The awful cold night fills the sky all over Minnesota. The snow storms are getting worse. A cold wind is blowing roughly in the air and the clouds. Snowflakes as big as quarters are falling all over Minnesota. People are shoveling the snow to take their cars for transport. But the snow is still falling.
Some cars are in traffic and honking at each other. People are yelling loudly with anger because they are impatient about where they need to go. Some people are out of their cars and are helping others move their vehicles. But the snow keeps on blowing from the terrible blizzard. The cold wind blows harder. It blinds the road ahead. Even windshield wipers are not helping.
Linda and Bryan are stuck in slow traffic. They just left the supermarket to get some more food and firewood. But there was barely any food and warm gas for anyone at the store because the planes and trains cannot transport food and supplies to any continent. The four boys are back at Linda and Bryan's Spring Foster Care home.
Linda just hired a babysitter to look after the four boys. Bryan and Linda are in their car. Linda is very worried about Jake and Candy. They just read the note that they found on Jake's bed. Bryan is very worried but more upset. Bryan sighs loudly and his fingers wiggle on the stirring wheel. Linda stares at the blizzard on the left side of the car window. She shakes her head and feels guilty. Bryan turns to Linda. He clears his throat and turns on the radio.
There is no music playing. It is just the news saying more about the snowstorm. Bryan changes the station a couple of times. But they all say stuff about the terrible snowstorm. Each channel has different languages. Bryan changes back to the English Channel. The news is saying more stuff about the snowstorm. They have been saying it for the last few days.
“The news forecast…” says the news. “This is very unpredictable, about whether or not ceasing. We have no more information to say only this. Supply your food, stay indoors, keep warm, and don’t go outside. The snow storm is not only happening in Minnesota, but also Egypt, Ireland, Hawaii, and many other countries too. Greenland and Easter Island have the worst of it. Eight feet of snow is covering most of Easter Island and Greenland. The worse might not come, but we do hope that the snow storms will cease tomorrow or any time soon. Now for the accidents in the snowstorm. In Minnesota there is a car crash south of east…” Bryan turns off the radio and sighs loudly.
“They don’t play music anymore on my favorite station,” he complains.
Linda shakes her head. “Do you think that our song will be played on the station after the snowstorm is gone? You know, just to lighten things up a bit?” she asks.
Bryan scoffs and shakes his head. “If it stops,” he says.
Linda turns to Bryan and sighs. “You don’t believe that this winter will end, do you?” she asks.
“I do believe it will end. I just want the news to say when it will end,” answers Bryan.
“Well I believe what Jake wrote in his letter for us,” says Linda.
“What is your point?” asks Bryan.
“You’ll think I’m crazy after I tell you,” answers Linda.
Bryan sighs and shakes his head. “Now don’t tell me that you believe what he wrote in that letter?” he asks.
Linda turns away from Bryan. “I think Jake is looking for something on Easter Island,” she answers.
“But why did Candy have to go with Jake?” asks Bryan.
“I don’t know. Maybe she had her reasons,” answers Linda.
“Well I hope they return home very soon,” says Bryan.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Not in this storm they can’t,” says Linda.
The car stops in the traffic. All of the cars in the traffic have stopped.
Bryan hits his car horn and grunts. “Come on!” he shouts.
“Don’t worry. We’ll be home in no time,” says Linda.
Bryan hits the steering wheel with frustration. “If we did get home at eleven PM, then we need to pay the babysitter twice what we agreed on. And I don’t have enough money to pay double, plus we have to keep going to the store for more food and supplies, plus I can’t afford another babysitter, plus Jake and Candy are in Easter Island, where the worst is happening in this terrible blizzard!” Bryan boasts.
Linda pats Bryan’s back to calm him. “Don’t worry, the storm will stop. And when it does, our son and daughter will return. Jake’s letter said that they will return,” she says.
“The letter also said that they do come home that winter will be over and it’s been going on for at least a week. And it gets worse day after day. It seems like something doesn’t want Jake or Candy coming back home,” says Bryan.
