Chapter Fourteen

The dense jungle was filled with the sounds of Howler monkeys in the tree canopy. The wind was blowing through and rain was pouring from the sky. Alya was walking through the jungle with a chain in her hand. The chain was inscribed with alchemy symbols that the silver metal was now glowing black. The chains broke off into four separate chains that attached themselves to a males ankles and wrists. His metal shackles glowed black and drained any magic that the person was wearing. John had his pajama cloths on they had ripped and were dirty. His black hat sat on his head without any dirt or dust on it. He’s body was visible through the large holes in the now destroyed clothing. His body had fresh pink scars throughout his body that it looked like he was a human jigsaw puzzle.

“Gods, can you walk any slower human?” Alya said with disgust, “We need to get to the river before sundown.”

“Well if you haven’t noticed my body is still trying to heal itself, but these shackles are limiting my ability.” John explained, “You could take them off for a second.”

“Psst, you think I’m that stupid.” She said looking around and finding a place to rest, “There let’s rest for a moment. Don’t think about running.”

Alya went to a tree and took the chain and wrapped the chain around the trunk. She placed a magical lock to keep John from running anywhere.

“Just in case you want to see the jungle.” Alya said, “I’m going to go and scout ahead, I’ll be back in ten minutes. Here take this knife it’s just a knife.”

“Thanks, how about some water.” John asked while looking up, she threw a bottle at him and landed on his lap.

“There save it you’ll need it later.” Ayla said.

She disappeared in a blink of an eye and John was eft alone. The howling was still echoing through the tree top. He thought about the fight and how he felt he’s body begin to heal itself. He let his body remain unconscious and thought that he had gone unnoticed when Ayla came charging through the room. She picked him up and dug her claws into his chest. He opened his eyes and screamed. Ayla let out an amused laugh and knocked him out. They took him and the book and meet another group and took him to the airport. Ayla had arrived alone and was a bloody mess. She boarded a private plane and flown them to South America. The plane was then ditched and the two of them kept from the plane without parachutes. Ayla managed to land on multiple branches until she had landed safely on the ground. John was left to fend for himself, he managed to use his now chained body to catch a branch and pray it held. He ended up with two broken arms that had now healed. Most of his body was now properly healed. He signed and drank from the canteen that sat next to him. He thought what they could possibly be doing here.

From the distance John heard a twig snapping and a low growl. From the bushes a wild boar appeared. Its tusks stood three inches from outside its mouth. The brown and black fur was standing on end. Its small little legs started to run and charged at John.

“Oh, dear.” John said.

With a thrust of his hand the blade was deflected of the right tusk. The boar was surprised and ran back. John let out a small sigh, and looked at his now chipped blade. He throw the knife into the forest, the metallic blade flew across the open air and landed in the heavy dense jungle. He fell to he’s knees and screamed. The howler monkeys began to shout and howl even louder before he’s voice was drowned out. He feel to his back and tried to sleep, but found that the now even louder primates made the single come to life.

“Didn’t I tell you to sit here and not do nothing.” Ayla said in disgust, “What is it now, a small spider, aliens maybe, what could possibly be so important that you had to make them even more louder?”

“Well I was being attacked by a pig, a wild hog I think.” John said it just like Ryan would have, “It doesn’t matter the fact is I was in danger and I needed to kill the thing.”

“So you shouted, and try to kill the them by screaming at them.” She said with a chuckle, she walked to the tree and cut the rope, “Give me your hands.”

She cut the rope with her sword. Her sword was about eight inches long and made with steel. The blade was sharp that the hemp rope fell. She sheathed the blade into her leather cover that swung from her hip. Kneeling down she offered her hand to John. He accepted and the pair stood up.

“So tell me when did you know that I would regenerate?” John asked, “Tell me how much do you know about me?”

Ayla looked John hard In the eyes her blue crystal clear eyes. She squinted and let out a loud laugh. Her posture relaxed and then took some dried ration from her leather pouch. She offered John a piece and he took it. He examined the light brown bar. The oats and dried flour was coated with honey and seeds.

“Well if you can make it to the mark on the map I marked you can have all the answers you want.” Her voice was fading into thin air.

“You cleaver girl.” John said, “Well I guess you must be near or I must be somewhere even my magic can’t hep me.”

“Look at that the cleaver cave man can think.” Ayla said sarcastically.

John walked to the map that had the knife stabbed where the mark was. He took the knife from the ground and wiped the v blade to his pajama bottoms. The blade was then wrapped with a piece from his long p.j. Bottoms. He slipped it into his right pocket. He took the map and tried to cast a small spell. The map glowed a bright red then. Went white hot. The map was instantly repaired but the nap was now to new. He cast another spell and the map glowed white hot then burned up.

“Great now I’m up a creek without a paddle.” John said amazingly, “well I remember where I needed to go I just need to get a reference of where I am.”

John climbed the biggest tree next to him. The tree stood a clear twenty feet straight up. Next to it several other trees made a dense canopy. The vines hung low and birds made their mating calls. He climbed to the middle and took a breather. His body was still recovering and his lungs felt like they had burst into flames. Or they just simply almost ruptured every alveoli. He coughed up blood and fainted. Three minutes later he woke up and felt his chest was stinging like they had fresh oxygen in them for the first time. His eyes teared up not because he was happy or sad no he cried because of the pain that he felt when he tried to take a full deep breath. The right side of his lung collapsed and he fell from the tree. He hit almost every branch he had climbed and with a sick-inning crunch his body was lying there twitching. Bones started to break and snap back together. He jerked with a sharp spam and his upper body stood up straight. He looked up at the tree and just let gravity take hold. His back slammed hard driving the breath from his lungs and destroying more alveoli. He felt his lungs stitch them selves and fill back up with air. That sensation was very intense. What he hated was the intense feeling of electricity coursing through you. John’s body jerked at the thought. He stood up and dusted himself and climbed the tree. He succeeded and looked around gauging from the surrounding he felt he knew where he was but to make certain he summoned a sextant to his hand and to measurements. He calculated that he had two days to get to his location. He jumped from the tree and landed into a jerk pose he let out a loud grunt and fell to his right side. He cried and fell asleep.
