the tears away from her eyes and explain. "Well, at first I was really angry and wanted to take it out on him, but when I felt that everyone was coming this way, I figured I would scare Alistair and make him feel the same way I did back then."

She stares at me and slaps me across the face. Shocked, I look at her. She's still crying and saying "I was really worried about you, Kamen. I thought I was going to lose you to the darkness, and this was all for revenge." She turns around and walks away.

Looking at everyone else, I look for an answer. They shrug their shoulders and motion for Jenny to walk away. Getting the hint, I run after her.
