[Class Advancement Available]!
It’s not that surprising that I reached the next class advancement – I was literally starting from the bottom and killing a single rank B monster grants hundreds of thousands of experience points. The next threshold is at level 100, and the one after that is at level 200. I should probably ask mom if she knows the ones beyond that, not that I’ll reach beyond level 200 any time soon.
In any case, that leaves one matter to decide on before I advance my class. Maybe Nicotris could help with this since she’s already past class level 100.
“Should I allocate my class skill points or wait to advance my class first?”
She put a hand on her chin to think for a while, then answered.
“Allocating your skill points before you advance your class may grant you more options to choose from. On the other hand, keeping your skill points may allow you flexibility with the evolved versions of your class skills. Might as well take a look at what you have first before you decide.”
“If I recall correctly, Instructor Adelphius said that every class skill can go up to ten, right? I have more class skill levels to fill than class skill points.”
“Well, obviously? How many class skills and skill points do you have?”
“I have 6 class skills and 49 skill points – of which I already used 6.”
“…You got a skill point with every single level?!”
I grinned at her and kept my mouth shut.
After a prayer for patience from her goddess and a deep sigh, she answered me.
“Going back to your question, the answer is yes, class skill levels start with a skill level limit of ten. Each class advancement also raises the limit by ten. Common and Uncommon classes get four class skills, Rare and Legendary classes get five, and, based on what you just said, mythic classes get six.”
She glanced at the other three, who were busy discussing their own options, then looked back to me to continue.
“Most people don’t have anywhere near enough skill points ordinarily to push all of their class skills to their maximum level, but you might get the opportunity to do so since you’re only a few skill points from pushing them all to the level ceiling. You might as well just throw all the points in and see what you get; you’ll only need five more skill points to push everything to the ceiling. Just when I thought mythic classes couldn’t be more absurd…” she grumbled with a hint of jealousy.
I think she’ll find Durreg to be a kindred spirit, assuming we don’t earn her a mythic class of her own. That won’t happen for a while though.
“I see. Then back to the matter of whether I should use my class skill points; My new class skills won’t be too different from their predecessors, right?”
She shrugged.
“That depends on how different your new class is from the old one, but generally speaking, yes, they will be similar.”
Hmm.
My class is already at the highest rarity that even a powerhouse like mom knows about, so pushing for something beyond that is not likely to be a winning bet, but I don’t think I’ve got anything to lose from giving it a shot anyway. Now, which skill should get the short end of the stick regarding my skill points?
I invested a skill point in each of my class skills, and it turned out that only Force Inversion did not increase in power. Instead, it became cheaper to use.
Fair enough I guess, since I can’t imagine how you can improve its potency. That said, my mana is much more than enough to cover my spells for even the longest fights, so that’s the one that I’ll leave unfilled.
After using the rest of my points, my class skill list looked like a perfect painting with one, deeply unsatisfying flaw.
…
Class Skill Points: 0
Class Skills:
[Beloved of Gravity Lv. 10]
[Lady of Attraction Lv. 10]
[Gravitational Multiplier Lv. 10]
[Field of Oppression Lv. 10]
[Black Hole Lv. 10]
[Force Inversion Lv. 5]
…
Putting the perfectionist urges in me to the back of my mind, it was time to see my class advancements.
Do you wish to advance your class?
An anxious mental nod later, the list opened before me.
[Empress of Gravity]
As the natural class advancement for the sovereign of gravity class, its wielder doubles down on their mastery of gravity magic. The world itself will quake and fall to its knees in the face of the empress’s wrath. Foes who think gravity magic deals less direct damage than the other elements may be subject to a fatal lesson on their folly at the discretion of its master.
[World Breaker]
Secret Class Requirements:
* Possess maximum affinity for Atypical – Force attribute.
* Possess a racial trait for sorcery.
* Possess a divine shard.
* Bested a higher ranked monster with a superior strength attribute in unarmed combat.
* Killed a higher ranked monster with a single Atypical – Force attributed magic attack.
* Killed multiple higher ranked monsters in the same battle.
The world bends to the hands of the World Breaker, and not the other way around. With a punch, they can shatter reality and magnify the force of their attack. With a pull, they can bend space itself to bring down calamity on their foes. There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide from the untold scale of destruction the World Breaker brings with them.
“Wow. Just two classes? That’s a shame.”
“No, Kiara, that’s the usual. Most people don’t get anything besides their standard class advancement anyway. So, what did you get?”
***
“Another mythic class. And you have the audacity to be upset…”
“Of course I am upset! The first advancement is just the standard one and the other completely deviates from my gravity magic, and I don’t want to sacrifice all my hard work at learning to use it. I have a suspicion that it sacrifices all utility in exchange for raw damage, and it even looks like it can’t discriminate between friend and foe! I am surprised it’s not a forbidden class.”
“I can understand your apprehension for the latter, but what’s wrong with your standard advancement? Are you under the impression that it’s weaker than those with secret conditions? They’re both mythic already, the highest anyone’s ever heard of.”
“…I feel like it’s beneath me to choose a standard advancement.” I grumbled.
“This is where your draconic vanity rears its head?! Stop acting like a spoiled child!”
“But I don’t want to take either of them! Look, I have an idea. Maybe if I kill a rank A monster in this layer, I’ll unlock another option.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! Fighting two rank B monsters almost killed you, and now you want something higher?!”
“That was because I was protecting Jezibel! If it’s just the two of us, I am betting we could get it done easily. You’ll benefit too since it’s a monster higher ranked than you are. Didn’t you say something about heights and risks to match them?”
That worked better than I expected at shutting her mouth.
“How do you propose the others will react to leaving them behind? And how are we going to find our way back to them in the first place? Something else might kill them if we aren’t there.”
“The two of us can go and we can have Jezibel’s owl follow us. It should be able to lead us back to her. They can remain in the side tunnel until we kill a single rank A monster, then we’ll be back. That should be enough to tell if rank A monsters will give us more class advancements. In fact, I am wagering it’s just what you need to reach the mythic rarity when it’s time for your evolution and advancement.”
Nicotris thought over my argument and ultimately gave in. She did have one more thing to say though.
“Before we go hunting, we should hear what the other three decided on. They might want our feedback. Letting them evolve and advance will make them safer, and they might even be capable of hunting alone.”
I nodded, eager to see what they’ve been up to as well.
