209- clash of cultures

It is strange that there are always questions that cannot be answered definitively

In my original world, humans have always been curious, which led them to ask many questions

Where did humans come from?

Are there other intelligent beings besides us?

And many other philosophical questions

But now I am busy with a unique question that is no less important than these cosmic questions

What brought pizza to this world, by the name of the Leaning Tower of Pisa?

I held a slice of pizza and contemplated it with great concentration

Isn't this supposed to be an invention of the Italians?

Is making pizza in another world considered a violation of the intellectual property of the Italian people?

The meal had the same design and ingredients but the only thing that was different was the name, in this world they call it Lavroman

The name was a bit stupid and would definitely cause my tongue to spasm if I tried to repeat it too many times quickly

It was ridiculous as it was like your friend who wants to copy your homework, but you tell him to change some things so that the teacher doesn't suspect you

But even with your warning all that idiot friend did was change the title while he copied and pasted the content without any changes

"This is the sauce..." Amara came carrying a can of sauce and then started putting some of it on the slice of pizza in front of Charlotte

".." Woman you are violating the culture of an entire people here

I watched Amara break all the red lines and put sauce on the pizza

Yes, it is pizza

I won't repeat that weird name every time I talk about this meal

But I think the situation will be fine as long as there is no one carrying the blood of a pizza maker here

Because they might throw her in a pizza oven if they see her doing this.

Amara must have noticed my look as she raised the sauce with a gentle smile, "Would you like some?"

"No, I'm fine..." I replied in the most polite way

This woman was kind enough to invite us to eat at their house

Sitting across from me at the table was Amara's husband... I don't remember his name but it could be Peter something

Peter reached over to grab the last slice of pizza but my hand was much faster than his, so I quickly grabbed the pizza slice.

I saw his expression become confused when the slice of pizza suddenly disappeared from in front of him

Peter looked around quickly and it took him a second to realize that the slice of pizza was in my hand

Which made him look at me with hatred as he tried to maintain the last bit of morality he had that prevented him from attacking me

I smiled arrogantly as I finished the slice of pizza in just two bites

On my side was Charlotte taking small bites of her slice of pizza as she looked at us as if she was watching two children playing with food

"I drew this on Amara's wedding day..."

I turned to Swanson who was standing next to a middle-aged man

This man was Barry Grace, Charlotte's father

Barry's features were average compared to Charlotte's charming appearance , but the dark circles under his eyes and his thin face indicate that life has not been kind to him

Barry ran a small candy store

At the same time, he had a hobby of drawing, and he used this talent to decorate the cakes he made

Barry was currently showing off his paintings to Swanson

I think this guy was excited that someone had shown interest in his art

He reminds me of those miserable painters who no one paid attention to when they were alive

Coming to think of it...could Barry be the reincarnation of Vincent Van Gogh?

I put my elbow on the table and rested my cheek on my palm, admiring the many paintings that adorned the walls of this room

Suddenly I felt a new person arrive at the place

I quickly turned my eyes towards the stairs where a woman came down with heavy steps

"Mom!"

"Mom..."

Amara and Charlotte quickly moved towards the woman and helped her down the stairs

Even Barry stopped his show and looked worriedly at the woman, "Violet? Why did you get out of bed?"

Violet smiled as she looked at me, "I heard that Charlotte's friends came to visit us, how could I miss the opportunity to meet them?"

Violet's gaze was scrutinizing as if she was examining her future son-in-law

Or at least that's what I sensed from her eyes

But that wasn't what I cared about at the moment

Because my focus was on the shivers I felt as soon as I saw Violet

This was a feeling that was all too familiar to me

There was some kind of curse on this woman

Violet approached the table and sat directly in front of me

I could see how beautiful this woman's face was so that it became clear where Charlotte's beautiful features came from, but a quick glance at her thin hands made it clear that there was something wrong with her body

Her hand bones were sticking out as if she hadn't eaten anything in months.

Violet started talking to me and I had to introduce myself for the fifth time today.

During the conversation I was able to deduce what kind of curse Violet had.

It seemed to be a curse that took away the victim's life energy and diverted it to another source.

It wouldn't be polite for me to start asking questions directly now, especially since Swanson was here.

After their attention turned to Swanson, I moved my foot to lightly tap Charlotte's foot.

Charlotte frowned as she looked at me with narrowed eyes.

