11. Turmoil

The fortress in which the Devil laid was dazzling. It was located in the middle of nothingness. Near it were settled some houses but which in comparison to the giant fortress were non-existent. Everything felt silent and no light was visible, apart from some lamps here and then around the fortress.

The Devil was sitting on his throne; contemplating. It seemed that his impatience was coming to life but his impeccable poker face was unmoved. He, nevertheless, was ready to take action if need be. But he knew he had to carry out his diligence.

It had been a while since he had sent those soldiers to capture the girl, but with no real news. He knew it was futile to accelerate things, especially now that he had waited an eternity for it. He just had to keep his composure and let things come to him.

He had been repeating that for days and when he was about to lose his cool a guard stepped in.

“Your greatness, it appears that the girl has evaded the Dork’s town and has gone missing since then.” said a guard. “Do you want to send more guards patrol the abouts?”

“That wasn’t the news I was waiting for but at least it didn’t leave me hanging.” responded the Devil. “There’s no need for that. Bring Nahtee here.”

“Hmm, sire, there’s no time for jokes as of right now.” replied the guard. “I suggest we send some guards till we can, so we don’t waste any time. She should be somewhere clos—“

The guard realized his mistake. The Devil was looking at him with an horrifying gaze. Soon after that the guard vanished. The Devil called for another one.

“Send Nahtee here as soon as possible.” said the Devil.

“M’lord, Nahtee hasn’t returned yet.” replied the new guard.

“What do you mean?”

“That since he hasn’t found the girl yet, he of course wouldn’t be back.”

“What are you even talking about? Get him out of his training and bring him here! Stop talking non-sense!”

“But your greatness, he has left to go retrieve the girl as instructed by you.”

“WHAT!?”

“He came to us and said that you gave him permission to go get the girl.”

“That insolent.” half said the Devil. “Very well then, call Merian and Tomal. Tell them to be here in an instant.”

There was a moment of silence.

“C-c-certainly sire, what about the other two?”

“Let them be for now.”

The guard quickly ran off to spread the word. It didn’t take that much but after some time the two summoned were finally present.

“What an honor to finally be invited by your highness.” said Tomal.

“It has been forever, hasn’t it.” replied Merian. “Where are Jome and Clida by the way?”

“There was no need to request all of your presences.” responded the Devil. “We all know the two of you are all I need. Moving forward, I think you’ve heard about the arrival of the girl.”

“How couldn’t we?” asked Tomal.

“That’s good. Sucks to know however that she has escaped Dork. And we know that she couldn’t have gone too far. More precisely, she should be near Lak at any time. So I want you two to go and get her.”

“What’s in for us though?” asked Merian.

“If you successfully bring her to me, alive, I’ll accept your previous request. And I’m specifically talking about that.”

“Oh, this got interesting now.” exclaimed Tomal.

“Let’s do this then.” said Merian.

“Bring her as soon as possible.” demanded the Devil.

“Consider it done.” replied Tomal.

Merian started focusing up and she had a vision. It was Evelyn. She quickly disconnected her thoughts and an image of where Eve was staying appeared on her mind.

“Yep, found her. She’s exactly near Lak.” said Merian.
