Tec Mage Chapter Nineteen:A Student, A Teacher And A Master

The blinding light eased up and Atlas sight returned to him, he rubbed his eyes to try to get ride of the white blotches he could now see, Forge seemed to be fine but still dropped off Atlas shoulders and backed up from the door

"It hurts to get near the door" said Forge

Nelious clinked his spirit tongue at Forge

"Baby needs a bottle" Nelious moved forward with purpose "don't worry, daddy's here", Nelious was being smug and childish towards Forge due to his own weakness of the last battle he wanted to prove him self and bring down Forges a notch or two even though he forgot that Forge couldn't hear or see him, Nelious floated closer and closer to the door in till his face slapped on an a invisible barrier and squashed one side of his face in to a pancake

"ftuk if thufs", Nelious moved back from the door "fuck is this"

At this time Atlas could see with out black pitches in his eye sight, he was still next to the door but there was no pain that Forge mentioned or the invisible barrier stopping Nelious, the door Atlas was at still had the red magical aura swirling around it, he looked at Forge and Nelious, both were rubbing parts of them self

"Stay here and look after each other" said Atlas

Forge looked confused because he didn't know where to begin with looking after Nelious as he was a spirit, when Atlas said to look after each other it was pointed at Nelious and the little dig he tried to take at Forges sake

Tec Mage Chapter Nineteen: A Student, A Teacher And A Master

Atlas reached out for the door handle and raised his spear/staff to block the potential blinding light, turning the handle and opening the door a stale dry air that smelled like old books hit his face, before he even walked in to the new room Atlas could see how much stuff was in side

"Ding"

You are the first players to discover Dr Alberich secret study

Reward: Fame +100

The room was a huge circle but the walls were perfectly lined with book shelf's and jars filled with ingredients, the shelf's were as high as the ceiling and full, in the centre of the room were tables with different tools and equipment on each one, at the back of the room was a long thick oak table with a plush chair and beside that up some stairs were living quarters

Atlas moved to the outer side of the room and brushed his hand against the books, randomly he looked closely at the books

Malignite and the refining methods for use in crafting

Orichalcum ore and what can be done with it

Cold Iron, what's it uses?

Levistone, where and how

The beginnings of Sakuradite

Soulsteel and what it is

Atlas assumed he was passing the part of the books that had metals, ore and gems, he checked the shelfs again when he got closer to oak table

Acacia, connection to a reverence for the dead, resurrection and immortality

Acai Berry, The musical herb

Agrimony, turning back jinxes and protection against curses

Alfalfa, good fortune and good luck

Atlas had finally got to the big oak table, on the table was a single book, ink well, lamp and a red orb with a metal claw attached to the orb, Atlas reached out for the plush chair to turn it around so he could sit down, as he turned the chair some thing fell out, looking on the floor where the thing had dropped Atlas found rags, bones and dust in a pile, it was a person and by how much of him was left it must have been there for many years

Atlas brushed the dirt and dust of the chair in to the pile that was on the floor, he sat him self at the chair and pulled him self to the table, he went to pick up the book on the table and brushed the lamp on the table, the light brightened up, the lamp was made from moon stone and any little energy applied to the stone was converted in to light

The book on the table was thick and bound by dark red leather on the front was a title

Diary of Dr Alberich master of Alchemy and Enchanting

Atlas turned the first page

My name is Dr Alberich and i've decide to cronolog my life in this dairy, my age at this time is 82 but i should start from the beginning, my name wasn't always Alberich in fact my birth name is Cobbler, i was born in the Kingdom of Ledern in the market district. My life in the early years were pleasant and peaceful, as a child born in to a family with there own business meant that i didn't have to work at a early age........

Atlas skipped ahead

At the age of 16 years my father tried to make me join the family profession as a cobbler and when i denied him i was told to find a profession by both of my parents, from those words i agreed and went out in to the city to find my destiny. Funny enough i found it with in the hour

As i was walking down the main street i found my self witnessing a tall, graceful, pale skin, male elf, this was a shock and not just me but any one looking at the elf, back in those days us humans were wary of non humans and here was a elf walking down the street with what looked like a air of nobleness

This didn't go down well with the people, there hate and distrust for non humans were still fresh in there minds, at the time i didn't understand due to my good life up to now but about 50 years ago there was a war between humans and other species for land or other things depending who you ask, anyway as the elf walked down the street he was attacked with stones and swears, and i think this is where i made a fortunate mistake

