Tec Mage Chapter Eleven: Class And Goodbyes
A new day had started and Atlas had came back from the bank, he's plans for to day was to get a class from the mage's guild, the money was for skill books or buying the class, Atlas didn't know what to expect, on the way back from the bank Atlas also bought 2 magical bags that aloud you too carry more despite size and weight, Atlas all the food he prepared yesterday when he was making the forge, all the food he made was simple, boiled eggs in a glass jar 10 of them, dried meat 4 paper bags, 7 wheels of cheese, 4 jars of chopped up vegetables in a brim solution, Atlas also packed some potato 4 bags, and 7 jars of slightly burnt jam, butter and bread.
In the other bag was Atlas tools from making the scarecrows and the tools he used for cutting stone, he also picked up a hammer and tongs set and finally Atlas had picked up 4 cheap copper spears and a iron bracelet
It was still early morning when Atlas woke up his apprentices
"Morning" Atlas said, he handed the spears to each his apprentices and placed the iron bracelet on Forge neck, just over his spikes he had on his back so it wouldn't slip off
Forge tail was twitching with delight as he saw Atlas in till he tried to move "owaa its too heavy, i can't move very well" said Forge
Atlas apologize to Forge, "i'm sorry but this is to make you stronger and when you get used to it, you won't notice it, finally when the metal heats up you will be able to move further away from your oven"
"Can't you take me with you" asked Forge while looking up to Atlas with his black shiny eyes
"I would love to but my Avatar of fire isn't high enough to support you and you still can't survive without heat" replied Atlas, the look on Forge face was heart breaking, he didn't want to be left alone
"I'll bring something nice for you when i get back, but in till then why don't you have some thing to eat" Atlas hadn't turned off his Avatar of fire and the skill had reached level 2 so he feed Forge
After Atlas feed Forge with yesterdays soup and as much mana Forge could take, he made his way to the mage guild with Dracken who looked stony faced, Atlas couldn't read his face but Dracken had been understanding but not a push over, right from the beginning he had made sure there was no raw deal going on but hadn't complained. Mary face looked confused, maybe she was thinking why she had to be a mage. Kevien looked happy but Atlas did a double take, Kevien's face had a look of a manic, happy and confused or maybe nervous
When they got to the door of the guild Atlas explained that having a class will give them better stats and if they didn't like it just keep it in till a better class was offered, at this thought Atlas wonder if you mastered a skill and had a class connected to the skill like mastering blacksmithing and had a class called blood blacksmith and wanted to change class, would you lose all skills connected to the class or would it mean you couldn't gain any more skills, or further the skills you all ready had, Atlas put this thought to the back of his mind for later
The building Atlas and the kids entered was a rectangular and each corner of the shape lead to a tower, "how may i help you" asked a young lad wearing a blue robe
Atlas greeted the lad in blue and explained he was here for a class change
The young lad called Matthew had seen many people come in for a class change but never this many at the same time in the same party "We do things different in this mage's guild" said Matthew "each person gets a test of strength to decipher what kind of magic that person will most benefit
"Can you give me a example" said Atlas
Kevien gave a snort, Atlas wasn't sure what's Kevien problem was, not only was he getting what he wanted but it was happening fast
Atlas pushed Kevien away from the group in till they were alone in a corner "do you have some thing to say" asked Atlas
Almost instantly Kevien started with the attitude "No"
"That's good" Atlas step to the side but then turned around fast and towered over Kevien "because i'm getting real tired of your shit right now" said Atlas in a gruff voice, it was the voice he used when people at work got a bit heated and forgot he was the boss because he looked young. This action threw Kevien, he hadn't seen Atlas behave like this before, even when dealing with brutes and the dwarf he had a calm voice
Atlas walked back to Matthew, "carry on" said Atlas
Matthew was looking at the kid who just disrespected Atlas, he looked smaller some how, Matthew only thought that if he did that to his master he would be lucky to get a smack around the head and may even been turned in to some thing.... unrecognisable for a day
"mmm ohhh, right what i mean is that if you specialize in close combat magic, then we may give you spells like shield or possible long distance spell, it all depends what you do in the test"
