"Hn~ Hn Hn hnnn~!"
I walked around with a wide bashful smile. For some specific reasons, I was above the weather today and it felt like my world is shining like a diamond in the sky!
"Deyaah!" Then a foreign voice full of hostile intent appeared from the side.
I leaned and stepped backward, missing the attack and I swung up the wooden sword. The student was struck squarely on the stomach and with a bit of aura...!
"Gwaaaaaaaah!?" The boy screamed as she rotated like rolling drum drawing an arc in midair.
Oh, there's also another one from behind. I slid to the left and elbowed the rushing backstabber at the solar plexus.
Then came another attack from the...
"Otto." I shuffled and kicked the ground to propel myself backward.
An airborne attacker failed right in the next moment. His daggers missing his target but since he attacked...
"Wide open again~!" I exclaimed as I delivered a chop at his neck!
"Gbah!?"
Then the dull sounds of falling bodies faded as soon as they appeared. Oh my, is that it?
"Whoa... she literally trashed the whole class of upperclassmen one Rank above her." A certain maroon haired girl sighed.
"And she's not even vigilant for once. She's playing around with that creepy smile - *bam!* - Ouch!"
"Eh!? A sword throw!? And with two fingers too! It's my first time seeing one!!"
Hmph! What do you mean by creepy, Leon!? Also, I didn't do most of the job with you two piling two hills of corpses like that.
Well, the corpses part is just figurative speech. In any case...
"Ara ara. If you have time to observe your sister, would you like to have a spar?" I tilted my head.
The two had beads of sweats right now. They shook their heads and exhaled.
"It's scary to think how strong sister has become," Leon said. "Somehow, I can't believe your progress."
Especially that golden veil, he pointed out. It surprised me that I looked at myself.
"Uwah! I used Soul Essence without realizing it!!" I gasped.
Th-This is bad! I closed my eyes and concentrated at the core of my existence. Feeling the small spark at the center of my chest, I noticed there were some 'hazes' escaping the spark. Uuu... to think that I even forgot in keeping it in check...
And so I imagined my hands grasping those sparks, pulling them in before fusing them with the small spark with spherical form. There were some resistances as the hazes squirmed around but I maintained my focus in the process.
In the end, I succeeded sorting them back in place. I also 'held' tightly the spark so as to ensure no further leakage occurred.
"...fuu, that was dangerous." I exasperated and wiped my forehead.
"Oh, she's back to normal." Anise said.
"Hmh... how strange. Is that your new source of power, big sis?" Leon asked.
I waved my hand as I smiled faintly. As if I could tell them I used some of my lifespans to boost myself. There'd be an uproar and things might get horrible if Fei heard it.
Haa. Since Iris always fought with Soul Enchantment in active state, her habit carried over to my current battle style. I haven't integrated hers fully as it's difficult to adjust the strength and flexibility with our different physique.
Also, I didn't know that all demi-humans have long lifespans with the least fortunate having four times more than ordinary humans' in third world country. Iris came from royal bloodline too so her lifespan seemed to be nearly equal to the elven.
Then, the reason demi-humans were often ostracized would be their harsh environments... huh? How troublesome.
".........."
But I didn't notice that someone else in the practice field was eyeing me with solemn eyes.

In the afternoon, I decided to participate in Runology class.
Unlike before, the lessons had moved up a notch with many terms and complex formulas. One of them being...
"Moving on to Weapon Inscriptions, everyone now have understood that among many inscriptions, there are several categories. Miss Alia, would you like to explain further?"
My classmate nodded and stood up.
"There are 'Instant Inscription' where the effect is for one-time use, 'Semi-permanent Inscription' where the same effect can be activated and deactivated until the inscription duration vanished, 'Continuous Inscription' where it is fueled by external mana and active as long as this method is applied, and 'Permanent Inscription' where the inscription is capable of self-sustainment with everlasting effect."
"Good," the teacher nodded. "With that, we shall practice how to inscribe a Rune on objects but mind you, any small mishap and you will instantly fail."
