20. Truth

Eve looked more peaceful than ever. She didn’t feel any sort of agitation, she just embraced the situation and was ready to strike back. She pulled her dagger out and eloquently dodged everything that came towards her while also counter-attacking. The room kept getting flooded with guards but it was easier than expected to get rid of them.

It might’ve not been easy to spot Eve’s change, but she was another person. The way she moved, her calmness, everything on her seemed upgraded. For that matter, she had also made a closer bond with her pet. The both of them danced onto their enemies, defeating everyone who dared to approach. Even though she had only been training for less than a week, she had achieved statuses she couldn’t think were possible. Shaiyla had been an excellent teacher on this regard, but Eve’s perseverance was the major factor here.

Not too long after, all the guards were beaten. No reinforces were called upon and the team had made their victory.

“Oh Tok, I’m glad you’re well,” said Eve. “Where’s your dagger?”

“Thanks miss. I’m sorry to have been a burden to you, even after you helped me find my out.” He pulled out his dagger. It was pretty minuscule in comparison to Eve’s dagger. In fact, it had more of a curved form. It might appear to be a mix of dagger and boomerang. But it did fit Tok perfectly thought Eve.

“Miss, I’ve been captive here for a while and I’ve found something. I don’t know if it matters, but the guards were keeping an eye on it.” said Tok.

Shaiyla and Kotlin looked at each other.

“What is that Tok?” asked Eve.

He slowly approached one of the shelves the room had, pulled out a book and the bookshelf served as a door. Pretty cliche, ikr!? In front of everyone appeared a tiny light. Eve immediately turned her focus toward her pet and it was staring at the light as well.

“Do you know what this is, Tok?” asked Eve.

“No miss, all I know is that they were trying to keep it secret from you,” responded Tok.

Evelyn was suddenly hypnotized by the light and started approaching it. Abruptly, upon touch, Eve turned into a tiny light herself and was soaked in. She woke up to find herself somewhere else. It was no sign of the living here. Everything was straightforward and plain. It didn’t take her much to realize that she was in another world.

She started wandering around, her pet was right beside her but it didn’t seem to be much to explore there. She started questioning herself all type of things: Did the time pass normally here? What was she supposed to do here? Could she even go back?

But she didn’t look bothered nonetheless. She just kept walking and walking, staring at the simple designs all over the place. She did so for what might’ve been some good hours. Then she stopped.

Eve was standing in front of a spirit.

“Your visit was expected, the Next One.” said the Spirit.

“Who exactly are you?” asked Eve.

“I am the Spirit that guides the Chosen Ones. You’re currently in the World of the Truth. To your discontent, however, I am allowed to answer only one of your questions. So choose wisely and ask.”

Eve didn’t look shocked at all, she was calm and collected and within no time she asked:

“Tell me the history of my parents.”

“I see. Well, it all started right before you were born. Your parents were married and deeply in love, that’s why they were planning your arrival. Your dad, however, had discovered a rune page from the world that you just did flee and was analyzing it. He came to the conclusion that creatures of that world were awaiting the Next One. And he wanted to be that one. After 9 months, you were born. But in the meantime, your dad kept going with his experiments. Right after you were born, your dad had made a portal that he was going to take. Your mom noticed that and tried to stop him, but something went wrong and they were both transported somewhere else. That place was the hall with the 6 statues. Your mom was imprisoned there while your dad was sent to be the Devil. Meanwhile, you were patrolled by a sentinel your dad sent to your house all those years. Then the rest is history.”

“But why... how?” asked Eve.

“No no. Remember, only one question!?” replied the Spirit. “I am afraid to announce that that is all your arrival could hold. You’ll be sent back now.”

“Wai—

Eve got immediately transported somewhere else. Everything was silent for a second, then it all came to her. She wasn’t sent back to the fortress, she was in the hall with the 4 remaining statues.

“Where is my mother!?” screamed Eve.