Atlas thought that sounded useful, but seeing as each person had a special test and different spells given to them at the end the cost was 2 gold per person taking the test, you could just get the standard test which involved the check to see if you had enough wisdom or intelligence to be turned in to a mage, which didn't cost anything but you had to buy from a very small section of spells books
Atlas handed over 8 gold and he was separated from the group as they all went to there own test, Atlas entered one of the towers but was told to go down into the basement, as he walked down he saw a door and pushed open the door and saw a grand hall with a large sand pit and boulders in the middle, there at one side was brown skinned man
"Get down here" shouted the brown skinned man
Atlas meet up with him "good morning sir"
The man looked him up and down "this is your test" the man started to say "i will attack you and you will, defend or attack back anyway you can think of. Any questions"
"What about health and time limit" asked Atlas
"You don't have to worry about me, i'm level 200
Atlas wasn't thinking about him but himself "and i will hold back the power" said the man
Atlas put his three bags down, but kept his spear
"you have 5 seconds before i start, oh and you can give up when ever just shout stop" shouted the man
Atlas had no chance of winning a level 3 against a level 200 was like a ant killing a giant, so Atlas decide to avoid his attacker and attack back when he could
Atlas fired a mana missile at the brown skinned man, only to be blocked by a mana shield "great" said Atlas sarcastically, with that done the old man started to manifest his own magic missile, his looked smother and he manifested them faster, he fired it off in Atlas direction, Atlas rolled out of the way and the missile missed him, Atlas was on his knees and as he looked at the brown skinned man he realised he had all ready manifested two more magic missile
"How disappointing" Atlas heard the man say
Atlas didn't have time to back away and he was still on his knees, the man fired off his missiles at Atlas, but before the missiles could leave the shield area of the man, Atlas used Perceptual Chronometer, a skill that slows down the perspective of time alloying for more time to think, he then used Precise Magic Missile and fired them directly at the robed man missiles, causing an explosion near Atlas, with the explosion Atlas pushed off the ground and used the blast to move away, with the blast, Atlas easily manage to roll to a boulder to protect him self and to cut line of sight between the two, but the man had seen him roll to the boulder and started to pelt the boulder with magic missile, the rock was getting ever smaller with each missile
Atlas looked over the boulder and almost had his head blown off, ducking down again he released he needed to cut the line of sight, Atlas manifested more mana missile, he could hear the man sighing but instead of firing them at the man, Atlas fired them at the ground cause a huge amount of dirt, dust and sand in the air, Atlas rolled of to a different boulder under the cloud of dust protection, within seconds the dark skinned man had used a wind spell to move the dust away so he could see but now the man didn't know where Atlas was
Now that the man didn't know where Atlas was he changed his attack, by bring his hands together a mid range wide distance spell was created, a flame throwing spell, Atlas was close to the man and to his spell but Atlas had a thought, if he's being protected with his shield then how is he using flame thrower, this was his chance to fight back
Atlas used mana flare right in front of the man's eyes blinding him, the man raised his arms to push the light out of his eyes and that's when Atlas jumped over the boulder and rushed the man with spear in hand, the man manage to push the light away and see Atlas coming straight to him, forgetting the overwhelming position he was in which was his shield and better robes his defence was so much higher he would take hardly no damage, he pulled down his flame thrower down and aimed it at Atlas
Atlas was engulfed in flames but Atlas trusted his spear at the man's hand, cutting his hand with the copper spear, this unexpected successful attack surprised the man, by instinct he used more power in the flame thrower, the man's flame thrower grew so large that it hit the other side of the arena, when the man realised what he had done he quickly stop the attack
The only thing that was left over was Atlas melted copper spear, the brown skinned man looked ashamed and worried, he was touching his face like he couldn't believe what happen, he looked at the melted spear and bent over to pick it up, Suddenly pain was pushed up his bum and he had left the ground flying forward head first in to the sand with his mouth opened,