Ergh, this guy ordered for something ridiculous. I haven't understood even the part in how to make the Rune going on and off y'know?
Well, fine. I'll just ask Alia.
"Hm? Well, if you're asking for the Trigger... let's just say Rune is like a clockwork." Alia replied.
Clockwork...? What relation is there with Rune?
"There are gears placed together to create single giant movement. If Inscription is the result of the gears moving together, the Trigger is the largest gear that will create the movement."
"So... it's a key?"
"That logic is not wrong. Charlotte, if you wanted it, you can try to inscribe a Rune on your weapon. I'll lend a hand in the meanwhile."
Really? That saved me some efforts but...
"What about your Rune, Alia?" I asked.
"I can already inscribe a 3rd-tier Rune. I also have the formulas laid out so all I need to do is finishing the tune up." Alia answered.
Hoee... Runes have difficulty in five tiers so Alia mastering the 3rd tier was no small feat. She's already halfway to go in clearing this class...!
But... hm... I looked at Radiata. I pulled it out and placed the sword on the table. Including the sheath, I decided to think what kind of Rune would work with a swordsman.
"...say, Alia. What kind of inscription should I use?"
"Uhm... elemental Rune isn't good if one were to face an enemy with counter-opposite attribute. And Instant Inscription won't work in battle of endurance so..."
Either Permanent or Semi-Permanent huh? I can't use my mana too much so Continuous Inscription is out for me too. But the problem is, Permanent Inscription is a pain in the ass for the long procedure while the Semi-Permanent is like a battery.
Oh, right.
"Alia, what kind of Rune works against golems?" I asked.
But seeing her frowning, I felt like I stepped on a landmine.
"Golems are products of witchcraft. They tend to have artificial mana pathway and their durability is nearly unmatched. Also, there are as many types of golems as many elements there are."
Hoo... Fei didn't tell me the specific so it'll probably a mixup of all elements. Still... what kind of Rune is suited for such versatile enemy...?
Hm.... I crossed my arms and pondered. Searching for my memories, I realized there's something I could use!
"That's right!" I exclaimed and grabbed the sheath. "Teacher, is it allowed for us to cooperate with everyone?"
The teacher, who was a man in mid forty tilted his head. His beard swayed and he raised an eyebrow.
"That is fine in all but you too must participate in the inscription process. Please mention the students who cooperated with you too when making the report of your success."
I nodded down with a confident smile. Alia stared at me dumbfounded and she asked.
"Umm, Charlotte? What are you trying to do? Also, isn't your sword that will receive the inscription?"
Heh he! She's clueless! But that's fine... After all...!
"Don't worry~ It'll be interesting, Alia!"
Like a certain someone, I grinned with a sign of mischief in my tone of voice.

"Hn... Alright, with this... The class is now over!" I exclaimed while stretching my limbs.
Phew... so tired. Even though its only a week after my return, I crammed a lot of lessons and putting them in practices, training a bunch of students lacking in battle understanding, also preparing myself for the incoming exploration of Ascheral Ruins.
As I sat on the chair in the abandoned garden near old school building, I began reading a book and scribbling on pieces of parchment. Not too long after, I sensed a familiar presence with my aura.
"Oh? Fei, you're early today."
"It's more like you being too early, you know?"
Coming out from a tree shades, my beloved person exhaled before looking at me.
"Hm? What are those papers?" He asked.
"This? It's nothing but tactical knowledge books." I answered as I raised a parchment
Presenting it to Fei, he took the offer in skimming the content and his eyes rounded up.
"....aren't all these Aeinsland's stratagems? And they looked better than the actual ones!"
Oh my, thank you for the compliment but those are nothing more than Blitzkrieg tactics and straightforward castle siege methods you know? Also, things that have been used in battlefield would become common sense in the next battle so copies of these existed all across the Territory.
"I decided it may work if I learned everything else including how to lead troops. I was given the Chevalier status so I couldn't not using it to the best of my ability."