“I believe that they found something that will stop this blizzard,” says Linda.
Bryan rubs his head and sighs loudly. “Honey, don’t start,” he says.
“Why not?” asks Linda.
“Because it’s not real!” he bellows.
“I know it’s real,” says Linda.
“Oh please! Just because some guy in a tall rabbit costume told you when you were little, doesn’t mean it’s real!” shouts Bryan.
“I know what I saw when I heard the story. I remember it all too well,” says Linda.
“You need to focus on something more real!” shouts Bryan.
“Like what, this terrible blizzard that you think will never end?!” Linda shouts back.
“No! I mean about you never giving birth to a child!” shouts Bryan.
Linda’s eyes are wide and her lips tremble. She gets out of the car and slams the door. Bryan hits himself on the head.
“Stupid!” he whispers.
Bryan gets out of the car and walks around it to Linda. They both are standing in the blizzard. Bryan places his arm on Linda’s shoulder. Linda feels like she’s going to cry, but she holds it back. Bryan kisses Linda's face. “Honey, I’m sorry,” he says.
Linda is still upset after what Bryan just said about not having a child.
“It’s just that,” Bryan stops for a moment. “How do you know that it’s real?” he asks.
Linda sighs turn to Bryan and smiles. “Because of all of the strange things that Jake has been through all his life,” answers Linda.
“Like what?” asks Bryan.
“Like the way, he paints eggs like a professional artist. I mean no one taught him how to paint. He hides eggs well. I mean it took the kids over an hour to find all of the eggs. And when he vomited after one bite of my sugar pancakes, I knew some change was happening,” answers Linda.
“He ate breakfast like a pig. I guess he was going too far on the food and I was kind of hard on him,” says Bryan.
“But Dr. Millard said that Jake needs to only eat vegetables. Mostly carrots,” says Linda.
Bryan scoffs. “Linda, Jake is not a rabbit or a bunny, if that is what you were thinking,” he says.
“We did find him in a tree raft when we lived in Australia. And a tall rabbit did tell me about his home Realm when I was little,” says Linda.
“So you’re saying that our son is a rabbit?” asks Bryan.
“I’m just saying it might not be a coincidence about us finding Jake. I do believe that Jake has found the Rabbit Realm,” answers Linda.
“I want to believe. It’s just that I only think that kids believe in this fable stuff. I am an adult. And so are you,” says Bryan.
“I know I am. It’s just that whenever Easter morning comes, that’s when winter ends,” says Linda.
Bryan chuckles. “Winter ends on March twentieth, it’s the Spring Equinox. I’ve read about it online after I read Jake's letter,” says Bryan.
Linda smiles and lets out a chuckle. Bryan smiles and chuckles back.
“Why did you tell our adopted children about that place and that tall Rabbit?” asks Bryan.
“I want them to believe in hope,” asks Linda.
“And what does that has to do with a story of a Realm with a bunch of tall rabbits?” asks Bryan.
“The Rabbit Realm is more than just a home for tall rabbits. It’s a place where spring begins and spreads all over this Realm. The Easter Bunny may or may not exist. But I know that there is a place where spring begins and spreads throughout the entire world. I remember all of the words so very well from the Easter Bunny when I was little. I know that Jake and Candy found that Realm. Why else would Jake say something about winter ending when he will return?” asks Linda.
Bryan sighs and looks up at the dark gray clouds. “You think that Jake will end this winter?” he asks.
“I believe that Jake will end this winter because he’s not our son,” answers Linda.
Bryan looks back at Linda. “You think that Jake came from this Rabbit Realm?” asks Bryan.
Linda nods. “It’s possible,” she answers.
A loud honk echoes in front of Linda and Bryan’s car. Bryan turns around and looks ahead of the traffic. The traffic is now clearing.
“Let’s go home,” he says.
Linda and Bryan get in the car and begin to carefully drive on the road. The snowstorm keeps on coming. It makes it harder for Bryan to drive, but he is very careful.
“I hope you’re right about Jake,” he says.
“I know I am,” says Linda.
