Sun Prepping - Ch. 30

Sun Prepping - Ch. 30

Soon, I will be able to get out of this cave and see the vast world outside. I was fully expecting to see knights, wizards, princesses and the like but when I met Gothalyn and saw she was wearing somewhat modern clothing, minus all the rips and tears her clothing had.

I am scared of this world's semi-advanced humanity especially since they also seem to have powers but I am also very curious if I could at least live a similar life to my old one. I’m not blind to the fact that I’m a tentacle monster instead I’m blind by the fact that this world might have internet; my actual conversations with Gothalyn were limited, and the rock ones were extremely terrible at describing anything but I did figure out that smart phones exist or at least something else shaped like it, which means the internet must exist! I don’t think the internet is worth abandoning Cake and Kiwi but hopefully Gothalyn is more friendly when I exit this cave with Cake and Kiwi.

‘ZzzZzz,’ Kiwi’s sleeping noises come through the mental link as Cake carries Kiwi toward the shallow caves filled with monsters.

‘Meister, would you like me to wake Kiwi?’ Cake asks.

‘Nah, it’s fine it’s not like we are really doing anything right now,’ I say over the mental link.

*snip*

Cake agrees with me, and we keep walking toward the shallow caves. I start to spot monsters much earlier than I expected like we aren’t even close to the shallow caves. Why are there so many monsters?! Not that I’m complaining I should be able to kill anything with Cake as long as it’s not a nest monster.

That does not make killing all these monster’s any easier; there must be at least 100 of them fighting much closer to hole base than I would like.

‘ZzzZzz,’ Kiwi sleeps wrapped around Cake’s claw.

How can you be sleeping in this situation and on a claw of all places that’s like sleeping on a bed of nails.

‘Kiwi! Get up, we have to kill these monsters!’

I watch as Kiwi seems to bolt up and stares at the monsters fighting down the tunnel.

‘Kill. Then. Sleep.’ Kiwi tries to use its basic grammar to form sentences, basically saying, “I need to kill those monsters to sleep,”

*shink*

Kiwi’s seemingly activates her Scythe Splitter as her rocky forelimbs split down the middle like a cracked rock adding two more sharp limbs giving Kiwi a total of four forearms.

That was quite possibly the coolest thing I ever have ever witnessed but before we can attack all those monsters I have something I need to do before I let Cake and Kiwi enter the battle.

As Kiwi and Cake are both about to barge into the ongoing battle of toads and lizards in front of us, I stop them and chuck three flesh grenades at the monsters battling it out.

The grenades seperate off my body and fly through the air, bubbling and glowing trying to contain the explosive energy inside for a few more seconds. Those few seconds pass and they land next to a micro raptor and toad battling it out.

Both the toad and microraptor don’t realize what those fleshy balls do...well, until it exploded, that is, hopefully they figured it out after they got turned into a pool of blood by the power behind it.

*B-B-BOOM!*

Thousands of draining spike pieces fly out of those grenades at high speeds and impale themselves into lizards, toads, microraptors, crows, wall, floor, and the ceiling.

An important part being the ceiling since a crack along it has started to form and it begins to fall apart and land on the heads of the monsters beneath it before the ceiling gives up and collapses causing a tunnel collapse on top of the monsters, killing them instantly. How do I know they died instantly.

…that's how.

How weak was that ceiling that it came crashing down upon all those monsters just from my grenades?!

[You have been awarded a random free Perk due to your achievement, Multi-Kill x50, the perk is called [The Unknown Variable]

-The Unknown Variable-

[A random mutation at a random time will gain a random anomalous secondary ability that can greatly range in power. Only one mutation can gain an anomalous secondary ability at a time and once it randomizes again, the secondary power you gained from before will be lost forever. May the luckiest monster win!]

Guh...that’s new. I still can’t believe I killed all those monsters just by throwing a few grenades and this perk is pretty trash, like at a random time that could just mean in a million years.

“What?! You absolute MORON!! That thing has the potential to completely change or even shut me down completely!”

So? It’s not like it’s permanent and you could do with being shut off for a while and even if it does change you it will just be an extra ability. What’s bad about that not to mention it probably won't even activate in my lifetime.

“There is no advanced description of that terrible perk! There’s nothing else to understand! You don’t even understand what that means do you...you stupid cephalopod.”

That’s kinda rude! I know there is an advanced description that has a bunch of random facts about the mutation/perk, I just never bothered to look again, after you brain blasted me with it that one time.

“I’m surprised you actually figured out that much but I will tell you that I didn't ever give you the Advanced Description of anything, the highest description rank you have ever seen was [Slightly Advanced] which is the highest description rank that I can give to you and you could barely understand the categories that the description is divided into. Which is at least better than those walking corpses you just killed, even if it is by a fraction of a nanometer.”

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Explain quicker or I will mute you and by quicker I do not mean talking faster.

“I wasn’t going to do that anyway, but in short an advanced description allows me to look at all the specifics that are left out of your simpleton description, such as that thing you infected that human female that increases any existing positive feelings toward you, and this perk has none of that which is very concerni...” I cut off GagOs.

