Chapter 21: Comfort from a Grandfather

Chapter 21: Comfort from a Grandfather

It feels kind of cold. The ground feels like ice. My head hurts a lot. It feels like a metal bat hit me. I see nothing but darkness. That’s because my eyes are shut. I slowly open them and blink a couple of times. My eyesight is a bit blurry because of the hit that I’ve felt on my head. I squint and rub my eyes. I open them wide. I groan because my still head hurts. I am in a dark room. It looks like a dungeon. The walls are dark gray and made of stone. They have vines all over them that looked like they grew a couple of years ago. Cracks are on the walls and all over the floor. Ahead of me is a cell door. The bars are made out of thick wood, not metal. I slowly get up on my feet and walk to the cell door. I grab the wooden bars and tug on them while grunting. I step back and angrily kick the cell door. I hurt my right foot from the kick. I am hopping and grunting in pain.

“Ow, ow, ow, ow, that bloody hurt!” I rub my foot.

I peek through the cell door and see a long hallway that is round like a tunnel with Rabaca drawings all over. At the end of the hallway are two Rabacas. One is tall muscular and yellow. The other one is gray tall and chubby. The yellow Rabaca is King Ochinm and the gray Rabaca is King Famernt. They are standing guard in front of two round thick wood doors at the end of the hallway.

The door at the end of the hallway opens. It is Edd, my Rabaca father. He walks towards the dungeon that I am in. I am not very pleased to see him. I turn away and fold my arms.

Edd sighs. “How are you doing?” he asks me.

“Oh just fine, concernin’ that someone just hit my head again!” I snap.

Edd rubs the back of his head. “Umm, that was me, son. I was the one that hit you to knock you out,” he says.

I roll my eyes and drop my head. “Why do we have a bloody dungeon?” I ask.

“In case anyone break’s any laws or commits treason,” answers Edd.

I turn back to Edd while my arms are still folded.

“And what treason have I committed, Edd?” I ask.

“You had a piece of the dark purple crystal. It's treason and forbidden to use the power of the huge sun crystal that hovers over our Realm. Or the huge shadow crystal that the sun crystal changes into at night. I mean, you saw what it did to Dronko. Anyone can turn into a horrible thing like he is. That dark purple crystal takes hold of whoever holds it for too long. My big brother never saw it coming and since you’ve had the dark purple crystal. Well…” Edd stops.

“Well, what?” I ask.

“It’s a good thing that you gave it to that hummingbird. Otherwise, you would have been corrupted by the dark purple crystal. Just like my big brother,” says Edd.

“I only let a bird take it so I can use it latah’ for my plan. I need to restore it to our shadow crystal which is also the sun crystal,” I say.

I drop my arms and shake my head in shame. “Mom had the dark purple crystal all along. She gave it to me and I told her my othah’ plan. I was going to…” I stop for a moment.

I look up at the two Rabaca Kings that are guarding the doors down the hallway.

“I can’t tell you now,” I whisper. “They might be listenin’ to us,” I say.

Edd slowly nods. “And there is another reason why you’re in here,” he says.

I wait for Edd to answer for me. I stomp my foot rapidly.

“Well.” I am impatient.

Edd sighs. “They don’t want you in their way,” he says.

“Who doesn’t want me in their way of what?” I ask.

“The seven Kings and Queens are going to search for the dark purple crystal and kill my big brother. And they don’t want you in their way,” answers Edd.

I quietly chuckle and shake my head. “They don’t want me in their way? Who do they think I am?” I ask.

“My son,” answers Edd.

“I am more than that. I am the son of the Eastah’ Bunny,” I say.

My dad smiles at me and winks his right.

I gasp. “I can do things that no othah’ Rabaca’s can do, right Edd?” I ask.

“Remember the powers that I’ve told you about?” asks Edd.

“Yes. I can control plants, make my Golden Egg shine, and run fastah’ then any othah’ Rabaca,” I answer.

