Chapter 81: Five Against the World

Chapter 81: Five Against the World

Nisos and Nico climbed on my back as I took off in my base dragonoid form. Ati and Jezibel were going to stay hidden for now.

“I can’t believe we’re actually going through with a plan this ridiculous.” Nisos shook his head as I exited the tunnel and rapidly approached the undead army.

“Not the time for regrets! Hold on!” I said as I launched a massive fire breath over the undead.

The undead army and the assassin’s guild rose from the ground in response to our attack, as I launched another fire breath and scorched another hundred undead.

An ungodly amount of mana began to coalesce in the distant necromancer – not far from the power the crowned eagle demonstrated in the third layer.

“Nisos, give me your and Kiara’s wisdom!” Nico yelled, and Nisos obliged.

We had been waiting for this.

A powerful and deadly green beam launched towards us, eager to tear us into shreds.

“[Shield of Order]!” Nico yelled, and the familiar shield stood at an angle between us and the necromancer’s ranged attack.

The shield glowed significantly brighter than usual, and its strength showed as it deflected the beam into the ceiling.

“Keep attacking, Kiara!” Nisos urged me, and I fired a third fire breath at a particularly clumped up group of undead, burning hundreds of them.

“Come on, come and get us!” I said through the telepathic connection, and sure enough, the undead beasts capable of flying took off after us.

The necromancer started casting something, and the flying undead began to glow with a dark aura. The monsters screeched, and they rushed at us with numbers that blocked out most of the cave.

When I woke up today, I hadn’t expected to be chased by tens of thousands of monsters through the air in an enclosed space, yet here we were.

“Nico, punch through them! Nisos, give us the attributes!” I said as I turned around and flew right back at the monsters.

Nisos activated his skill once again and sent as much of our wisdom to Nico as he could while giving me their intelligence and strength.

“[Fist of Justice]!”

A massive, golden fist crushed hundreds of the flying beasts, creating a hole for us to go through. Using the boost in strength, I flapped my wings faster to make use of the opening before it closed as I fired an earth breath to make sure we punch through for good measure.

Now, we were flying back towards the necromancer and his little army. He fired another beam at us, which Nico deflected with a second use of [Shield of Order] as I fired yet another breath at the undead. The cloud of monsters was turning back to follow us.

“Just a bit more!” I said, and the necromancer fired a third beam.

Nico blocked it again.

“I am out of shields! I can’t protect you anymore!” Nico yelled at me telepathically.

“You don’t need to; It’s time!” I said, turning around to face the cloud, which grouped into a rough sphere due to their varying speeds and altitudes.

That was perfect for our purposes.

I turned around to face our pursuers.

“[Force Sphere]!”

A dark ball flew out of my mouth and rushed towards the monsters. The world went quiet for a moment as the entire cloud of flying monsters and nearby land monsters were sucked into the sphere, then a loud explosion resounded as the mass of air and monster remains exploded in the direction of the assassins’ barracks. A large, green shield appeared in front of it, protecting our enemies from the targeted attack.

The dust settled, revealing an enraged demon lord seed that was pulsing with mana.

“What a shame. I’d hoped to get them with that too, but it was a long shot anyway.” I said.

“This was expected. Brace yourself, the hard part begins here!” Nico said, and the necromancer flew towards us.

“YOU LITTLE BRATS! HOW DARE YOU STAND IN MY WAY!” he screamed, summoning a large number of magic green spheres around him then launched them at us.

Nicotris unhooked herself from my harness and flew up straight up with her bow summoned.

“Hold on, Nisos!” I yelled, as I flew away and used [Law of Exclusive Attraction], [Force Coefficient], and [Herald’s Domain] to make the spheres crash into each other before they reached us.

Although [Herald’s Domain] is a lot more versatile, I wouldn’t have had to do this two spheres at a time if I still had [Field of Oppression].

Still, it got the job done, getting all the spheres to destroy each other.

Nicotris fired arrow after arrow as she rushed towards the necromancer, forcing him to stop paying attention to us to protect himself.

Just as Nico was about to reach the necromancer to attack him, the other members of the assassin’s guild started firing their spells at her, forcing her to back off.

Nico flew back to our side and clicked her tongue.

“Sorry, I couldn’t get him. We need to fight him in close combat if we want to kill him, but we need to deal with the other members of the guild to do that.” She said in an irritated tone.

“Can’t rush the necromancer without killing the goons, can’t kill the goons without killing the necromancer. What a pickle.” I chuckled.

“Maybe we should leave supressing the assassins to the other two? We now have near total air superiority.” Nisos said, gesturing to the approaching Ati and Jezibel.

The majority of the monsters still lived, but they were forced to stare at us from below as all their flying brethren were dead.

“I can’t believe your insane idea actually worked.” Jezibel said as she entered Nisos’s telepathic range.

“Just make sure not to fall down; you’ll get buried in undead otherwise.” Ati warned.

“Well, so much for a pinnacle rank A demon lord seed. With a 182 class levels, I honestly expected more.”

As if he’d heard me, the necromancer looked furious beyond belief.

“You think you threw a wrench in my plans? HA! I’ll show you!” he screamed.

A large green circle appeared beneath his feet as he hovered in the air. The monster corpses that were scattered throughout the cave by our attacks came flying back in front of him, merging into an unholy flesh-and-bone amalgamation. It just kept growing in size until the corpses ran out, forming a sphere with nearly a hundred meters’ diameter.

“Behold! I am going to crush you like the bugs that you are!”

Spit went flying out of his mouth as he yelled at us; the titanic unholy abomination he was summoning began resembling a living being as it morphed.

Even worse, it formed wings.

Soon enough, a massive, fleshy pseudo-dragon stared at us lifelessly by its master’s side.

Rank A creature. An unholy abomination summoned by a powerful necromancer, with nothing but vitality and strength befitting a large pile of corpses.

The creature slowly flapped its wings and hovered near its master.

“What do we do?! How are we supposed to fight this thing?!” Jezibel screamed telepathically.

“Nisos and I will handle it! What about the rest of you?!” I demanded, and Nico responded.

“I’ll fend off the necromancer until you’re back; Jezibel, Ati, you two suppress the rest of the guild! Now go!” she yelled, and we split apart in mid-air.

I dove towards the flesh abomination and fired breath attack after breath attack, yet the flames seemed to quickly extinguish instead of spreading throughout the beast. It roared silently at us (did it even have a voice organ, or any of those at all?) as it flapped its wings.

A mighty gale pushed down beneath it, and that alone made it move with terrifying speed towards us.

I cursed inwardly. With such a lopsided difference between its strength and dexterity, on top of its sheer weight, it shouldn’t be able to turn around or slow down quickly enough to catch us.

Right?

I moved to the side as quickly as I could, and just barely managed to get out of the beast’s way in time before it could crash into me.

The flesh amalgamation struggled to slow down as I fired an earth breath at it, though it did nothing to hurt it beyond taking a few hundred HP. At this rate, my mana was going to run out long before its health would.

A wave of soul magic erupted from the necromancer, forcing Nico to retreat from his vicinity lest she be caught in it. He then turned towards us and fired soul magic spheres our way, but I had no intention of seeing what they would do if they'd hit.

"Hahahaha! A dragon is going to make a fine addition to my army! You will make up for the loss of my flying beasts!" he taunted as he attacked, forcing me back until Nico rushed back at him to keep him occupied.

By that time, the flesh amalgmation had recovered and started moving our way again.
