Chapter 2 - It's good to have friends!

'So it's night time I guess, unless this place is even more bizarre than back home, it's hard to tell without a frame of reference.'

As I ponder my bizarre situation, I'd...see, or maybe feel movement. Looking at this disturbance I'd see for lack of a better term, a scorpion that doesn't look quite right, something about it's proportions are off, if I could take a closer look I could figure it out I bet. With that simple thought, and desire, my view would kind of...zoom in I guess, letting me REALLY see that thing up close and personal. It's very clearly an arachnid with pinchers, we aren't near water, and no real notable tail, I guess that makes it a pseudoscorpion, as there's no way it's a crab, and we are way to far from water to have it be a lobster or crawfish, well, I think anyway. Taking a moment or two more to watch my new, almost pudgy looking, friend skitter about and use it's almost delicate looking pinchers to pull small insects from the sand I would try to look around more as an idle thought strikes me.

'Hmmm....I wonder....if a sigh earlier changed this flower, what would happen if I were to blow on my little arachnid friend there?'

Pondering that I would decide to first get my bearings before trying to experiment any, after all, it wouldn't do to try something and causing changes around me before I know what the 'status quo' is! Also, would be nice to get a hand on this new perspective and perception works. It's clearly night as that lil critter wouldn't be out in the day, unless the rules for scorpions and such are completely different but...that wouldn't be a surprise would it, I'm now a sparkly rock after all!

As my gaze sweeps over the area I can see, there's some other, sparse plant, and a damp, shallow, divot in the sand indicates that this very well might be the start of an oasis in this otherwise dusty and dry locale.

'Some grasses, what looks like yucca plants. My cactus looks cool though, all coiled up like that, makes it look like a spiky snake almost!'

Pleased with my basic understanding of the area I find myself looking back at the lil scuttly friend as it makes it's way around the sand, slowly getting closer to my cactus home. Suddenly stopping it would turn to face exactly where I'm watching it from, almost like it's staring at me in the eyes. Moving my view to try and see if it's got full on radial vision, it would follow that shift in perspective still watching *me*.

'Huh, smart lil fellah ain'tcha. And with that pudgy thorax and the awkwardly cute way ya move, makes me think of Babe.'

With that thought I would start to mentally chuckle before feeling that same feeling as when I sighed out earlier, the feeling not unlike after a long days work when you made such great progress and the feel good feeling starts to fade, I would still watch my only companion in this harsh climate as it grows rapidly, more than doubling in size in mere moments, what was once a lil porker of an arachnid no bigger than a pebble, now being easily the size of a shooter marble. Looking to myself I'd notice the sparkling specs in me have faded a good bit, only the ocasional glimmer showing, almost like shooting stars in the night sky, before returning my attention to my lil buddy.

'Oofda, not quite sure what happened there, but it looks like you made out like a bandit on whatever it was. Ah well, what's done i-'

Suddenly stopping I'd notice two things firstly, the little fella looks actually confused as it watches me. The second being that, it now has some rather distinct coloring upon it, as every other band of it's...abdomen I guess is the closest word, I know the correct term starts with a t but never can quite recall it, is now the same navy blue of my new gem 'self'.

And then, it speaks.

"Tergit is the word, oh bestower of mind. How can I, the most humble and studious Babe, best support your endeavors?"

'It can talk, holy shit it can talk. And it's name is Babe? What kind of coincidence is that. Also, 'bestower of mind', is that...me some how? That won't do, my name is.....wait...what was my name again?'

As my thoughts essentially scramble from a mix of shock, joy at some one to talk with at least, humor at the presumed coincidence and all the other emotions it would all suddenly stop as my new little friend wavers upon his little legs, pincher cradling his head.

"Too much, too fast, oh bestower of mind. I beseech you to kindly slow your thoughts." it would call out, bringing my entire train of thought to a rapid and screeching halt as it steadies it's self. "Thank you. Now, to your earlier lines of thinking, yes, I can speak as you have bestowed me with a name and as such a portion of your essence and knowledge. Next, I am a female, not an it, so please, if not using the name of Babe you bestowed upon me, kindly refer to me in the feminine sense. Yes, I am referring to you when I say bestower of mind. Lastly, I do not know what your name is either, if you no longer remember it, and I, your humblest of servants, have never heard it, perhaps a new name would be the most ideal course of action."

'Yanno what Babe, that's not a bad idea. A new way to live, a new place to live with new folks to meet and get to know, a new name is a great idea! The big question is, do I go with something hoity toity, something more down to earth, maybe literal or perhaps metaphorical. Hmmmmmm this will be quite a decision to make!'

Doing it's...her...best approximation of a nod, Babe would respond "That it is, just please, do not focus your thoughts on me as you ponder such. Even just that fraction of knowledge I have received at those few questions has been enough to make my mind feel as though it may burst like an over stuffed grub. I shudder to think of what may happen should all of that knowledge focus upon me as you contemplate!"

'Fair point. That said, what can you tell me of this place, I'm as new to it, as speech is to you I'd bet! Oh, and if you want to be closer to the physical me, just climb the snake-tus, you'll find me in it's flower!'

That brief dialog done, I'd watch as my new friendly arthropod climbs the cactus I find myself calling 'home' for the time being. Stopping occasionally she would manage to snap some gnat like things out of the air to eat. Each time she does a very small amount of energy would flush into me, like it had earlier resulting in me giving a mental chuckle. Seems I'm not the only 'glutton' around here, and if her having a snack helps me too, I think Babe is going to end up quite plump as time goes on!