I gasp and search my jacket pockets.

There is nothing in them. “Where’s my Golden Egg?” I am freaking out.

“It’s with Candy at our home village. The village is now being rebuilt,” answers Edd.

I sigh. “That’s a relief,” I say.

King Famernt walks towards us. Edd grabs my shoulders and brings me closer to his ear.

“You can get out of here. Trust yourself to become the next Easter Bunny. Trust the plants.” Edd reaches for my right jacket pocket.

He puts something in it. King Famernt taps onto Edd’s shoulder.

“I’m sorry, but time’s up Edd,” says King Famernt.

Edd lets go of my hooded jacket and wink at me again. I wink back. King Famernt walks through the exit doors with Edd. Edd walks out of the hallway. The doors close. I walk away from the cell door. I pick out the very thing that Edd put in my pocket. It is a white teleporting smoke egg. Edd only gave me one. I could just teleport out of the dungeon and to Trodant Village where Candy is. On the other hand, if I do that, then Candy and I won’t be able to get back home unless we fight the Shadow Rabbits. But that is suicide. And my plan has been done yet. Even if the yellow sun crystal gets restored, I still don’t know how to bring spring back to both Realms.

I let out a loud sigh and kneel. I stare at the white egg. My eyes spot some vines in the cracks in the ground.

I think for a moment. I finally have an idea. I stand back up and think about the plants on the walls and in the ground. I stretch out my paws to control the vines. I open my eyes. The vines begin to move slowly like slithering snakes. I chuckle as I am controlling the vines. I make the vines crawl into the cracks in the walls. The vines are slithering toward the two Kings. The vines are moving on the ceiling too. The two Kings do not notice the vines crawling on the walls and in the ceiling. I make the vines pop out of the walls and the ceiling. They are wrapping the two King's arms, legs, tummies, and mouths. They both struggle and muffle.

I smile at the two Kings. I control more vines to wrap around the cell door. The vines pull onto the cell door and rip it off its hinges. I run out of the dungeon and into the hallway. The two Kings are still muffling as I am coming closer to them.

I smile and shake my head. “I can’t leave you both like this,” I say.

I snap my fingers and move the pants move off of the two King's mouths. The two Kings do not scream or shout for help. They seem kind of scared.

I turn to the gray chubby King.

“Now look, do you want this wintah’ to end or not?” I ask.

The chubby King turns to the yellow muscular King. They both nod. I poke the grey chubby King's belly.

“Then let me do what I have’ta do. Even though I have no idea what I must do,” I say.

The yellow King grunts at me. “Even if you escape this tunnel, you won’t get passed the other Kings that are guarding outside the doors,” he says.

I smile at the yellow King and wrap the vine around his mouth again. I place my paws on my hips and nod.

“Watch me mate,” I say cunningly.

I push the doors wide open and the rest of the Kings are guarding outside. Their backs are facing me. I slowly close the doors. Then turn back at the two Kings that are wrapped in the vines.

“Now look you bunch’a show off Rabaca’s, if you want me to bring back spring again to both Realms, then you need to tell me what the privies Eastah’ Bunny’s did. I know one of you guys must know.” I point at both of the Kings.

“We don’t know. Nobody ever tells us, because we are not chosen to be the Easter Bunny. Only those who were chosen when they were born to know how to stop winter and bring back spring. Only the Easter Bunny knows, or the previous ones,” says the chubby grey King.

I think for a moment about what the chubby king just told me.

Then it hit me. “My grandpa,” I whisper. “My grandpa will know what’a do,” I say.

“No one has seen your grandfather ever since Dronko turned his back on him,” says the chubby King.

The yellow king grunts. “Shut up! Stop telling him these things!” he muffles.

“S-sorry, it’s just that he can control vines. A-and vines have thorns,” stutters the chubby King.