Being a free child i didn't know about fear and pain in any great means so that was the reason i stood up to the people and tried to shame them but before i even finished my sentence a stone hit me in the face and more after that, all i could do was roll up in a ball and hope the stones would stop soon, after what seemed like minutes but was in fact just a couple of seconds the stones stopped, i was beat up but the person i was trying to protect ended up protecting me, in fact the stones hadn't stopped but the elf had equipment that protected him form projectiles, he picked me up and carried me to were he was going, i passed out

When i awoke i was surrounded with beautiful gold framed pictures and plush furniture but also a couple of big well armoured men, it had turned out that i was taken to the palace by the elf and he was looking after the king with potions and magic, back in those days potions weren't as well developed as to day and good one were rare and the best ones need to be out source.

Atlas got board and skipped a 100 pages forward

I had just finished my studying with master Alberich when i decide to go back to Kingdom of Ledern, the truth was i had much to learn but being a human i had a limit amount of time unlike the long lived elfs, for my own reasons i took a new name and due to my love and respect for my master i adopted his, from that point on i was known as Dr Alberich at this time my age was 47, word got out quickly of a human who trained under a master potion maker and enchanter and i was summoned to see the king who offered a post in his royal palace, i was pleased that my efforts in the past 30 odd years were recognized but i didn't what to work alone but teach what i had learnt, i explained this to the king and he agreed, he change his offer, he offered a deed to land and a building within the city which i humbly excepted, the first thing i did was set up a school of Alchemy and the only restrictions were that you had to be cleaver and precise, i allowed any one to enter as long as they had talent

A few more pages were flipped over by Atlas

The Alchemy guild is a great success, after years of training my students they are now self sufficient, in fact they make a lot of money making potions, i my self have made a huge amount of gold which i have invested in a school for enchanting, the rules i set up for Alchemy will be the same foe Enchanting school after all to reach the higher levels of each skill you need the other

Atlas scanned the page

I found some gifted people to learn enchanting and even the king sent some royalty to learn...

Atlas turned some more pages without reading

This day is a most disappointing day, it turns out that the students i have picked are being pushed out by the royal students with money or threats and being replaced with other low royalty and state men's like a lords bastard son, they have huge self-esteem and self-importance just because they are related to royalty, the conceit in there voices when they found out that i was born in a craft family can be heard with ease, to them it doesn't matter if i was a grand master who made the sun if i'm not royalty then i'm below them.

Once i found a low duke's bastard son picking on a farmers son who i picked as a student by throwing gold coins at him as hard as his servants could, the farmers boy left the next day, with this undeniable evidence i expelled the bastard son the same day, the students didn't want to stay and be bullied, all the other non royal connected people left the guild so there was only the royals

My so called students have ended up calling them self's The Royals, if it was just there bad behaviour then i could take students in my own time, but i got a message from the king ordering me to take back the bastard son back, after a couple of days of trying to explain what had happened and that by taking him back would undermined my power and cause the students to lose the little amount of respect i have from them, i foresee that i will no longer be able to teach them

A new message from the king came, so much disappointment filled my heart, the king has ordered that the enchantment guild will now be state approved and only people with royal blood or royalty approved will be admitted, i found it hard to believe that the king who supported me and the Alchemy guild for all these years is now turning on me

With a lot of money i found out that the king is being pressured into decisions supporting my students by there parents and people with power

A year has gone by and i have refused to teach any more, i rarely leave my home any more, my only pleasure is that the Enchanted guild will never raise above intermediate level, i have warned the Alchemy guild not to mix with the Enchanters just to make sure that this doesn't happen to them

This explained the reaction Atlas got from the Enchanters guild when he was taught there, all of them were arrogant and at the end of Atlas training he got the impression that they were going to kill him

I have decide to leave the kingdom and carry on with my own research, i have neglected my research for extended life for too long now, i have found a cave 45 minutes away from the city so if needs be i can return, i haven't told any one about my new home due to the misfortune of my students but i won't be alone, i have decide to bring fish men with me, their blood and bones make great potions ingredients and their fat can remove the negative effects in potions

