Chapter Three: The Butcher

Logan rode his horse all day southbound. He was headed to the Castle of Flowers thieves guild to return the sword to his boss, Aldous Cage. The sword was Logan’s chance to make a lot of money. He realised the sun was getting low and decided to stop for the night. He took his horse off the main road and down to a riverbed. He made a campfire and started to fish in the river. The sun went down and Logan continued to fish. He caught a Riverstang Muppet and cooked it on a pan with some garlic and olive oil.

Logan ate the fish off the tip of a knife. He finished eating and washed his pan in the river. Then he sat next to the fire and waited for sleep.

He closed his eyes and heard a snapping twig. Then another twig. He was concerned. He opened his eyes and looked out beyond the light of the fire. It was too dark to see anything.

He heard more steps, it sounded like something big. He heard a large branch snap and he jumped. Behind him, two large pale ogres appeared from the darkness.

“What’s we gots?” The first ogre said playfully.

“Dinner’s nice and big tonight.” The second ogre said.

“Hows you wants your dinner, Rory?” The first ogre said, “Squished, or drowned?”

“Bit of both.” Rory said.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Logan pulled out the golden sword and got to his feet, facing the two ogres. Jason woke up from a nap. He looked around and saw the thief was about to get murdered. Jason put his hand on Logan’s shoulder, but didn’t show Logan his ghostly form.

Logan felt a hand on his shoulder and the sword ignited. The sword glowed orange and red.

“No, no, no.” The first ogre said. “Can’t have that.”

The ogre pulled out a vicious cleaver. The second ogre pulled a club from his back.

The first ogre attacked with the cleaver and chopped straight down, Logan rolled to the side.

He chopped the ogre’s hand and it let go of the blade. The cleaver was buried in the dirt. The ogre put his sore hand in his mouth.

Rory attacked with his club. He took wild swings towards Logan, and Logan had to dodge. He grabbed a log from the fire and threw it at Rory’s face. It hit him in the eye.

“Ouch, I’m going to double squish you for that.” The ogre started to attack faster.

Logan watched as the other ogre started to walk towards his horse. He threw his knife at the ogre and it turned back around and picked up its cleaver.

Logan rolled towards Rory and stabbed him in the guts, he sliced open the ogre and intestines spilled out onto the riverbank.

“Rory!” screamed the other ogre.

The ogre ran towards Logan and then made several slashes side to side. Logan retreated further and further. He hid behind a massive tree and the cleaver chopped into it and got stuck. Logan jumped onto the cleaver and ran up the length of the blade. He stabbed the ogre in the skull and rode the body down as it toppled backwards.

Jason was impressed. Logan Sat down against one of the corpses and chuckled to himself.

“Stupids you are.” He mocked. He was stressed and he stared at the fire. His horse neighed.
