Chapter Seven

The bus ride home was uneventful, and you were barely able to keep a conversation with Alia, who was trying to tell you about her fixed Alice art. She didn't seem to notice though as you were drifting off into your thoughts every so often. After you waved goodbye to her and Aiden, you started walking home, surprisingly noticing that you didn't feel someone watching you. Heck, with what's happened today that man at the bus stop could have been real.

Walking down your street, you hear a few cars pass like every normal afternoon. You stepped over a crack and nearly tripped, causing yourself to look around to see if you were caught fumbling around. Unfortunately, you were. A very fancy-looking black car was driving slowly beside you. Ignoring your embarrassment, you became disturbed. The windows were tinted, meaning you couldn't see inside. Composing yourself, you scratched the back of your neck, chuckling, and waved them off. They slowly drove away, as if they didn't want to leave, and you once again felt that same feeling of being studied.

Waiting for the car to be long out of both your eyesight and hearing range, you rushed into your home feeling extremely unnerved and panicked. Nearly slamming the door behind you, you rested your head on the door and slowed your breathing feeling strangely like you had avoided something.

"How was your day sweetie?" a voice said from in front of you. You jumped a bit and put a smile on your face despite the sweat coating your palms.

"It was okay, Mom," you replied to the voice. Your mom gave you a questioning look.

"Is everything alright? You look like you ran a mile." You let out a chuckle.

"Actually, we did, my gym class, I mean. There were visitors at school today, and two of them were running gym class. They made us run a mile, do a crap ton of push-ups, and then do a wall sit for ten minutes. It was crazy."

"There were visitors at your school and we didn't know about this?" She put a hand on her hips.

"That's what I thought! There was one in math, two and gym, and two more in science!"

"Did you happen to know any of them?"

"No..., but I think they knew me."

"What do you mean?" Her eyes slightly narrowed.

"Well, though it might just be my imagination, they always seemed to be talking to me. Also, one of them knew my name even though I was sure I didn't tell him. They all had on a red-based outfit though, but maybe that's a visitor thing?"

"Do you really think it's a visitor thing?" She gave you a look that made you feel a bit stupid and you sighed.

"No, maybe they're a part of an organization or something, and that's their uniform...as weird as they look."

"Weird how?"

"Well, one of them had welding goggles and a hard hat on, though he said he was an engineer and it was math class... maybe they're trying to promote their field of studies. Like, one of them was a doctor, another was a chemist, one of them ran so fast and had such a high endurance that he could be training to be an Olympian, and the last one... he was very inspirational I guess." You shrugged.

"Hmmmm...," your mom shook her head a bit muttering something about the crazy people in this place. "Well, dinner's ready and your father should be home soon, so eat up and do whatever work you have planned for the day, alright?"

"Okay," you walked over to the kitchen and the stove after you set your backpack down, your worries almost forgotten. Your thoughts recapped on the man you thought you saw at the bus stop, math, gym, and science class, and the black car on your way home as you put the food on your plate and walked over to the dining table to sit down. You sat down and took a bite as you mind started coming up with theories. What if they're all here for something, or someone. What if that man at the bus stop was real? What if that car was following me? What if I'm in Danger? The rational part of your brain spoke: No, that's just stupid. What do I have that they would possibly need me for? Your worries took over again: Your math skills, your athleticism, what could they want? The rational part fought back: There are many people like that, though! ... It was strange though how they always seemed to be talking to you, but that could be your imagination. What if they're after you? What if they want to hold you hostage, or rape you, or kill you! What if-

"Hello!" Your father's voice brought your sanity back and caught you at reality before you could fall deeper into your possibilities. You shook yourself to gather your mind and gave a shaken laugh.

"Hey Dad," you waved, and he smiled.

"Hey Dad," your mom walked in from the living room. They kissed quickly, "How was work?"

"Just dealing with idiots and doing pointless work as usual, how was your day?" Your mom laughed at his reply.

"Well, I did the laundry, folded it, cooked dinner, and watched TV for the most of it, but (Y/n) had a strange day." He lifted an eyebrow.

"How so?"

"Well, some unannounced visitors came that we didn't hear the plan for. We think they may be a part of some organization." You noticed how she left out the "I think they know who I am and were talking to me while being dressed strangely part."

"Well, then, were they worth your while?"

You laughed, "Yeah, they were. Two of them made gym insane though, so I'm feeling really sore." He laughed.

"Well, finish your dinner. I'm going to have something to eat and do some more homework," he said, making his plate and taking it upstairs. Your mother shook her head.

"That man is a lot like you, you know (Y/n)? You can never catch a break from work, but it'll pay off eventually. I want to help him, but he insists on letting me be a stay-home mom," your mother shook her head. "Oh, remember that tomorrow we're going to Bass Pro Shops for that gun-safety thing, alright? You're getting closer to being able to take courses on how to use one, so we're doing this." Oh, right.

"The one attached to the mall, or-" she cut you off.

"The one attached to the mall, now put your plate in the sink." You did as you were told, the ache of gym finally hitting you.

"I think I'll just go to bed early."

"Early? (Y/n) it's only five o'clock, what about the work you had planned?"

"Well, gym worn me out, I'm really tired, and I'm ahead enough I don't need to do it, so good night."

"Good night I guess," she chuckled as you put the dish in your sink and unpacked your backpack, putting the things away.

Heading upstairs and dressing for bed, you turned off all the lights and laid down in your bed. Much to your surprise, you found yourself falling asleep quickly. As you drifted off from consciousness, you had one last thought: Hopefully I can forget this day ever happened.
