Looking out as far as I can while waiting for my new lil friend to make their way up the cactus I can't help but notice the lightening of the horizon. It's strange really, how I can see everything with such clarity in the areas I can see like it's mid day, even if it's the middle of the night, but can also see when the sun is starting to rise as an indicator.
'Here comes the sun doo da doo da' I'd hum to myself with a chuckle as the horizon slowly goes from the pale gray of pre-dawn to the pinks and violets of the light properly reaching out. 'Hey, Babe, being out in the sunlight is bad for you isn't it?' with some concern for my first, and currently only, companion in this new, strange, situation.
"If I were to stay out in it, fully exposed, for a good amount of time, yes. However, I should be able to get enough shade by taking refuge in the shadow of that flower atop this...I believe you called it 'snake-tus'?"
'Good to hear, and yeah, I remember reading some where that it's easier to remember things as a memetic function of things you are familiar with. Cactus looks like a coiled snake, so, snake-tus fits well. Now then, what do you know of this place, anything I should be cautious of, or keep an eye out for?'
"It is still early in the day, but the wind feels calm, so we would likely not need to be concerned with a sandstorm. Otherwise the next biggest danger would be the sun, as for me I could dry out if left directly under it for too long. Then there are the furred tunneling horrors that would try to eat me, however, they cannot climb, so up here I am much more safe. Lastly there are various scaled ones that would also attempt to make me a meal, and, depending on what you look like, may try to grab you as well."
'Thanks for that info, if you need something of me, just...let me know, I'll do what I can!'
With that, it's time to see what else I can do, armed with some basic knowledge of things to watch out for. Furred tunneling horrors makes me think of some kind of mole or similar, who knows how big it would be, as my little friend was much smaller. Scaled ones makes me think some kind of lizard, or maybe skink or actual snake. Hmmm....that might be more of a problem as they'd have no problem crawling up here. I don't wanna try to change anything on my perch...just yet anyway, so lets try this.

Shifting my focus onto what looks like an empty spot of sand I would imagine myself scooping it in hands I don't have and tossing it aside. While it doesn't follow that exact motion, I would watch in fascination as a small divot of sand is just removed and suddenly get the sensation like I'd just ate. Looking at myself again, I see quite a bit more of that sparkling once again, this time however some of it would be collecting into a still flowing band against my natural ring shape. Chalking that up as something to contemplate later, I'd focus further on myself and 'feel' that sand kind of just...floating in a place of nothingness but still there.
-So...I've got some sort of...hammer space to store things in, that's...very very useful now that I think about it, the possibilities of that will need to be explored later, but for now, lets see about taking things out of it.-
Looking to the base of my snake-tus I would visualize myself pouring sand out along the base, and, with an almost giddy glee see a small mound of sand pour out and that feeling of fullness would fade. Recalling the grasses I'd noticed sprouting near that seeping spring, I'd pull a few blades into that pocket space by visualizing plucking it and sticking it in a bag. Doing so a few times from each tuft to keep from causing long term damage to any of the plants.
-Now then, if I can pick things up, pluck things, and store things, lets see what we can do to manipulate things beyond this, man I am GLAD I took that personal development course in basket weaving now!-
Starting with the longest strand, I would carefully pull it out only to work it into a ring shape up near my flower. Like a circlet of grass, I'd carefully loop and spin it forming a tight band, and a base to work from. Pulling that 'ring' back into my little pocket I would start adding to it, starting with a little arch way, facing downward and about twice the size of Babe. With the frame work in place, I'd really start to work. Adding and weaving all the grass that'd been grabbed I'd mentally smile at my handy work before checking in on my little friend, now close to the top as the first rays of light properly start to shine.
'Hey, Babe, I hope your ready to see something nifty!'
Without any additional warning or fanfare, I'd place that fairly rough grass basket cap over the top of the snake-tus, covering myself, the flower and quite comically giving it more of a mushroom like look. With a final quick thought I'd pluck some spines from various points on this succulent and carefully add them around the 'doorway' into the new 'home' I've woven, pointing outward to hopefully discourage any uninvited guests.
'Now you don't need to worry about scuttling around the flower to stay out of the sun, and we're both safer!'
