Chapter Six

Despite what you had promised yourself during lunch, you couldn't get yourself to focus during Geography. You asked Mrs. Meadows to help your grade and to talk to you when she had the time, but nothing happened during class. Right before the bell rang to the last period of the day, your teacher, Mrs. Meadows, came up to talk to you, looking slightly hopeful, but stern.

"(Y/n), do you mind staying talking to me before you head to your last class?" she asked you.

"Y-yes, ma'am," you stuttered, standing up with your backpack. She led you to the back of classroom her free period class filed in.

"(Y/n), I didn't want to call it out during class, but you weren't paying much attention and your grade dropped due to the last project meaning you can't afford to do that. What's keeping you pre-occupied?" You couldn't tell her what you were thinking about, you looked crazy enough already.

"U-uhm...," you noticed the group of visitors walking your way, including surprisingly Scout and Soldier. The gym was right next to the lunchroom, meaning that they just walked around with the group. Much to your dismay, they stopped to listen when Dell gestured to you. Why do they care so much about me, you cried in your head.

"Well? What is it? (Y/n), you have finished your English, Science, and Math years all with a 100%. We're less than a week away from Summer. I can give you work to raise your grade, but you have to work possibly into the night to raise it to the 100% you want."

"I'll do it."

"I was hoping you'd say that, I'll let you do the extra work. I've emailed you the documents."

"I'll start as soon as I can. May I leave for my free period?" She made eye-contact a bit longer before waving you away to your last period.

You walked out of the classroom full of whispering kids and past the visitors with your head held high and not sparing them a passing glance. You heard the group slowly follow you through the empty hallway, but you just walked faster.

You slipped inside the gym, the school making the free period kids drop off their stuff in a classroom to prevent kids from misplacing them while they roam their grade's halls. You noticed everyone in your free period "class" looking extremely tired. I guess it was gym...heh, I don't blame them. You clumsily set your bag down against the far wall from the main "entrance" of the gym while Tiana bounded up to you with Kathryn close behind.

"Heyyyy!" She screamed in your face, her energy coming back full force.

"Hey," you said.

"What's wrong? You aren't saying much. That means something's wrong." she asked grabbing your shoulders. You faintly heard a pair of doors open in the background.

"It's nothing, I'm fine. Mrs. Meadows gave me a lot of work, but I can raise my grade."

"THAT'S AWESOME! LET'S GO TELL EVERYBODY!." You heard a light scoff, but when you looked to see who it was Tiana jumped in front of you, completely blocking your view.

"Hurry up and stop being so introverted you goof." You had to bark a laugh at that. "Can you help me and Kathryn at math?"

"I thought we were going to 'tell everybody,' and why not get a tutor?"

"Jamie and Danielle need help too, and you're free!" She shouted. Kathryn joined her with a "Yeah!"

"Okay... what is it now?"

"Unit Circle."

You slightly groaned.

"What? Is it hard for you?"

"No, but it'll take a lot of explaining. Grab your computers and mine and let's go find Jamie and Danielle."

"Yay!" She jumped away, revealing who was behind her this whole time. The visitors stood there with mixed faces, some looking proud and one in particular boring his eyes into with disgust. You stared in shock and your face heated up.

Yet, before any one of you could speak, Tiana slammed your school computer into your hands and tugged you on the arm, pulling you as fast as she could only slowing down for Kathryn. Together, you three practically flew through the halls to where Danielle and Jamie usually meet with you. As usual, they were waiting there.

"Come on, let's start!" Tiana shouted with her usual enthusiasm shoving you down on the ground in between the four of your friends.

"Okay calm down girl!" You shouted back, and you opened your laptop to a notes' app, as their assignments wouldn't be present on your personal laptop. You saw the notification for Mrs. Meadow's email of assignments and smiled. "Alright, go to the first resource under the concept." They all did. "Now take these notes with me, and if you have questions, well, ask, okay?" They nodded.

Yet, just when you were about the press play on the video resource, the visitors finally caught up to you. You inwardly groaned. Why can't they leave me be to help my friends in peace?

Your friends looked confused as they sat down on the opposite side of the hall, even Dr. Ludwig which you thought was slightly funny with his lab coat. You forced yourself to give a small smile of slight confusion. They were always popping up around you.

"So, whatcha doin' there toots?" Scout asked before Dell.

"Well, we were-" Tiana started, her voice rising in volume, but you slapped a hand over her mouth before she could continue. You gave her a look to keep her from trying to speak again. You turned your attention to the five men.

"I am going to use my free period to help my friends in math," you answered him with a slightly serious look trying to compensate for how embarrassed you got earlier.

"Do ya need any help darlin'?" Dell asked you. You swore you could see a hopeful gaze behind his goggles. Seeing that made any annoyance go away and you gave him a gentle smile.

"If I can't get through to them, or her, mainly"- you pointed to Tiana and she slapped your hand and you chuckled a bit- "then I'll gladly take your help."

"So," you decided to turn the tables on them, "why are you here?"

"Because we were told to-" Mr. DeGroot slapped a hand over Soldier's mouth before he could reveal anymore and gave a forced-sounding laugh, struggling against Soldier to keep him quiet it seemed. You raised your eyebrow.

"Yar friend there tugged you away to quickly we couldn't ask if ya were okay," Mr. DeGroot quickly explained, finally letting the struggling Soldier get away.

"Uh-huh...alright then," you turned to the video and pressed play. "If you don't mind us, we'll start now."

Dell had helped along the way, which was very kind of him, because you had no idea on how to get it through Tiana's head that the whole trick to the Unit Circle was in your right hand. You, with the help of Dell, managed to get your friends ready for the test on Monday and they had all weekend to study with the notes you five, or six really, took. Yet, all the while you felt the judging gaze of Dr. Ludwig penetrate your entire being. He really unnerved you.

The bell rung just as you finished, closing your computer and standing up.

"What do ya do now?" Dell asked the group regarding the bell.

"We go back to the gym to pack up and wait by our assigned bus numbers until they are called," you answered him.

"That's what da numbers on the walls were," Scout concluded, and you nodded.

You started walking with everyone following back into the gym. By this point, you didn't even care they stared at you the entire time while you packed up, you just wanted to get away from Dr. Ludwig's stare and home.

"Well, we need ta report back ta... home ourselves, so see ya later toots!" Scout called, catching himself and walked away. The other visitors nodded before saying goodbye and walking out themselves. Just before Dr. Ludwig walked out completely, he gave you one last look, and left.

"Geez what was that about?" Kathryn asked and the rest of you shrugged.

"I guess he just hates kids," Jamie said, giggling as you swung the bag over your shoulder and soon, your worrying thoughts returned to you.

"Yeah...," You absent-mindedly said, chuckling a bit before coming back to reality when your bus number was called. "Well, bye guys!" You called as you scurried off to the bus ramp, hearing the goodbyes from your friends.

What weird people... I hope they didn't mean me as "You-know-who," I might be imagining it, but I swore they kept looking at me when they said it.... I'll have to keep my guard up for now on....