I pointed my eyes toward the small garden in front of the house.

Luckily, this girl had enough brain cells to understand my signal.

We took advantage of Barry and Violet's preoccupation with gossiping with Swanson about something, so we moved stealthily to head to a more private place.

But I realized that Swanson's attention was on me the entire time, as if he was warning me not to try to escape.

It seemed that Barry and Violet had noticed our movements, yet they pretended not to and continued talking to Swanson

"What...?" Charlotte asked after we reached the garden

"I want to ask about something." I started my investigation with Charlotte while I noticed that there were about a dozen agents standing behind the wall of the house

They must be the agents who are here to monitor me

"..."Has their number doubled or am I imagining it?

Back to our topic, I was able to understand the general outline after asking a few questions

It seems that Violet's illness started ten years ago

Although they visited all the doctors in the city and even traveled to the capital to find out what was wrong with her, all their attempts failed

In the end, they returned to their home and gave up any hope of her recovery.

“What about those dungeons?” I asked about the most important thing I noticed while asking her.

She mentioned something about a type of dungeon near the city.

According to her, Violet used to work as an adventurer hunting monsters before retiring after falling ill.

It seems that she went on a mission to clean up newly discovered dungeons from the monsters inside them.

A year and seven months later, Violet contracted this disease.

All the doctors and even her family ruled out the possibility that the disease was related to those dungeons.

The period between her entering the dungeons and her contracting the disease was very long.

They even didn’t find anything important inside those dungeons, in addition to the rest of the adventurers who came out of there completely healthy.

Hundreds of adventurers have entered those dungeons during dozens of missions, why would Violet be the exception?

“I thought about it too and went there…” Charlotte lowered her head with a tired look, “I combed that entire area for several days but didn’t find any evidence.”

“Okay, I get it.”

Charlotte raised her stern gaze to me, “What do you mean?”

“That your mother is cursed.” I gave her the short answer

“Curse?...” A disappointed expression appeared on her face

She had a small hope but it quickly faded when she received this strange answer

I guess I need to explain the situation to her so she understands, “In my hometown there are historical places that contain curses that cause life energy to be taken away from anyone who dares to enter them, the symptoms are exactly the same as what your mother is suffering from.”

“Really?...” Charlotte’s eyes lit up again when she heard this

“Of course...” I gave her full confirmation of my words, “And through centuries of dealing with these cursed places my family has learned how to get rid of this curse—”

My words were cut off when I felt hands grabbing my shoulders

Then I was shaken violently by Charlotte, “How?...How do we get rid of the curse?”

“Calm down...” That's all I could say as she mercilessly shook me like a milkshake.

Charlotte realized she had gone too far, so she let go of me and took a step back, “Sorry...it’s just....”

“Don’t worry, I understand.” I reassured her with a simple wave, I could see her excitement after finding a straw to grab onto after living in this difficult situation for years.

“There’s some kind of artifact or a site where a curse ritual was performed, it doesn’t matter what it is because all we have to do is find it and destroy it.” I started giving her the information I had

I had suffered from these curses before

The curse that gave me the most headache was the tracking curse that one of the Mithraists had cast on me

It was stressing me out because every time I turned my head I found the enemies right behind me

The problem is that I didn’t even know that this curse was on me

This is one of the dangers of curses, you don’t know that it’s on you until an expert tells you

And that’s what happened to me

If a spiritual expert hadn’t told me about this curse on me, I wouldn’t have realized the situation

“But I searched everywhere.” Charlotte knitted her brows, as she thought of something

“You just didn’t look in the right place.”

“Are you going to help me?” Charlotte asked cautiously, her voice filled with hope

I shrugged, “Of course, why would I bother saying all this if I don’t intend to help you.”

A small smile appeared on her lips in gratitude and some relief.

“But we have a problem…” I looked towards the house’s walls, “The agents assigned to protect me won’t let me go there.”

Charlotte’s smile faded as she realized what he meant.

The agents were monitoring him all the time and intensively after the last incident..

And of course, she was told to keep an eye on him when he was in class.

Her anxiety quickly increased as she realized that the opportunity might slip away.

“Don’t worry, I already have a plan…” I licked my lips as I cooked up a plan in my head.

“…” Why are you looking at me like that?

Charlotte automatically took a step away after seeing his eyes scanning her body in an incorrect manner.
