Chapter 38
With ninja movement, I am able to climb the rocky peaks easily and advance further in the mountain. I use my x-ray vision combined with heat vision to try and find monsters or dragons, but I don't see anything.
I understand why they call it Obsidian Peaks now. All the snow on the mountain tops have been smelted and the underneath rock seared. I would hate to be under the fire of a dragon, but it brings up a good question. Would I be affected by fire magic? I'm not affected by normal fires like the torches or the smelter, so I don't know. I'll just have to find out, though not willingly.
Twenty minutes later, I see it. A magnificent and beautiful creature, dipping and diving in the air. It is huge and red, with tiny flames covering its entire body. In this instant, I am glad that I fight with a bow and wouldn't have to get up close to it.
As I move closer, I see that the dragon is in combat with non-other than the woman I saw the other day. It couldn't have taken her a whole day to get up here, so she must have been fighting that dragon for over 24 hours! That's crazy!
I get out my bow and nock three demon arrows. Like any other monster, I wanted to see how much damage a demon arrow did to it. With three, I would be assured that something on the dragon would be hurt.
The woman doesn't look like she can use magic, and is instead using a crossbow. Occasionally, she pulls a potion from her inventory and drinks it. I use Identification Vision on the potion bottles, and they are a mixture of Large Potion of Large Health, Large Potion of Large Stamina, and Large Potion of Large Fire Resistance. Attached to the arm not holding the crossbow, she has a green shield strapped.
If I fire at the right time, I should be able to hit the dragon at any height, so I just have to wait for an opportunity where my shot won't interrupt her. I think we name was Valery.
And so I wait, and I watch round after round of the dragon coming in to attack and Valery either dodging it or taking the hit with her shield. It is amazing how the shield withstands the blasts from the fire breath, and the way Valery holds her own against the physical attacks is just magnificent.

However, I don't know how much longer she can keep going. She's been fighting this dragon for probably over a day, unless she went to sleep after entering the dragon's realm. I have no way to tell, however, so I don't try to think about it too much, I just think of how I can help.
No, I don't want to kill-steal, I just want to be of some help.
Unfortunately, I don't have much choice. With a powerful hit from the dragon's claws, Valery is knocked backward and onto the ground, where she brings her shield up to cover her face and body as much as she could before the next strike.
In some majestic movement, the dragon flips itself over after hitting Valery, and for a moment it flies backward. While flying backward, the dragon shoots fire from its mouth and Valery, and I take my shot with the three demon arrows.
Voom. Voom. Voom. Crush. It didn't sound exactly like that, but the three arrows each went inside the dragon's mouth as fire was being thrown out, and must have hit something inside the dragon. I knew this because the dragon immediately fell over and hit the ground, hard.
Valey rolled over and took one look at me, then put her crossbow and shield away and took out her two swords. Their green metal shined brightly in the flickering flames of the downed dragon as Valery approached, and I knew the Fire Resistance potions were doing their job.
Valery further approached the dragon and stuck her blades into its side, but she was thrown back by a sudden movement of the dragon's wing. All I could do was watch as the dragon made a quick turn around and took a sizable bite out of the side of Valery.