I wave my paws. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.” I drop my paws. “I will nevah’ evah’ control thorns. Besides, only Dronko can control thorns. And I can’t,” I say.

The chubby King sighs with relief. The yellow King growls at me.

“I need to find my grandpa. Do any of you know where he might be?” I ask.

“Ask your father,” answers the chubby King.

I remove the vine off of the yellow Kings mouth.

“Now, if you want me to get rid of wintah’, then let me find out how. I know I can do it,” I say.

“The tree is dying and spring might be lost.” the yellow King drops his head.

“If there is one thing that I’ve learned from my human parents, everythin’ that dies can be reborn again. I will bring the Tree of the Realm back to life if it dies. I promise,” I say.

The two Kings nod. I nod back and walk back to the wooden doors.

“Wait, what about the vines?” asks the yellow King.

I stop in front of the door. “Just tell’em what happened mate. I’m sure they will release you from the vines. But I can’t have you both runnin’ aftah’ me,” I say.

I open the doors and peek. There are still Rabaca Kings guarding the doors. I look around to find Edd. He’s nowhere to be found.

But I do see Deegra with Clover. It looks like they are auguring quietly. I don’t know what they are arguing about. I look up at the sky and the snowstorm is over where we are. I turn back to the guard Kings. I close my eyes and stretch out my paws. I am controlling the flowers and making them grow right under the Kings. The flowers pop out some white pollen. Which does nothing to their senses. It just looks like white fog. Then again, it might be good for a distraction. The Kings are panicking. They can’t see in front of them because of the white pollen that is everywhere. I quietly chuckle and run around the white fog and the Rabaca Kings. I look back to see what building I was in. I was in Deegra castle. It looks just as big as the other castles in Realm with its round shape rooftop and two pillars on both sides.

I run south to and head to Trodant Village.

I made it to Trodant Village as I am panting for breath. Snow is gently falling all over the village. The huts have been rebuilt to their original forms thanks to the Rabaca villagers. But the castle still needs some more work.

I slowly walk into the village to find my home hut. All of the lights in the huts are off and everyone is inside. I avoid stepping on any rocks or sticks.

I finally spot my home hut ahead of me.

A memory of my childhood begins to come back to me. I remember Silver, my mother, tucking me in my grassy bed and my dad, Edd, who told me about my home Realm. I sigh and walk into my home hut. Edd and Silver are sleeping together on a wide grassy bed. I turn to the right and see Candy sleeping on another grassy bed. I smile at her and then I turn back to sleeping Edd. I tiptoe to Edd and tap on his shoulder to gently wake him. Edd moans and turns to me. He slowly opens his eyes and smiles with a sigh.

“I knew you can make it out of there,” he says.

“Thanks to the plants,” I say.

“True,” Edd adds.

“I need you to tell me where my grandpa is,” I say.

“Why?” asks Edd.

“He might know how to stop this wintah’. He can tell me how, unless you know how, Edd,” I answer.

Edd sighs and shakes his head. I am surprised that my Rabaca dad does not know how to stop winter.

“You don’t remembah’ how you did it?” I ask.

“It’s been a long time. And once when we are done doing what we need to do to bring Easter and spring back to the Realms, we forget how to do it when a new Easter Bunny is chosen. But we continue doing our Easter Bunny job until another Rabaca is born. Then that new Easter Bunny takes over our job until another one is chosen,” answers Edd.

“But why the bloody, sorry. I mean, why would the previous Eastah’ Bunnies forget about how to restore springtime?” I ask.

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

Edd sits up on his grassy bed. “Son, we all brought back Easter for many years because we all did it for our good reasons. And our right reasons have made spring come back again every year. When a Rabaca is born from the Easter Bunny and brings back springtime, then that Rabaca will bestow the title and the old Easter Bunny gives up his title. I had my reasons to bring back spring and my father had his reasons as well,” he answers.

Edd rubs my left furry neck. “What’s your reason, son?” he asks.