"...don't rush ahead. It will be bad if your illness relapsed."

Heh he. As long as I maintained my control over my soul, as if I'd receive it. Before Iris' memories merged with mine, I'd have been at a loss about it but now...?
Well, as long as I don't meet the unexpected or getting distracted too much, I think I can get this into a habit.
"Then, have a seat. Would you like for some tea, Fei?" I offered a cup of earl gray.
Fei looked at the tea set and he said, "Where did you get them?"
"Well, some classmates wagered their private saving should I defeated them in General Combat."
That's extortion, Fei commented with half-drooping eyes. Hey, at least the duel was fair. Besides, I also tried asking Mr. Shield about which tea leaves are good for afternoon break.
Fortunately, his harem members are all knowledgeable. Apparently, teas are the best local products of Raumia so I ended up buying more than required. Haa... for local specialties, their prices really are questionably cheap.
Maybe the merchants would raise the prices if they met visitors or nobles. It's kind of fortunate that the Merchant Guild supported the commoners and adventurers.
"Well, I got these as gifts though..." I mumbled.
"Did you say something?"
No, it's nothing, I replied. Then Fei who was sitting across me released his tired mask and the light in his eyes grew solemn.
"Now then. Charlotte, your equipment will arrive tomorrow." Fei reported.
"Huh... that's quite fast." I said with surprise filling my tone of voice.
"The Old Man is good with his hands. Although his father is more or less ridiculous considering his talent."
Oh...? Fei is complimenting someone? Again, I heard a rare news so I wanted to find out more.
"You seemed to know those father and daughter well."
"I'm actually acquainted with the previous owner of that forgery. After all, he was the one who taught me how to forge Anti-Mana Swords."
...eh? Seriously? So this Grandpa character is Fei's blacksmith teacher? But now I understand why he brought me there. He wanted me to receive the best equipment there is.
While I don't dislike it... at least he could have told me the main reason. After all, hearing a regular report was like hearing a boyfriend visiting another girl's home everyday.
Also... for the past week, Fei became incredibly busy while I had to chase after my study.
"...it doesn't seem like we're given time, huh?" I blurted out.
"I know. But I don't want any stupid mistake to harm you, Charlotte." Fei answered.
Both of us took a deep breath and sighed.
"Also... Charlotte. About the ruin exploration..."
Hm?
"...there will be another person accompanying us."
Eh? Seriously? Well, I don't think it's wrong to ask for some more help with how you got beaten senselessly. But it led me to a new question.
"Is it a woman?" I asked.
Fei gulped down his saliva and was sweating profusely. Gee, I shouldn't have asked. Not to mention...
"...looks like you got yourself swindled by a troublemaker." I muttered, then sipping my tea.
"Gh... I'm sorry. If I could, I would have refused but I don't have power as I am now..." Fei apologized.
Haa. Such a handful Prince you are. But from how Fei worded it... Looks like this woman is someone influential.
As I heard of it, Fei tried distancing himself from Raumia because his family regarded him as a Monster. Therefore denying his existence.
From this, I deduced that he has strained relationships now that he returned. And he put off a rebellion so those who denied him probably reacted not in a mild manner. Also, Fei said his siblings were on par with him if not stronger.
Considering this person's involvement...
"Fei. Are you the youngest child?"
"Eh... I guess second youngest. But the others aren't so far in term of age. Why are you asking?"
I nodded down several times while crossing my arms. Knowing how Fei treated strangers and nobles, I guess this is just a logical outcome. Even against Takeru and Ivory, Fei would never react like earlier.
It seems... I will have to take up the stage and aim for approval. Since we're both engaged (The Vagnalos-Oratoria pact) and inofficially are lovers... to receive consent from our families are the best option.
"It's okay, Fei. I can behave when I want to so you don't have to worry." I reassured my boyfriend.
He made a sound, "H-Haa...? Right. Although I don't really get it."
Oh, that's right. I almost forgot to confirm it.
