Chapter Fifty Six: The Dragons of Arcadia

One Month Later

Jason had moved into a grand manor and built a blacksmithing shop right next to it. Then he built a tall stone wall around his house and made a nice courtyard. He had some small vegetable gardens and an apple tree sapling. His new courtyard home was excellent, and he and Stella had felt blessed.

They had found peace, and renewed their love for each other. They had been through a lot together, and Jason finally felt like he could start a family.

One morning, Jason woke up next to Stella and felt so happy. He’d forgotten about the massive spiders, and the huge dragon. His day to day life was fixing things for the villagers and making enchanted swords in his spare time.

He would occasionally get visits from Nathaniel, Dominic, Ogden and Lord Redran, although the others seemed to stay within the walls of the castle. It had been an entire month since he’d seen Freya. Jason still thought about her.

He was heartbroken. He still loved the Elf Princess, but he also loved Stella. His heart was torn in two. After dating the elf for six months, he would fondly look back on their times together. Jason settled with the idea that it was never meant to be.

Jason was weeding his garden when he heard something terrifying. A giant roar broke the serenity. Jason looked in the sky and located the source of the screech. The dragon had returned. He could see the massive creature descend from the clouds. It landed near the Castle of Flowers, far in the distance.

It seemed much smaller from such a long way away.

Jason realised his friends were all about to enter their fiercest battle yet. He wanted to help.

Jason looked into his chest and his heart started to glow similar to Ogden’s eternal flame. His heart glowed red and pink, then the light spread to his arms and face. His eyes turned red and he blinked.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the world in very different colours. Everything was now purple and blue. Jason’s eyes were reptile-like. He felt himself changing, and growing. He fell to the ground in pain and then his bones started to crack.

Jason’s skin grew scales, which made him cry out in pain. His arms began to break and bend as they grew longer. His skull fractured and Jason mutated into a dragon. He was in a lot of pain. His face became elongated, and he realised he could breathe much deeper. His spine cracked and more vertebrae grew rapidly.

Jason screamed in pain, except the scream was a roar. Jason looked into the well and saw his reflection. He was a red scaled dragon. He had four legs and wings extruding from his shoulders. He was taller than his house, but not anywhere close to the size of the massive dragon.

Jason stopped feeling pain as the transformation concluded. He suddenly understood why his magical powers were so strong. Jason was a dragon. He’d never even known.

Stella came out of the house and saw Jason. She’d seen him transform through her window.

“Jason,” She called out in fear. She grabbed him by the arm and hugged him. “Jason, what happened to you.”

“I love you.” He said to her, his voice rough, and deep. She let go of his leg and stood in front of him.

“I love you too, Jason.” She said. Jason looked up at the Castle. The dragon was breathing fire over the city. Ballista bolts had begun to fly across the skies. Jason flapped his wings, and hovered over his house. He shot a long jet of fire into the sky above Stella.

Then he used his powerful wings to fly towards the castle. He picked up a lot of speed and the wind whistled past his body.