I drop my head and sigh. “I’m…I’m not so sure yet,” I say.

The front door knocks loudly. Neither of us answers the door. The person who is knocking begins to shout angrily.

“Jake! We know that you’re in there! Open this door right now!” shouted the voice.

“Deegra and Clovah must have followed me here. I can sense them outside.” I panic.

Edd gets off the bed and gently picks up Candy. She is still asleep in my dad’s arms.

“You still have that white egg that I gave to you in the dungeon?” he asks.

I show Edd the white egg from my jacket pocket.

“Listen, Jake, my father might be on Easter Island. I don’t know where exactly. He never told me exactly where he’s living,” says Edd.

Edd hands Candy to me and I take her in my arms.

“I want you to teleport to Easter Island and find my father,” says Edd.

I am worried about Edd and Silver.

“You aint commin’, dad?” I start to get teary.

“I can’t leave my home. No one else is allowed to leave the Rabbit Realm. Only the Easter Bunny or his child can come and go as he pleased. If anyone leaves without permission from the Kings and Queens, then they will be banished,” says my dad.

“But you’re the Eastah’ Bunny, aint you?” I cry.

Edd shakes his head. “I am but I am still old and gave up my powers and responsibilities. You have those powers now and when you bring spring back then I will crown you to become the Easter Bunny. Now go!” he shouts.

I shake my head. “No. No, I won’t leave you. Not again!” My voice is breaking.

“You won’t lose us again. The Golden Egg has shown you the way to your home Realm. It will show you the way again,” says Edd.

“But…” I stutter.

Edd puts his paws on my face. “You will be all right.” He chuckles.

“But I just found you both. I don’t want to leave again.” I cry.

“You must. At least this time we will know you are safe. And we’ll know where you are this time,” says Edd.

I can hear loud banging on the front door. It cannot hold for long. Edd makes me wrap up my fingers around the white egg on my palm.

“Squeeze the white egg and say Easter Island,” he says.

I do not want to say those words. I am very worried about my Rabaca mom and dad. I sigh and tremble with emotion as I look down at the white egg.

Tears on my face. “But, but, dad…” I cry.

The door burst open. Deegra and Clover enter the hut. Clover looks at me and then at the white egg. She smiles but does not smile back. Edd grabs the white egg from my paw, pushes Candy and me away from him, and moves the white egg next to his mouth.

“Easter Island,” he whispers.

Deegra gasps and rabbit ears wiggle. He heard Edd’s words. Edd throws the white egg at Candy and me. It hits my head and lets out an explosion of white smoke. Deegra leaps to Candy and me, but we made it out in time before Deegra even got near us.

Candy and I teleported to Easter Island. We fall onto the ground. There is snow all over the island. I shake my head and wipe the snow off of my face. Candy wakes up and shakes the snow off her head.

“Where are w-we?” she shakes.

I stare at the entire island it is covered in deep snow. Dark gray clouds hover over us. They stretch as far as the eye can see. Snowflakes are falling and creating a blanket of deep snow. Cold wind IS blowing roughly. I shiver in the cold and rub my arms. Even though I have a jacket I still feel very, very, very cold. My rabbit ears are flapping in the cold wind of death. I look at myself and I still have light blue/grey-ish fur. I touch my face and my legs. They still have fur. My tail wiggles and I look at my rabbit feet. I sigh with relief. I am glad that I am still a Rabaca. I turn to Candy she is freezing in the cold.

“W-where are w-we?” she shivers.

I walk up to her and pick her up.

“We’re home, back in the Human Realm,” I answer.

Candy gasps and sees the same blizzard covering everything.

“Is this supposed to be Easter Island?” she asks.

“I’m afraid so.” I mope.

“But it’s snowing. What month is it?” asks Candy.

“It’s still April,” I answer.

“Are we going to be okay?” Candy shivers.

I pant and my eyes widen with fear.