"It's not like she's your first love or something right?"
"The world is going to end first before I fall in love with a vixen like her."
Uwaah, that's some words to say. I almost let out that comment out but Fei added an 'also...'
"Hn?" I wondered as he halted his words.
Then, the black-haired youth averted his gaze away. His cheek was red up to his ear and he squeezed out words.
"...Also. You're the only one I love, Charlotte."
"........"
....eh? I think I heard something incredible that my brain short-circuited. But noticing Fei's gaze, I felt my cheeks becoming hot.
"I-I see...! Th-That's good to hear!! Un!"
Uuuu...! What a daredevil! I didn't expect such special attack was hidden when I tried to make a joke out of it! So this is the power of love? It's more like buuurning ra-bu!
...at any rate. I coughed vehemently and diverted the talk.
"So what will we do? Exploring the ruin? Finding something? Or is it exterminating monster?" I sent out all of my questions.
Since from what I gathered about the Ruin, all I know is that products of witchcraft were guarding it and that they're so tough they could incur permanent damages on a Hero like Fei.
"About that..." Fei paused. "...I intend to reach the deepest place of the Ruin. There's something I must find in there."
Oh... so it's an item gathering. Well, I guess anyone will never be able to take out a fine harvest if tough pests kept coming out one after another.
"Then looks like we need to prepare for prolonged battles huh?"
"That has been on my mind, so..."
"Hm... that may work but..."
Unaware of the passing time, the two of us continued to discuss our strategy.

Phew. I guess this's it. I exhaled as I rubbed my drowsy eyes.
"It took us almost until midnight... huh?" Fei exasperated as he glanced at the dark atmosphere.
Even so, it was worth it. I felt like I was preparing for final exam again... Uuh, that was a nightmare. It's fortunate that most of the classes I participated in required practical results rather than research papers.
But... After all that. I think I want some refresher. Of course it's not food, okay? I looked at Fei tidying up the table. After pondering, my cheeks felt warm and I looked again at Fei.
"Nee, Fei. Do you mind coming here?" I signaled.
The Black Hero shuddered for a moment. He stared at me as if stealing glances but I smiled at him, slightly abashed. Because of that, he lowered his shoulders and placed the papers on the round table.
"...fine. Although we're supposed to review our next move..." He muttered but I could tell he was being shy.
But... since I was a 'little busy' in the moment, I urged him to do what I said. A bit hesitant, Fei stood there for a moment before he arrived behind me.
Then - I felt his arms circling around my neck. More like, he was hugging from behind though.
"Like this...?" Fei asked with shaking tone of voice.
Contrary to him, I felt at peace and I nodded, "Un. It's fine like this."
Feeling his warmth, his hesitant and inexperienced arms embracing me, I felt at bliss. My heart was beating fast, my cheeks were hot and yet my mind was as calm as the sea after the storm.
...ah. Seriously... just this alone is enough to nearly bring me to nirvana. I'm head over heel for him... huh?
I raised my hand and touched Fei's arm.
"I never thought we'd do this kind of thing. It feels like I'm dreaming." I whispered.
"...I wouldn't want this to be a dream." Fei commented.
"...yes. Me too, Fei."
I put slight emphasis in my words. In the next moment, Fei's hold over me tightened a bit and I could feel his warm breath tickling my neck from behind.
...if only time stopped. If only we could have all the time in the world to stay like this... I think it'd be wonderful. I can ask for no more.
But... not yet. I still have time. Even if it's not much, I will certainly enjoy this experience and burn it into my memory. There will be many more things waiting for us.
There will be many things to do. Plenty of dreams and wishes are waiting to be granted and I - both of us will fulfill them. Together.
"...Fei, I love you." I whispered.
"...I love you too, Charlotte." Fei replied.
The garden's flowers bloomed. In this season where they flourished endlessly. A warm breeze blew through the garden and carried colorful petals to the blue sky. For the lack of better words...
Ah... the feelings are all in the air.
