Chapter Forty One: Gold

Chapter Forty One: Gold

Inside the caverns, the pirates wandered the mountains of gold.

They discovered incredible artifacts. Treasures from millenia before. Some of the treasures were broken, bent, or melted. Statues were often skewed, or warped. The pirate ships had all been explored. They had built safehouses in each of the boats. The dragon would leave for weeks, then return unannounced.

The pirates had survived by hunting some of the lizard creatures who entered the dragon’s lair. They cooked the lizard meat by roasting it on a cannon they half-sank into the shore of a lava pool.

They seasoned the lizard with salt from the walls of the cave, and some interesting spices from one of the pirate ships. They mostly ate lizard steaks. It didn’t always agree with their stomachs.

They used their cannons to kill the lizard predators. They only ventured into the dragon’s lair occasionally. They were deadly. Most were the size of a horse. Some were smaller.

The pirates had begun to get used to living in the cave.

The pirates were standing on the gold mountain, when they heard a familiar sound. The flapping of wings.

They sprinted to their ship and went inside. The dragon entered the cave with a massive wooly mammoth in its jaw. It also carried a Tyrannosaurus Rex in its claw. It dropped the dinosaur, which started limping towards the mouth of the cave. It growled and roared in pain and anger. The dragon started munching on the mammoth. Too distracted to chase after the Tyrannosaurus.

The pirates watched the dragon eat. They hoped it would leave behind some mammoth meat for them as well.
