23. Betrayal

Eve couldn't possibly believe it. She had never felt this much betrayed before, especially coming from someone who, as she thought, was close to him. Even her parents doing the horrible things they did, mostly her Dad, didn't remotely come near to what Kotlin had done. He was her first real companion. They started the journey to this messed up world together, faithful of overcoming any difficulties and obstacles. And yet here they were.

Evelyn was also perplexed on how Kotlin could do his brother. She thought about that long enough and crafted some theories. But they didn't matter at all, cause she could just ask the direct thing.

"Why did you do this Kotlin?" asked Eve.

"WHY!?" responded Kotlin "Do you have the slightliest idea of what I had to go through? I don't really remember anything of when I was a small kid, but everything from the point your-- our Dad took me in is crystall clear. He wanted me to become strong, stronger than anybody else. He trained me for days to end, at first I thought he was just being ruthless and was only abusing me but when I started to see the progress; I was astonished. I had the best times of my life. Then he somehow got the news of your inevitable arrival and he started pressuring me on becoming way more powerful than I was capable of, considering the small amount of time I had at my disposal. That didn't turn me down, however, I persevered and achieved things I didn't think I would be able. But that still wasn't enough for him. He kept forcing me onto more challenging and difficult practices and I couldn't take it anymore. I tried my best to outdo them but they were crazy hard.

Then one grateful day, you made your arrival. I couldn't let it slip away from me. You were just too pure and virgin to really pose a threat. So I escaped from my father and went to search for you. Thankfully the rumors were correct and it didn't take my much to find you. From then on, it's history.

Here we are now, my beautiful sister. You have no idea how much I've craved for this moment. All those times I had you near me, defenseless and all, didn't really feel worthy of taking advantage of. But now that we are both face to face, I'm gonna end this once and for all and finally win my Dad's admiration."

"No.. I can't believe that's the real you." replied Eve. "I'm not gonna accept that I was that credulous to think that we had a thing going on. All those times you stood up for me. Didn't they mean anything? My father is the real enemy here. He deprived us of a proper childhood and made us follow his maleficent examples. This isn't who we are. We can always make things the right way."

"You're as naive as always, sister." said Kotlin. "GO GET HER!"

Every single guard quickly tackled Eve but Tok was on the defense. He took good care of a nice portion of the opponents whilst Eve rapidly took care of the remaining part. It didn't take her too much effort for that and she was still upset about the whole Kotlin situation.

She soon got into her common sense though, and realized it was futile to overthink that. What had happened had happened and she couldn't do much to change it. They had to think rationally on how to escape from this mess and the only plausible answer seemed to be beating the crap out of them. It was easier said than done tho.

Eve started 1 versus 2-ing Tomal and Kotlin but with Tep's assistance it felt more like a fair fight. Tep kept opening and closing portals, which made it easier for Eve to attack and dodge attacks but she still was overwhelmed.

Nevertheless, her days towards the Capital weren't only walking days, she had also practiced with Tok at times and Tok's improvement was visible. The small prodigy was getting rid of all the guards and Eve felt like she had to contribute as well. She started going all in on Tomal but he wasn't an easy foe. The kept on it for a while hitting each other back and forth and they all were getting tired. Tomal was getting impatient and he started getting more reckless. Kotlin noticed that and whispered something to him. He quickly retreat and now Eve was fighting Kotlin alone.

It was easily visible that Tomal was empowering his next attack whilst Kotlin was stalling time. It was all a deja vu but Eve knew she had to react quickly or else things would go downhill. Evelyn was pair to pair with Kotlin and she was amazed on how strong he really was, but she still had the upper edge. They kept on it for too damn long, thought Eve. She wanted to end things quick so she wouldn't delay Tomal's accumulation of power. But it was all too late.

Out of nowhere, Kotlin assaulted Eve and blocked her. He was keeping her strictly firm and Tomal was about to shoot his sphere. At the last second, Tok came out of the blue and stabbed Tomal. That all seemed good but Tomal still had some strength left to direct the ball towards them. Eve tried liberating herself but Kotlin wouldn't let go.

At the last second, Kotlin binded her there and fleed or at least so he would've wanted. Tep returned him back in and he was bound to get hit by the collateral damage. Kotlin, however, created a barrier and the damage was reduced.

Everyone on the area had been hit and as the explosion disappeared, Eve became visible. She was laying on the ground stunned. She wasn't hurt that much, just dazzled. On top of her stood Kotlin.

"All of it has come to an end, sister." said Kotlin.

"You don't have to do this." replied Eve.

"Nooo!" screamed Tok.

And then the Dagger pierced right through it. But it wasn't Eve who had died, Kotlin took the brutal fate. Behind him Shaiyla had appeared and was holding Eve's Dagger.

"Shaiyla!?" both Tok and Eve yelled.

"I'm sorry for taking so long, those guards had me good."

Then out of Kotlin's body a bright light started to emit. They all knew what it meant.

"The next portal." said all three of them at once.