I shake my head to get the snow off of me. “We need to find my Rabaca grandpa,” I say.

“Is that why your Rabaca dad teleported you here?” asks Candy.

“Yes. Now hang on sis.” I put Candy on my back.

I run into the deep snow and the cold wind. I look around as I am running. I cannot see anything, just white snow, and the cold wind. Candy is about to slip off of my back.

I stop running and hold her in my arms. “Hang on Candy, just h-hang on.” I shiver.

“I can’t feel my hands.” Candy shakes her cold hands.

“I know. I can’t feel my f-feet and my long ears. And I have f-fur.” I shake.

I look into Candy’s pocket to find my Golden Egg. It is not in her pocket. It is not in my jacket pocket either. I pant and begin to panic. I look around and there is still no sign of my Golden Egg.

“Crikey! I’ve lost my Golden Egg!” I shout.

Candy is very weak and her face is covered in snow. My jacket and my furry body are also covered in snow. I shake the snow off of me and set Candy on the ground.

“Stay here. I need to find my Golden Egg,” I say.

I sniff in the snow and dig in it too. My paws are numbing, but I am not going to give up until I find my Golden Egg. I stop looking and stand in the snow. I close my eyes and try to think of the Golden Egg. So that it will come to me. I open my eyes and see nothing but more snow. The snowstorm is worse than before.

I hear Candy moaning. I turn to her and she falls to the ground.

“Candy!” I run to her and raise her head.

“Candy, speak to me!” I shout.

Candy lets out a quiet moan. She is shaking and her face looks whiter. A burst of cold wind blows very hard. It feels like icy cold knives on my back.

“Ahhhhh! It’s…so…cold!” I groan loudly.

I cover Candy to keep her warm. But my furry body can’t keep both of us warm for long.

I shiver in the cold. “G-grandpa, help us.” I shake.

I see someone in the blizzard. It is very hard to see who it is. It has long ears and a staff. Or at least that’s what it looks like from my point of view. The person is walking towards us. I assume that it is Dronko. I hope that it isn’t him. Otherwise, we’re dead. I try to get up but I feel very tired and so cold. I fall onto the ground and close my eyes. I try not to fall asleep. But I do I feel very tired and I can still hear everything. I hear footsteps walking towards us. They are getting closer and closer. Someone grabs me and lifts me. My eyes are still closed.

“Hang on mates, we’re almost there.” The person sounds Australian.

His voice sounds like a grizzly bear. My eyes are still closed. I hear a door opening as it creaks. The door shuts and I dose into slumber.

The warmth of indoors is filling my furry body. I am feeling a large comfortable bed. I slowly open my eyes and yawn loudly. I stretch my arms over my head. My sight only lasts for half a second. I am in a log cabin house. The logs are brown with lots of vines on them. I look around and notice a black electric stove with a pot of soup. A silver fridge with two doors is next to the stove. A shelf with flowers in green vases is ahead of the fridge. My blue hooded jacket is hanging near a fireplace with a stone arch. I am in a room and on a bed. This room looks cozy. It has a dark blue leather couch, a red rocking chair, and a flat-screen TV.

Candy is sitting on a wooden chair next to a tall light gray Rabaca.

I sigh and feel relieved. “Thank goodness it aint Dronko,” I whisper.

I can smell Candy’s hot coco red mug with a few marshmallows in it. Candy takes a sip of her drink.

“Wow, this is good.” She giggles.

She takes another sip. “Aren’t you going to have some, old rabbit?” she asks the old light gray Rabaca next to her.

The old Rabaca chuckles and gently shakes his head. “I am a Rabaca. Not a rabbit, little chick,” he says.

I sit up and stand up from the bed. I walk up to the old Rabaca and stand next to him. The old Rabaca turns to me with a smile. His smile looks cute but a little wrinkly. His top ears are dark gray. His fur is light grey, except for his jaw, cheeks, chest, and tummy, which are very light grey. His glasses are round and grey as well. He wears a light brown cowboy hat on his head, a light brown fisherman vest, and a red scarf around his neck.