Atlas skipped to the end to see how it ended

I can feel the end, i have spent my life working towards extending life and searching for the cure for death, the secrets of immortality, i have master Alchemy and Enchanting hopping to find away to defeat death but now i think that by dividing my attention between the two crafting skills i have failed to gain grand master on either one where the secrets of internal life could of been. i have no true students or children to pass my great knowledge to and i fear that my work will be lost to the ages, my emotions are getting the best of me, my hopes at finding someone, anyone with talent to take my role is causing me pain and making my remaining time alive shorter and more brutal. It may take years, even decades for anyone to find this place after my death but i will enchant the room and door with my most powerful enchantment that i know so only people with mastery in Alchemy or Enchanting can enter and take advantage

Time has gone by and my thoughts go back to the restrictions i placed on the door, i have decide to bring down my exceptions so that any one with the combined skills of Alchemy and Enchanting in intermediate can pass as well, i have also placed enchantments and secret Alchemy liquids on the books to help with teaching my new student, by making the potions and applying it to the pages will help with training and show the next step in training and skills, i will do the same for the enchantment books, this will allow me to sort of teach my new student and pass on my knowledge even if i'm not there, i have released the fish men from there cages, i have no need for them and it would be a waste just to have them die in there cages, perhaps a adventurer will be drawn to this cave because of the fish men, i can only hope

"Ding"

Atlas was in the middle of reading and so he paid the message no attention

If you are reading this then you have passed the doors test, the books for you training are placed in the desk, i will leave you my transmutation orb, this orbs description is in the training books and how to use it, this is my last hope, i'm so very tired, this is going to be my last written message, at the last message i am 132 years old master of Alchemy and Enchanting, i'm have very little regrets and i fell pride in my arts and in my self, special thanks to my master who i love and respect

Atlas placed the dairy back down on the table and checked the pile of bones, dust and scrapes of robes that had survived

"Identify" said Atlas

The remains of the Great Dr Alberich, a great teacher who lost hope with his students and secluded him self off from the people that tried to use his teaching to gain power and not knowledge

The remaining robes used to be a master Alchemy robe that had poison resistance of 100% but now only has a small part of the poison resistance left, the robe is so badly damage that it can't be repaired

Atlas went to one of the tables that was in the centre of the room and placed he's bags on top of the table, he removed planks, tools and nails from the bag and made a simple wooden box, he place the remains of Dr Alberich in the box, all except the tattered ruined robe, both the box with Dr Alberich and the robes were placed in his bag

Atlas returned back to the desk, he's thoughts wondered to how convenient it was that he had Alchemy and Enchanting skills but no master and had no plans to go looking for them, perhaps the game realized this and made a new situation for him to continue learning and advancing his skills, the desk that he was at had many different draws but only one was unlocked, in it was two thick books, one looked like a normal book and the other had magical energy in it, he assumed that the non magical one was for Alchemy and the magical one was for Enchanting and had an enchantment on it

Atlas tried to opened the enchantment book but was unable to, Atlas recalled that Dr Alberich had put tests on it to help with his enchantment skills, placing his hand over the book Atlas remove the enchantment on the book and place it on to the lamp

"Ding"

You have learned the enchantment Seal

Atlas opened the book

Congratulations, to open this book you need one of two skills, Enchantment displacement or Enchantment destruction, both of these skills you will learn now as well as one more enchantment skill called Daze, to learn the skills place your hand on this page and say learn

Atlas knew the technique of Enchantment displacement but never had the skill, he did what the book asked of him

"Learn" said Atlas

Enchantment Displacement

The ability to move enchantments from one oddity to anther, when the enchantment is moved it is also learnt by the user of the skill

low level enchantments only, higher level in this skill will allow higher level enchantment displacement

Enchantment Destruction

The skill allows Enchantments to be destroyed

Any enchantments the user has made can be destroyed from afar

10 meters radius around the user, all enchantments the player made is destroyed, cost 500 mana

To destroy others enchantments touch is needed it cost 1000 mana

Daze

Enchanting the air around you dazes any human with in 5 meters,

cost 100 mana and last a different amount of time depending on the person

The next couple of pages seemed to instruct how enchanting works and the 7 laws of enchantment which Atlas knew already, there was a list of equipment that an a enchanter needed and Atlas found them on one of the tables in the centre of the room, he placed them in his bag, Atlas closed the enchanting training book and opened the Alchemy one, the first page had a simple line of ingredients and a way to prepare it

Atlas grab some chalk and acid from his bag and left the oak table, he was searching for a herb in the many jars on the wall, seeds, herbs, weeds and all types of different things were in the jars but Atlas was looking for a herb called Lady's Mantel, when he found the yellow flora, green herb he took a leaf from the jar and start to crush the chalk and mix a small amount of the acid, the herb was lightly bruised and water was added, the by product was a green liquid that smelled of bleach, he added it with the acid solution

