Our protagonist, an unnamed rank F [Abyssal Lizard] hatchling was born in the first layer of the world's largest dungeon, the Unfathomable Abyss. For an unknown reason, they possess the title [Sapient Monster]. Shortly after their birth, the protagonist's mother and siblings were preyed upon by a rank D [Black Hunter Spider].
After escaping with their life, our protagonist is determined to grow stronger in order to take revenge and to survive the perils of the dungeon. After hunting small critters, our unnamed protagonist was found and chased by an a rank E [Abyssal Titanoboa]. However, with the use of an opportunistic attack and a healthy dose of luck, the protagonist successfully turns the tables on their would-be predator and kills them.
With enough experience from the encounter, they successfully evolve into a rank E [Abyssal Drakeling]. Now on even ground with rank E predators, the protagonist began to fight them, and in the process strengthening their [Poison Resistance] skill - a skill that is helpful against many of the first layer's denizens, the Black Hunter Spider included.
After gaining enough confidence, the Abyssal Drakeling decides that it is time to strike at its nemesis. With a well-planned ambush, the protagonist successfully strikes against the spider, only to fall to an ambush themselves by a third monster! Despite the setback, the protagonist managed to salvage the situation and take down both the spider and the intruding monster.
Now free of their goal, the protagonist decides to gain more power in order to never fear for their life again, and begins a rampage throughout the first layer. A rampage that was only stopped by the arrival of five human adventurers.
During the encounter, one of the adventurers attempts to dominate the protagonist with a monster taming ability. It nearly succeeds, but ends up both failing and driving the protagonist into a murderous rage! In the process, three adventurers are killed and the remaining two escape. Hot on their tail, the protagonist chases after them through a tunnel which ends in a large drop.
With nowhere to run, the adventurers turned to face the enraged drakeling. Using a wind spell, one of the adventurers manages to push the protagonist off the cliff, sending them falling deep into the dungeon.
With plenty of wounds and seemingly no hope, the protagonist fainted, only to be crushed by their fall and reach 0 HP. Fortunately, a god intervenes to rescue the protagonist, leaving a message in their mind for when they wake up.
As the protagonist recovered, they found that the god's message warned them that they fell into the dungeon's third layer - a layer of bone-chilling frost and snow that they have no chance winning a fight in, and that they needed to find a way to escape to the surface. There, a follower of the god will lead them to her temple, where the protagonist will receive answers on why they were saved.
Having earned enough experience to evolve, and being in desperate need of a power up, the drakeling evolves into a rank D [Draco Sapiens].
Eager to leave, the protagonist searches for a way out, only to be spotted by an [Abyssal Frost Eagle]; a powerful and relentless rank B monster. Barely managing to escape into a tunnel where the eagle cannot reach, the protagonist looks for another way to escape.
Weak, wounded, and hungry, the protagonist finally finds a tunnel that leads upwards. The catch is that it is in the great cavern where monsters like the frost eagle dwelt.
Desperate to escape, the protagonist attempts to sneak through the underground blizzard blowing through the cavern, only to be spotted by the same frost eagle. They attempt to run for dear life, only to be crippled by the eagle's attack only a few dozen meters left.
As the eagle lands near the protagonist to finish them off, the protagonist gives up struggling, only to witness the eagle being struck by a massive frost spear. Moments later, it was encased in ice, and the protagonist fainted.

When the protagonist woke up, they found their wounds healed and a massive frost dragon eyeing them curiously. Through a telepathic connection, the ancient dragon calmed down the protagonist and gave them the gift of language, finally allowing them to communicate verbally.
The dragon's name was Azoth, the Azure Dragon, and she listened to the protagonist's story with compassion. Azoth then decides to be the protagonist's guardian, until they find the protagonist's real parents. In the meantime, she would also escort them to meet the god in question.
Azoth casts a spell to transform both of their bodies into that of humans so that they avoid causing a panic, then move to meet the god's follower waiting for them in the first layer.
On their way out of the island the dungeon's entrance lays in, they encounter the surviving two adventurers who sent the protagonist falling into the third layer. After some threatening and browbeating, one of the adventurers swore an oath on their soul to repay them for not throwing them in hot water with the rest of the adventurer's guild. The protagonist, meanwhile, swears an oath on their soul to make the adventurer pay for attempting to enslave them.
Later on, Azoth and the protagonist eventually arrive at the temple of the god in question in the Tameryian city of Hebnopet. The temple's head priest leads them to a stage surrounded by seven statues of gods. As the two stand in its center, three of the statues begin to glow, and the two are transported into the garden of the gods.
The god that had summoned the protagonist, the Goddess of Fortune, was waiting for the protagonist. Beside her were the Goddess of Fertility and the God of Mercy.
The Goddess of Fortune said that she saved the protagonist because she saw that there are a series of coming storms, and that the protagonist would be in the center of them. By saving the protagonist, she gains a way to influence these events. After that, she takes her leave, and the God of Mercy spoke next.
He begged the protagonist for forgiveness, having failed to save their life before. He explained that in a desperate attempt to make their life easier, he asked the Goddess of Death to ensure that your next life is a kinder one. Although they could not change that the protagonist's next life would be as an [Abyssal Lizard], they at least gave the protagonist the sapient monster title. After that, the old god watched over the first layer for centuries, waiting for the day that the protagonist would emerge. After asking the protagonist to allow him to watch over them, the old god disappeared, giving the Goddess of Fertility the chance to speak next.
The last goddess asked Azoth and the protagonist to use her blessing to aid in preserving the new [Draco Sapiens] species that the protagonist evolved into. After some tense misunderstandings and discussions, they came to an agreement, and the goddess disappeared.
When they returned to the temple, the protagonist found themselves in possession of the three gods' blessings. After a brief lecture on the Tameryian pantheon by the head priest on their way out, Azoth and the protagonist left the temple. Near the exit, an adventurer academy caught Azoth's eye. A hint of an idea coming to her, she took the protagonist to it and asked for a letter of recommendation to enter the Kengir Academy, the best academy in the human lands. Offended by the bold demand, the academy's headmaster demanded that the protagonist pass with perfect scores on all three of their academy's entrance tests.
In the magic test, they found out that the protagonist possesses two diametrically opposed attributes - the arcane attribute and the atypical attribute. Since affinities to adjacent attributes are also relatively high, the protagonist possesses a universal capability for all the attributes - the best result one could ask for.
In the physical test, the protagonist passed with flying colors, blowing through all the fitness tests that they were put through, which were originally designed for humans.
In the combat test, the protagonist put up a ferocious fight against the academy's headmaster, but ended up losing. Despite their loss, the headmaster granted them full marks, since the applicant was never intended to win. The combat test only existed to see how the applicant would react when faced with a superior foe.
With the letter of recommendation in hand, the two left the academy and rented an inn's room, where the protagonist demanded answers for their burning questions.
Azoth answered them all; that she saved the protagonist because she saw a child who needed help, and that it was all the reason she needed. She also told them about the tense relations between the gods and the dragons, and that Azoth's sister - Ighir, the Flame Dragon, was coming to visit. Finally, she told them that she intended to send them to a human academy so that it may serve as a foundation for the non-existent education they have. Any further lessons that a dragon ought to learn or gaps in the academy's education, she would teach the protagonist herself.
Days later, the protagonist learns to cast basic spells with Azoth's instruction. The protagonist also decides that their gender is female, and that her name is Kiara, during her first meeting with Ighir and Ighir's son, Durreg.
After that, Kiara and Durreg are sent to fight in nearby dungeons to prepare them for attending the academy.