The old Rabaca chuckles and hugs me.

I hug him back. “Grandpa?” I ask and hope.

“Yes, Jake. I know your name,” he says.

We release our hug and laugh together. I wipe my nose and my eyes. I have happy tears coming from them.

“What’s your name, Grandpa?” I ask.

Candy turns to me. “His name is Tucker. Please don’t laugh at how silly his name sounds. I know I did,” she says.

I chuckle because I think his name is silly. But Grandpa Tucker, the old Rabaca, doesn’t mind my chuckling. I look around the cabin and I feel so warm in it. I pick one of the flowers in one of the green vases. I put it back on the shelf. I sniff around and walk to the cooking pot.

I take one big sniff and exhale loudly. “Is that carrot soup?” I ask.

Grandpa Tucker nods. I smile at Candy and she continues to drink her hot cocoa.

“I thought we Rabaca’s don’t drink or eat sugah’ or sweets?” I ask.

“Oh we do, sometimes. Ten percent on vegetables and two percent on sugah’,” Tucker answers.

The thought of me vomiting after I ate eggs, bacon, and pancakes comes into mind.

“But while I was human I loved unhealthy food and kind’a hated vegetables. And when I turned eighteen I…” Grandpa Tucker raises his paw to stop me.

“Your appetite changed and you vomited aftah’ a few bites of syrup. You could hear many things that sounded so far away, you sensed things that you cannot explain, and you feel responsible for this terrible wintah’ that has come. Then you found the Rabbit Realm, your home realm,” he says.

I stare with a wide jaw. “Your accent. Is it Australian?” I ask.

“I’ve been around in Australia way before you were born, Jake. And the accent of the people that I have been hearin' sort’ a picked up. I sometimes visit Australia to see the kangaroos. I’m kind of a fan of kangaroos. So the accent made me this way,” says Grandpa Tucker.

“Oh crikey!” I laugh. “I have an Australian Grandpa?!” I shout.

I jump only once. I think that it is awesome to have another Australian member in the Rabaca family.

“But how do you know about me? I nevah’ met you,” I ask.

“Aftah’ you were actin’ strange on your eighteenth birthday, Linda asked me for some guidance. I came to her in your neighborhood in Minnesota. I know where she lives because I sometimes visit Linda when she was a teenagah’. She thought that you were changin’ into your Rabaca form. I told her that you were the first baby Rabaca to change into a human baby in the Human Realm. I do not know the reason why you were a human baby. But I knew that your true form was takin’ ovah your human form, kind’ a like puberty, kind’ a. Anyway, the reason why Linda knows me is that she saw me when I was hidin’ eggs in her neighborhood and when I rescued her from a cliff. I was young back then. Linda would not stop followin’ me. I gave runnin’ from Linda and told her about my home Realm, the Rabbit Realm. She wanted to go there, but I told her that only Rabaca’s can entah’ the Rabbit Realm. Aftah’ I told her everythin’ she said that she would keep it a secret, but we all know children. They can’t keep a secret,” says Grandpa Tucker.

I gasp and lost my breath. “It was…” I chuckle. “I was you? You told my Linda Grant about the Rabbit Realm?” I ask.

Grandpa Tucker nods. My smile drops and makes a frown.

“My dad Edd said that you and he did your jobs as the Eastah’ Bunny because you had your good reasons,” I say.

“That is true. I did it for a good reason. I still feel that reason aftah’ all these years,” says Grandpa Tucker.

“What did you feel when you end wintah’ every year in March?” I ask.

Grandpa Tucker sighs, smiles, and looks up.

“I felt the joy, the hope, the laughtah’, and the birth of spring. To see the kids laughin’ with their families, to feel the cool wet rain, to see the beautiful plants growin’ all around, and to feel confident when I was the Eastah’ Bunny. It was a wondah’ful job,” he answers.