Atlas whipped the Alchemy training page lightly with a clean rag and the new solution, a few moments went by before the words appeared

Congratulations on mixing the correct solution to bring up the invisible ink in this page, further concoctions will be more difficult and need better more delicate equipment but in till then here are the skills needed to start your training, place your hand on the page and say learn

Atlas did so "Learn"

Taste identifier

Using this skill grants the user to identify the ingredients in potions, poisons, or things that are similar, when this skill is in use all potions, poisons and such have less affect

Catalysis

Catalysis speeds up the brewing process, time taken to brew will decrease with higher levels

There didn't seem to be any offensive skills in Alchemy but Atlas reasoned that the potions them self could be used to attack, with that in his mind Atlas packed the two books away to read and discover their secrets later, before leaving Atlas check the two place he hadn't been to yet, the first was a cellar that had extra supply's such as seeds and herbs, they were packed in draws and chests but the containers had a special enchantment that Atlas couldn't destroy, identify or displace

Atlas left the cellar, the ingredients were too high level for him and he hadn't learnt enough about the herbs he could use, now the only place that Atlas hadn't gone was the living quarters of Dr Alberich, the living quarters was a small room with a straw bed in the corner, a table with a light next to the bed, a chest at the foot of the bed and a wardrobe, Atlas checked the wardrobe but couldn't open it due to an enchantment that was well above he's head at the moment.

Atlas opened the chest next, no enchantment was on it and when Atlas opened the chest he found a note

To whom it may concern,

The life of a Enchanter or/and an Alchemy user is a hard one with out physical strength that people in the craft class don't usually have death will be around most corners, you will need to find different herbs and catalyst to increase both skill and some will be in monster filled dungeons or swaps that will suck you down to it's core but do not worry i have left a memento of my master, when i left his side to follow my own path he knew that trouble wouldn't be far off and made me one of my prized possessions, under this note is my life saver

Atlas flipped the note over and pulled out the item that was covered with cloth, unwrapping it he found a belt that had a metal gold looking lion on the front of the belt and a orange metal tiger on the back it also had a leather harnesses that went over his shoulders and under his legs

"Identify" said Atlas

Biting Belt, Durability 30/60. Defense: 5

A belt made by the grand master Alberich for his apprentice, it has a low defence but it's design was not meant for defence but for avoiding attacks, when enchantment energy is passed thought the belt the head of the lion or tiger will detach and be propelled, the heads will attach them self's to the thing they hit by biting down, the heads are attached to the belts by an vine that's is incredibly tough

The belt can attach to walls ceilings and other things and pull the user to said wall, ceiling and other, a grappling hook that will save the user if used correctly

Requires: Level 25, the skill Enchanting (any level)

Effects: +20 Agility

Atlas put on the Biting belt and tighten the straps, he wanted to test the belt out but thought better of it because of all the breakable objects around him, now that Atlas had looked all over the lab he packed some items away and looked at his message

Do you want to learn Great Beast skill Water Breathing Of The Blind Fish

Atlas didn't understand, he checked the messages

Your understanding of the fish men have given you the ability to learn a Great Beast Skill from them

Requires: Understanding the body of the fish men

Understanding the nature of the fish men

Understanding the survival instincts of the fish men

Understanding the origins of the fish men

Atlas understood now, a great beast skill could be learnt by learning a lot about the species that held one of the skills

"Yes i want to learn the skill Water Breathing Of The Blind Fish" said Atlas

"Ding"

Water Breathing Of The Blind Fish

Allows the user to breath under water but at the cost of eye sight, the more advance the skill the clearer the eye sight will be

The skill was good but just like his other Great Beast Skill there was a negative side to it, "oh well some thing is better than nothing" said Atlas

Atlas left the lab safe in the knowledge that only he knew where it was and possibly only he could enter, when he was out side of the lab he buried the box with Dr Alberich remains near the door he had to do this out side of the lab because it was enchanted stopping him from harming the room, he cut some moonstone from the cave walls to make a tombstone

Hear lies the remains of Dr Alberich

A student

A teacher

and a master

"Ding"

Due to your efforts with the gnolls, the respect you have shown life and death , the unusually way you refuse to kill with out reason The small god of the land has witnessed your efforts, and has decided to grant one wish to Atlas
