The Game of Evolution
The world's a bit grey

The world's a bit grey

It was an average day on earth, with the population continuing with the slow slog towards death in the hopes that the last few years you have are in comfort.

Unfortunately, most never get to have that luxury for some it is physical like a homeless man on the street who is surrounded by the hounds of the world around him.

Or it could be psychological like the king who has everything he could want but feels nothing but ice in his soul wherever he looks.

Well, unfortunately, for Jack Darwin, he has both been in the middle of life and the grey area of society, neither wealthy nor poor. Happy or sad, he simply just drifts along in the hope he latches on to something great even if he doesn't know it.

Many on earth had been in this spot of limbo like you're very soul is floating within you like it's in a pinball machine.

That is why they had the chance at something grander than they ever had before a chance to truly have power, the likes of which no one on earth would ever have.

"Have the candidates been chosen?"

"Yes, we have found 10 suitable candidates for the games. Should we begin the transference process?"

"Yes, proceed."

"Christ, I'm bored. If I'm asking these types of questions... is my phone charged yet I'm God damn useless without it"-Jack Darwin

Jack was currently lying on his bed, looking like he had just been transported to the Middle Ages and realized what it entails.

"Ahhhh, why is life so long and boring and oddly blue and brown so much of so little I can barely stand it?"-Jack Darwin

*strange alien noises more robotic than biological, you know the noises, the vum or Woah Woah sound*

"What in the hell did I leave the tv on?"-Jack Darwin

Jack got up, but just as he did, an enormous blast of energy swallowed his body down to every last atom, leaving only an empty room with a phone at full charge.

"Alright, it's finished. Let's transition to Ludum Mundi, and I'll go introduce myself to the new candidates."

"Yes, sir."

"What the hell?"-Jack Darwin

One minute, Jack was in his room. The next thing, he was in a circular room made of a grey metal that looked like smooth stone. It wasn't by the noise made by the other 9 strangers slapping the walls or stomping on the floor.

Luckily for them, there were two large lights on the ceiling illuminating the room to show a large door about 8 ft tall in the wall.

Now, all things considered, Jack was handling this extremely well, but that couldn't be said for some of the others.

"Help! I've been kidnapped, oh Jesus, they're gonna probe us!"

"Dude, this ain't it, chief. I didn't sign up for this"

"Very clean room, all things considered adequate indeed."

"Do they have a toilet here? I got some fields to fertilize."

Jack was currently watching the others walk around talking to themselves or each other while some tried forcing the door open. One guy even seemed ready to go back to sleep as if it was all a dream and he'd be back home soon.

An hour later, most of them had settled down but were still shaken and worried, with some constantly watching the door.

Until it opened and a large creature walked into the room having to slightly bend their head down to get in which caused everyone to scream and run to the back of the room as far away from the thing.

Jack was stunned at what he was seeing a large creature with a lizard-like face that had yellow eyes and spikes jutting out the side of the skin near the sides of its eyes.

Giving the creature an even more intimidating look than it had already had with green scales with the odd yellow blotch here and there.

Jack also noticed its razor-sharp teeth in multiple rows with a long tongue that separated in two as well as 5 sharp claws on each hand, making this creature look like an apex predator in metallic skin-tight crimson armor.

If there wasn't anymore proof of its reptile origins, the large 3 ft tail that swayed behind looked like it could break bones on its own.

"Ahhh what the fuck is that!?"

"Please god don't condemn me to this fate oh please lord"

"Christ aliens exist humanity's screwed"

"So cool"-Jack Darwin

The creature looked at the group of humans all of which were frightened by its sight like sheep being watched by a wolf.

"Do not be afraid humans I mean you no harm"

The way its mouth and tongue moved was quickly obvious it wasn't speaking the human language but they could understand it somehow.

"It speaks it's speaking!"

"Please let us go!"

"I think an introduction is in order. My name is Cagra Venux, and I am a games organizer in charge of you. Do not worry. I will answer your questions"-Cagra

"What going on ?"

"Well humans, you have been chosen as candidates to participate in the great game of Evolution that has been going on since time immemorial it is a great honour"-Cagra

"I don't want this. Please take me home!"

"Denied you will all play, and that is final. The only thing awaiting you is the games and the power that comes with it"-Cagra

"This is inhumane!"

"Good thing I'm not human"-Cagra

"Can you at least explain what type of game we are playing?"-Jack Darwin

"Ha, why, of course I will!"-Cagra
