So, already hit the first, big, snag in getting these little guys more learned and in a way that's easy to pass on to future generations. We don't have anything to really write on, and I don't think they even have a written language to begin with. It's quite a set back, but, not one that can't be overcome, but man oh man, could I REALLY use some trees, or even just palms to get the fronds from. The grasses and yucca likes are nice and all but, they do grow pretty slow, and with the not-agave I don't want to use the only, sure, food source just to make paper or parchment. Papyrus would be so handy, but, I think that requires more of a river delta to grow in than some random oasis in the middle of no where.
Poppit is, slowly, helping me get more information about the area surrounding my domain, but...most of the information I get from them is if things are, or aren't, tasty or seemingly dangerous. I might need to send out skinkles to start looking around the surrounding area as well, but while that's being done...perhaps setting up a mind of some sort will help for now, at least a way to get something worth while so that if we come across other people we have something to trade with.
"So, Vekla, I do have some ideas on how to deal with that issue of recording knowledge but we need resources we don't have here, so for now, that's going on the back burner. I do need Vahlu to start exploring and reporting on the area surrounding my domain as knowing what surrounds us will help as well, as we'll know what resources are, or aren't available. Poppit helps for noticing things like wild animals or dangerous areas, but well...they don't really have the same sense of 'this is important' as you, or I would, no offense lil buddy." (Curator)
My 'personal guard' Poppit would just give my core what feels like an indignant look before nodding and laying back down. Seems I touched a nerve, but hey, they are supposed to be the Guardian of my domain, not the 'finder of all the things' after all!
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"That may be a good idea, take stock of what you have before trying to solve a problem that isn't life or death. Vahlu is still....hesitant at our place here, so giving him a goal where he feels he is helping our people stay safe and provided for will likely help." (Vekla)
"Actually, that gives me an idea, mind fetching me both of the brothers? One still has no name, and both could use titles that will help everyone, no?" (Curator)

Almost taken aback at the sudden request, it'd take a moment for me to process what's been said. Curator is going to name both the chieftain, and give both of them titles as well. That is, dangerous, that's alot of mana to spend after all!
"Curator, I'm sorry if this seems like I doubt you but...that is a large amount of mana to spend, are you sure it's wise to spend such mana now, you do have a few rings, but....still, that seems like it will make you run low." (Vekla)
"Ah, no worries there Vekla. You only speak up cause ya care about my well being, and, well, I've found that teaching y'all to the point of understanding things actually gets me more mana. It makes sense since I was told I'm an aspect of knowledge. So I'll get it back soon enough, big thing for now though is to help cement roles and goals early on. Vahlu knows how to hunt, search, and forage, so I won't have to teach him much to get him up to speed on continuing to do so, and the chieftain will need to know how to manage logistics, and start learning the basics of running a settlement. So I will get plenty back, in time, but...ah, you likely don't have any sayings that would make sense then. What I was...before, we had a saying to so good seed lest your fields lay fallow, and even things like planting trees you'll never see the shade of which I don't think applies to me anymore." (Curator)
Breathing a sigh of relief, I'd nod in response. It seems my worries were unfounded, and more importantly, Curator understood that it wasn't insubordination rather just concern for it's well being. After all, if it were to disappear, what would happen to those of us left behind.
"As you say, I will go fetch them, and will return shortly." (Vekla)

Watching Vekla scamper off like I can't help but be touched by the fact that he actually seems to care beyond just what he directly gets out of things. That's good, hopefully, others will be like that too. Now then, Vahlu is the chieftain's brother, and I named the former shaman Vekla....maybe another 'Va' type name for the chieftain? Hmmm...titles are easy, for the chieftain, he will be my Steward, the one who maintains and plans for the needs of those in my domain, where as Vahlu should be our chief Forager. While it usually has to do with food, to forage is 'to wander in search of' so a forager would be one who wanders in search of things, food being one sure, but not the only thing!
Now then...what should we call the chieftain....