I shake my head. “But now those feelin’s that are supposed to spread throughout the Human Realm are gone. The Tree of the Realm is dyin’ as we speak. Wintah’ will nevah’ end, because my dad and my mom nevah’ taught me how to become the Eastah’ Bunny. My dad only taught me how to use my powah’s. I can control plants only in the Rabbit Realm, I command golden light with my Golden Egg, construct many things with plants and flowah’s, and paint like a professional artist with so many eggs.” My voice is breaking.

I slowly walk to the front door and open it. The blizzard is still out there. I pant and let out a sob. I hit the door frame and grunt with frustration.

“But I don’t know how to stop a bloody blizzard!” I shout.

Grandpa Tucker walks up to me. “Those powah’ help you, mate. But it is what you feel inside of why you’re doin’ your job as the Eastah’ Bunny that counts. It’s more than just endin’ wintah’ and havin’ plants grow all over the Human and the Rabbit Realm. It’s what you’re feelin’ and what your reasons are that mattah’ to you,” he says so calmly.

Grandpa Tucker turns to Candy. “Candy, what do you feel when Eastah’ mornin’ comes?” he asks her.

Candy gasps. “I feel the warmth of springtime, and family being close together in the nice outdoors. After my parents left, Jake found me. And even though it snowed on Easter morning, he gave me the most wonderful Easter that I’ve ever had,” she says.

Grandpa Tucker turns back to me. “Now, what is your reason and what do you feel, Jake about Eastah’ day?” he asks.

I sigh and sniff. I feel too emotional to answer. But I swallow my pride.

“Well, to be honest, all this time I was only doin’ it for myself. I wanted to prove to myself that I am more than just Jake Grant. I was selfish and very impatient. I just wanted to get the job ovah’ with. I felt like I was in a hurry to bring back springtime. I just wanted to get it done and forget about anythin’ cells that have to do with the Rabbit Realm. I just wanted to get rid of wintah’ and go home just like I promised.” I cry.

I take a deep breath. “But…” I stare at the snowstorm.

“I finally don’t feel that way anymore. Now since I see wintah’ in my home Realm and the Human Realm, I feel like I have to end wintah’ for now, until Decembah’. I felt the joy, happiness, love, and warmth of spring as I celebrated many Eastah’s with my human family, especially with my new little sistah’. But now I don’t feel selfish anymore.” I step outside. “Now I feel confident. And I know I will bring spring back. Aftah’ all…” I smile.

“I am Jake Grant, the only son of the Eastah Bunny!” I say so proudly.

Then a bright golden beam pops out of the snow. It is so bright that I have to shield my eyes with my paws. The bright golden light is coming from my Golden Egg. The Golden Egg hovers towards me. I smile and chuckle. Grandpa Tucker joins my chuckling. Candy is giggling with joy. I run to my Golden Egg. It hovers over my paws and I slowly grasp it.

“There you are little mate,” I say.

The bright golden light slowly dims into a small one. I laugh and hop into the air. I land in front of the cabin.

“It’s back! My Golden Egg is back and all because I believed in myself!” I laugh.

Grandpa Tucker gently slaps my back.

“Now you know the reason why you goin’ to bring spring back?” he asks.

I nod. “I do now. I’m doin’ it for all the people and Rabacas’ in both Realms,” I say.

I walk out of the cabin and stand in the deep snow. I raise the Golden Egg in the air. I am thinking about the joy, happiness, love, and warmth of springtime. Candy and Grandpa Tucker are standing outside, watching me. I let my Golden Egg shine brightly.

“See you latah’ wintah’.” I chuckle.