The brown skinned man after landing turned around and started to spit the sand out he had taken in when he went head first in to the sand "wha.. sput" he had stopped because there was Atlas standing with burnt clothes and with black marks and burn marks on him, at this point the man noticed how dark Atlas eyes were and how foreboding he looked
"WHAAAT... HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE" shouted and the dark skinned man
"I give up" said Atlas, he had given it his all, and knew nothing he could do would work, the level was just too great, Atlas offered his hand to the man on the floor and when the robed man took it Atlas pulled him up
"How did you survive" asked the man
Atlas went on to explain his skill, mana defection, and that when his spear started to melt he dropped it and retreated down the cone of fire in till he could find a boulder to hide behind, and at that point Atlas just waited in till the dark skinned man was distracted. After the explanation the man wanted to see Atlas skills and stats
"I'm not to sure if i should show you" said Atlas
The man explained that he needed to see what kind of skills he had so he could judge what skill books to give him, Atlas understood and showed the robed man what he wanted
"That's a good skill you got there, and you even have a skill i've not seen before....." he was referring to Avatar of fire skill, he was looking over his stats and with each passing second he was more confused, he was just about to ask why he was so weak in till he saw what level he was
"Level 3, your only level 3" the brown mage was shocked, at this level he shouldn't be able to stand against him, let alone fight so well, at this relation the brown skinned mage started to laugh loudly while patting Atlas on the back "you will make a great mage"
Ding
You have been offered a class, will you except
Atlas didn't need to think it over, this was just what he wanted "yes, i except"

"Well done, well done, that was a good fight young man, what's your name" asked the dark skinned man
"Atlas, sir" Atlas held out his hand
"Well my name is Noah" he grabbed Atlas hand
"Well as promised lets get your skill books" said Noah, Atlas was lead to a big cupboard that was built into the wall and had a grand glowing padlock, Noah noticed Atlas looking hard at the padlock
"Nice isn't it" Noah brushed his finger along the key hole, the padlock wobbled and the glow descended into nothing, "it's made from platinum and enchanted, high level too," Noah unlocked the padlock and handed it to Atlas, "it's near indestructible and can not be picked"
Atlas was looking over the lock but now the glow had faded it looked like a normal lock, "how is it done, what's it benefits" Atlas was still looking at the lock while talking to Noah
"Interested in enchanting" asked Noah "the benefits are huge.... if you put the time and effort in to the skill", Noah had opened the cupboard and in side was packed with skill books and hanging on the door was different colour robes, after 10 minutes looking though the sheaves Noah handed 4 skill books to Atlas and a blue green robe "according to your skills stats and how you fought i've picked these spells for you"
Before Atlas looked at his newly gained books he had to find something out, "umm master"
"Yes" Noah was smiling broadly
"Why is my mana missile clear, where my apprentices are fire" asked Atlas
"Oh that, it's nothing to be worried about, it just means you'r not aligned to any elements" explained Noah, he went on to say that most people are aligned to a element which though out there lives they naturally gravitated to and it gave them a small boast in spell power but only to that element
"Does that means my spell power is weaker" asked Atlas
"Yes and no, if you are aligned to fire then fire maybe stronger but ice and water power is weaker where wind and earth elements are neutral, but your mana is clean mana and is neutral to all elements, in other words you get no boast in power but you get no handy cap on other elements
It made sense Atlas thought, he took off his burnt beginners outfit and pulled the robe over his neck, the robe gave a +10 to wisdom and intelligence with a 3 to defence, there seemed to be no restriction on the robe, Atlas now had a look at his spells that was given to him
Skill book of Clay Hand: a hand of earth erupts from the ground, a flexible and powerful magic
Skill book of Ice Walk: when activated the user has a trial of ice behind
Skill book of Fire Trap: a small fire ring that ignites after some time or can be used as a proximity mine
Skill book of Ball Of Fog: a concealment skill, fires a ball of fog that on contact or after some time expands and fog rolls in from the sphere
Atlas approved of these skill, all of them had potential but he noticed there was no direct attack skill there, he asked Noah about it
"Well, you did a good job, ok you can have two more low level skill books" said Noah
Atlas thanked Noah and decided to pick fire ball and the skill that was used against him, Gust.