WAIT! STOP! STOP! Did me stabbing her brain really do that?! Why didn’t they include that in the basic description!

“They didn’t include it because it’s extremely useless most of the time. Since it only applies to organisms that can support compassion and if they do support compassion they have to apply it to you, which is practically impossible since you are one of the most vile things I can think of and on top of that if they have any memories of the fact that you went into their brain, they will have a negative interpretation of you if they didn’t already or die in the first place,” GagOs says to me as if I should already know this. “Back to your previous question…”

I try to listen to GagOs explain the advanced description but my world has been shattered apart after GagOs told me that Gothalyn basically is not only a weirdo but a slightly brainwashed weirdo but I end up focusing on the monsters that I crushed in the tunnel collapse.

The monsters that survive on this side of the collapse are still fighting, and it’s time us to clean up the rest of them.

‘Alright let's go finish them off!’

Kiwi starts to move before I even finish my mental sentence and it has already started slicing and dicing to try and finish the monsters as fast as possible most likely because Kiwi wants to sleep some more.

I stick a draining spike into each of the monsters and flesh flash when thing start to get dicey, I also have to help Kiwi quite a bit because it doesn’t even bother to dodge most of the time since it would rather focus on killing as fast as possible.

[You have gained 8 Biomass]

Cake is on her to the left dealing with three small lizards that are hissing at her, Cake just stabs a leg into each of them killing them instantly.

[You have gained 11 Biomass]

I can’t believe I used to want to conquer those stupid lizards. They aren’t even worth conquering, maybe evolving a lizard in a lizard monster girl like what I am currently trying to do again with Kiwi. If Kiwi doesn’t kill itself trying to rush through these monsters first!

‘Kiwi you have to dodge or block their attacks, don't just attack as fast as possible!’ I mentally send.

‘Sorry. Maistear,’ Kiwi says sleepily and slows down its attacks to prepare to dodge an upcoming attack from a micro raptor on Kiwi’s right. Kiwi dodges to the left and quickly combines two of her right forearms into one strong one and digs into the micro raptors neck as it passes Kiwi.

That was amazing! Why doesn’t Kiwi just do that? Is sleep that important to Kiwi that it won’t even bother dodging unless I say so! That’s not the worst problem to have since I can just order Kiwi to dodge attacks.

‘Good job, Kiwi! Make sure to keep doing that otherwise I’ll have to uhm… give you less time to sleep,’ I tell Kiwi.

A shiver runs down Kiwi’s body at those words and the mantis freezes in place before responding.

‘Yes...yes Maistear!’ Kiwi responds a little scared and starts to dodge attacks and counterattack and we eventually end up killing all of the remaining monsters on this side as I pull my spiked tendril out of a toad's body.

[You have gained 9 Biomass]

“...and that’s why you are a failure of a cephalopod.” GagOs ends off her speech.

What?! GagOs you were still talking? I completely forgot you were talking, also it’s a bit unusual of you to help me that easily.

“...” GagOs remains silent.

That’s very unusual, but I’m just going to assume that you were telling me about the whole advanced description containing information about a perk that didn’t make it into a basic description because it’s too specific or something along those lines.

“That is a very simplistic way to put it,” GagOs says.

Alright I’m correct, now it’s time for the feast! I’ll put GagOs behind me and eat.

‘Cake make sure to upgrade your shell this time, Kiwi upgrade your forearms,’ I tell them.

‘Yes, Meister.’

‘Yes, Maistear.’

I’m obviously going to upgrade my Radar Sense: Dimmer.

[Confirmed using 75 Biomass, remaining amount 80

Radar Sense: Dimmer (Extremely Weak)-> (Max)

[Choose One Mutation Upgrade To Advance for Radar Sense.]

[Clarity (+)]

[Distance (+)]

[Dimmer (+)]

Last time I asked Cake about this she was still barely able to speak so I guess I’ll ask again what happened after I chose to upgrade her Legs.

‘Cake, do you remember when I upgraded your legs a little bit ago. Can you tell me what changed after I got that upgrade?’ I ask Cake.

‘Of course Meister, after you upgraded me. It was no longer maxed out, and I was able to continue upgrading it.’

Okay, that seems pretty simple. I guess if that’s the case I’m not going to upgrade clarity because I am more than happy with my clarity as of right now although it could be useful around the edges of my vision it wouldn’t be as useful as the other two. Distance would be a solid way to go since I could increase the distance I would be able to see. Dimmer might also be good since it would really help my inability to see in light.

Also, I'll technically be staring at the sun all the time on the surface since my vision is in 360 degrees but I won't be able to actually see the sun since it is too far away for me to see.

I think I’ll go with Dimmer just because if I’m going to be going up to the surface. I need to make sure I’m prepared for the sun.

[Confirmed, You have chosen to advance Radar Sense: Dimmer]

I just want to be able to be in the sun without being blinded to be able to tell the sun how much I miss it.

I miss the sun so much I might even praise it as soon as I'm able to bask in it's light without fear of blindness.