The golden light from my Golden Egg slowly changes into a circle. It is around me and is spreading like a water ripple. It does not affect any living creatures, only the snow. The snow around me melts fast into warm water. It splashes and it feels so good. As the golden ripple is growing bigger it is melting the snow in its path. The dark gray clouds are fading away as the blue sky and the sun are finally revealed. The sunbeam is shining in the golden ripple. The snow that is falling from the clouds changes into warm rain. The golden ripple passes the cabin and melts the snow around it. Candy giggles as she feels the wet warm rain. The golden ripple spreads as far as the eye can see. The golden ripple quickly shrinks back into my Golden Egg. I lower the Golden Egg and laugh. I feel the warmth of the spring rain.

“Did it work?” I ask.

Grandpa Tucker, Candy, and I walk into the cabin. Grandpa Tucker turns on the TV. A news anchor man with a black suit looks happy on the news. Behind him are some kids playing in the rain.

“This is such a miracle, here on Easter Island. We are getting reports about the weather. It stopped snowing in Australia, Minnesota, and other warm parts of the world. Winter and snow have melted and warm temperatures are rising. It is such a miracle. Though there are a few places with snow, it seems like the seasons have changed back to normal. Winter is not everywhere anymore!” the anchor man chuckles.

I laugh. “Hello, springtime!” I holler.

Grandpa Tucker, Candy, and I run out of the cabin and into the rain. We are feeling the warmth of the sun and the wet rain. Candy is laughing as she runs up to me and jumps to hug me.

“Jake you did it!” she chuckles.

I hug her back. Grandpa Tucker joins the group hug. We release the hug.

Candy is splashing in the puddles. I look around and watch many flowers popping out of the ground.

“I did it, I finally did it!” I holler.

“Now do you want to go back home?” asks Grandpa Tucker.

I nod. “I do, both of my homes, the one in Minnesota and the one in the Rabbit Realm too. Both of them are my homes,” I say.

I turn to Candy and watch her playing in the puddles. “This is what I want to see every day. Not only on Eastah’,” I say.

“And you can. But now since you have restored springtime, what will you do now?” asks Grandpa Tucker.

I sigh through my nose. “I need to do somethin’ in the Rabbit Realm. I need you to take care of Candy for me while I am gone, but I’ll be back very soon,” I say.

“But Jake…” says Grandpa Tucker.

“No Grandpa Tuckah’, I don’t want candy to get caught up with my problems anymore. I need you to look aftah’ her,” I say.

I turn around and Candy stands right in front of me. She heard everything.

“Candy, I know that you want to come with me, but not this time,” I say.

Candy nods. “I know what you have to do. And I will only be in the way. So it’s okay. I’ll be fine. You go and do your plan. I’ll pray for you,” she says.

I smile and hug Candy for understanding.

“Thank you for believin’ in me. And I’m so glad I found you in the park.” My voice breaks.

“You are most welcome,” says Candy.

“If it wasn’t for you little sis, I would have nevah’ brought back spring. You told me the good feelin’s of Eastah’ that reminded me what Eastah’ is really about,” I say.

“You could have never done all this without my help,” says Candy.

We release our hug. I run to grab my jacket, my purple satchel, and my stuff. I run out of the cabin. I put my Golden Egg on the tip of my staff. I stop and turn around to face Candy and Grandpa Tucker.

“Happy Eastah!” I holler.

I run away from Candy and Grandpa Tucker. Candy sighs and smiles.

“Can I have some more Hot Coco?” she asks Grandpa Tucker.

Grandpa Tucker nods with a smile. They walk into the cabin.

Grandpa Tucker gasps and pushes Candy behind him. A tall dark gray Rabaca is sitting next to the fireplace, drinking some hot cocoa.

“I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve just drunk the last hot cocoa,” he says.

Grandpa Tucker steps back with Candy behind him.

“What do you want, Dronko?” he asks.

Dronko takes a sip from the cup and spits the hot cocoa into the fireplace. He shatters the cup onto the wooden floor.

Dronko stares at Candy and points. “I want her,” he growls.