Atlas went on to explain why he chose gust, he fully understood that gust was more a defence skill and wanted Noah to understand that he wasn't taking the piss " gust seems to have many great applications to it and you used it in a useful way"
"I understand, no need to explain, it's a good choice" Noah was still feeling guilty and impressed with Atlas to deny he's choices "hold on just for a second"
Noah went to a desk near the cupboard and pulled out a scroll, Atlas watched as Noah worked with the ink and finally poured wax on the rolled up scroll and placed his ring finger knuckle on top of it
Finishing up Noah handed the scroll to Atlas "this is so you can get accepted to learn enchanting, you will need this if you want to learn the skill", at this point he started to rub the back of his head "the enchanters don't teach anyone, unless there part of the family, also they are a bit full of them self, cough cough" said Noah
"Why did you cough just then" asked Atlas
"No reason, no reason" Noah was smiling nervously
"Something is going on here" pointed out Atlas
"mmmm ok here's the truth, they are asses most of them, you got to pander to there pride just to get the simplest things, the fact that most of them are so stuck up, even the slightest things can up set them and cause them to stop working and because there are only a small amount of good enchanters they have us over a barrel, Noah was on a rant
Atlas wanted to be a enchanter, it seemed like magic and enchanting go hand in hand and there was a huge market for it, but the behaviour of the enchanters sounded terrible
Atlas asked were the enchanters practised there art, it turned out it was right next door
"Can my apprentices learn with me" asked Atlas
"Um no, like i've said they are uptight and they will only except you because of my recommendation and even though they would deny it, they owe me" said Noah
Atlas and Noah made there way back up to meet with the kids, when they got to the top Atlas could see Mary using her magic, it seems that the magic she was using was connected to physical and elemental power, Dracken was talking with the receptionist Matthew and Kevien was playing with a fire ball
"Did everyone get there class" asked Atlas
All three noded, Atlas was looking at Kevien, he had made he's decision
"Noah, are you takeing any apprentices" asked Atlas
"I'm not but there's always some one, maybe a apprentices will be looking for a apprentices" replide Noah
Atlas was a bit confused and asked what Noah meant
"When a apprentices gets to a certain level in the skills he/she has, they are aloud to take an apprentices to help them with future studys and the teachers help to raise the pupil" said Noah
"Thank you master, that has given me a good ideal" Atlas then moved on to Kevien
"Kevien, KEVIEN, Atlas had to raise his voice
"Mmmm, yea" Kevien didn't even look at Atlas
"You and me just don't get along, so how about you take a apprenticeship here, after all you want to be famous and a mage" said Atlas
Kevien looked up at Atlas and extinguish his fireball, he was so quiet but then he blurted out "YESS" Kevien was visibly excited but Mary looked sad and fidgety, Dracken looked like he didn't care
"You have to understand that your apprenticeship will be over with me and i wont pay you any more, but you can keep the gifts i gave you" said Atlas
Kevien was looking hard at Atlas and then said "what gifts" he's face had distorted and twisted in to a disgusted face
Atlas wanted to give him a slap, but he kept he's cool after all being bitten by a mad dog the problem isn't solved by biting back
Ding
"The boots, the spear, and" but before Atlas could finish what he was saying Kevien had cut in front of him
"I didn't ask you for them, i can give them back" mouned Kevien
"And the books you just learned from, are you going to give those back" Atlas didn't care any more, he just wanted to get ride of him, a single bad apple can rot the lot
Ding
When Atlas had finished talking, Kevien had gone all quiet, it was obvious to Atlas that Kevien didn't want to give his other books or the money it took to pay for the test back
"Let's just go our separate ways, and you can keep the gifts" repeated Atlas
Atlas held his hand out to shake with Kevien and with a grudge he accepted it
Mary, and Dracken said there good byes to Kevien "This isn't the end, you can still go visit him, it's not like we live in different city" explain Atlas
Noah watched Atlas, Dracken and Mary leave, "How was he" asked Matthew
"The best i've seen for awhile" replaid Noah
"That powerful" asked Matthew
"No, he had two spells and both of them were low level but he used them in different ways" remarked Noah
Matthew had no ideal what happened but he rarely ever saw his master this impressed
"Yes, i think that boys skill is in tactical fights, he knew when to retreat and when he couldn't do any more he gave up
Out side of the mages guild, Atlas gave 5 gold to Mary to buy as much iron ore and a couple of clay moulds it was time to make some money using the blacksmith skill
When she had left Atlas turned to Dracken "what are you doing with your self" asked Atlas, as soon as he said it he felt stupid
Dracken scratched him self "not much, at the moment i'm developing a information network", Dracken went on to explain how he started and who was involved
"That's a good ideal and you started in a good way" said Atlas, he handed Dracken 5 gold as well, "this money is to help you, also i think you should visit the rogues and thief guilds so you can gain the sneak and hide skills, maybe go and get your self a library card"
"Why" asked Dracken
"There is always some information in books, you could sell the information on where a undiscovered dungeon is" replied Atlas
"UMM it sounds like a good ideal, i think i will do that but if the dungeon is undiscovered then why would it be in a book" said Dracken
Atlas was shocked how stupid he sounded "you'r completely right about that, but it still holds true, there information worth selling in books"
Dracken had his plan and went on his way, Atlas decided to go to the enchanter straight away, as Atlas walked in to the enchanters place, he assumed it was the enchanters because it had no title or plaques out side, the only reason Atlas went there was because Noah said so
As Atlas entered the building he was welcomed by a shouting man "WHO THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU", Atlas rolled his eyes and thought, not again
