Typer’s room: Hello guys. Almost late, but barely on time, here is this chapter of Lia. That said, this is mostly a side story from a certain character’s PoV that I made for the heck of it and to mark the transition to the next arc of the story.
Anyway, I made this chapter only for fun, and while it does show a bit of plot points here and now, feel free to ignore this and go back to the main chapter in a couple of weeks. Any important plot points will be explained once the time is right.
Finally, this isn’t a chapter to be taken seriously under any circumstances. I don’t know if I made this point clear once I showed who was the character narrating, but better be safe. This chapter is made to be a caricature of reincarnates and such, so I went as cliché as possible before making fun of itself. Hope you guys enjoy this little side-track after the serious arc.
For those wondering, the story will resume in a couple of weeks (next week is Beepy)
As I said before, this is VASTLY a work in progress, and wasn’t made to be posted initially, so there might be some inconsistencies. If so, please do tell me, as I want to make it an enjoyable read ^^
May your reading be enjoyable.

My name is Hiiro Wakabayashi, and, as you can see, I am a Japanese.
No, wait. That's wrong. I WAS Hiiro Wakabayashi, now my name is Yulan. For some reason people seem to mistake me for somebody named Yulai who seems to be a noble, but to be honest I never met the poor sod.
Anyway, I mean that my name WAS Hiiro because I’m no longer the same person I was before.
No! Seriously! It’s not that I have chuunibyou or something like that, okay? It’s a lot more literal than what I mean!
Well, you see, I was this normal guy in school. Average looks, slightly better than average grades and slightly below when it came to physical qualities. Overall, I was pretty much the typical background character you find in anime. It was so bad that I had even given up on becoming the main character and didn’t even pass through a chuunii phase!
But then, a bit after I had my fifteenth birthday, where I had an ordinary cake with ordinary friends at my ordinary house, things suddenly went strange.
One day I was walking down a small street on the streets of Tokyo. It wasn’t really a well used nor well known road, but I didn’t really have much choice seeing how the usual street I used was now blocked due to some works.
So, while walking down said street a bit distracted thanks to a message I had received in my cellphone, it suddenly happened. You won’t believe me when I say, but, in a street that was barely wide enough for a car to pass…
CAME A TRUCK!
I mean, seriously! Who would have thought that a truck would even fit inside that street! It’s a closer fit than trying to pass a strand of hair through a needle!
Seeing the truck completely shocked, I tried turning around to run, but the truck was a lot faster than what the average me could be, so before long, I felt as the metal monster hit me on the back, and before long everything went dark.
By now I had pretty much given up on living and all. I mean, who survives getting hit by a truck out of all things? So when everything went dark I just kinda thought:
“Wow. Afterlife is a lot more boring than what I expected.”
I mean, who wouldn’t think the same after spending a few hours without having anything to do, see and hear?
“Not even two minutes have passed, you know?” Someone said to me. Surprised, I turned around, only to see what looked like a cool looking man wearing some ancient chinese clothing. With long white hair and a great white beard, he had this look of someone straight out from a martial arts movie! “Well, I am the god of Spirits, so it’s no wonder such a thing happened.” WAAAH! He read my mind!
Well, let me cut the story short since it’s a bit too long and boring. After some time, said god (he called himself Shen something, I didn’t really pay too much attention to be honest.) went and started making many other people appear around me. All of them being around my age, being at most three years older or younger.
There were even some really cute girls here and there, so I quickly lost my attention while looking at them.
Shen-sama quickly scolded me (with telepathy, so the others wouldn’t hear it. THANKS SHEN-SAMA!) and I quickly turned back to him and payed attention to what he was going to say.
From the little I understood, it seemed that we all had been marked to be reincarnated in a world where martial arts are power or something like that. Each and every one of us would receive a blessing from one of the gods lesser gods from that world and would then have a few years to grow up and train to become as powerful as possible before being pittied against each other.
I kinda lost it when I heard that we were going to earn anime-like powers, and didn’t really pay much attention after that. Something about settling differences and receiving a wish in reward for winning.
Then, it finally clicked into me. I’m just your average guy from japan, who dies while getting run over by a truck and then gets reincarnated into a world with magic (not really, but close enough) and gets on an epic tourney to get his one free unrestricted wish.
Wasn’t that exactly like that? You know… Aren’t I just like one of those anime protagonist?
Then… It should be alright for me to change a lot in this life, right? Like, maybe I could stop being so ordinary… MAYBE I COULD EVEN GET MYSELF A GIRLFRIEND!
With those happy thoughts, I decided to give my best in the new world.
…
Well, cutting the story short here, I was born an orphan, grew up on a temple of sorts where they raised me. Since I was born, just like my patron god said, it seems that I can sorta feel this energy thing from everyone, I think.
I mean, it is a bit strange, so don’t judge me, okay?
Anyway, I grew up on the orphanage where there was this annoying girl who would always fight with me. She was a bit annoying that she would alway follow me even though she only wanted to fight, but after some time I kind of got used to it, so everything went fine. (I was basically ignoring her. No use trying to put a girl who hates me in my magnificent harem plan.)
With a clear goal in mind, I decided to start training ever since I was young so that once I found my first rival I would already be so strong that I would take care of them with one hand tied to my back!
The only problem was that I had no idea on what I had to do.
Then, I met this old man when I was on my third year as an orphan. His name was Mo Lu, and when you take his appearance in consideration, he’s not that imposing looking. Long white and messy hair and as tall as a woman, I didn’t really give him much credit until I felt how much qi he had.
I immediately threw myself on the ground and asked him to teach me.
What? Pride? Pfft. That doesn’t give you girlfriends! Strength does! And to be strong, you need teachers!
“No. I don’t take retards for disciple.” OI! WHO ARE YOU CALLING A RETARD OLD MAN? EVEN AFTER I WENT SO FAR TO SHOW YOU MY METHODICALLY TRAINED JAPANESE BEGGING SKILL!
Well, I kept buggering him until I finally managed to prove that I had potential (which should be obvious if you take in account my background. I mean, I have cheat written all over me, you know?)
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Well, the next few months were mostly me trying to make master call me by my name instead of swearings (he seems especially keen on calling me a retard for some reason.), and after a few months unders his tutelage and almost reaching a breakthrough, or whatever it is that they call it, he received a letter.
It was strange, because he first became angry, then curious, then angry again, then amused, then he burnt the letter, dissolved the ashes with water and buried it with the jar under the ground. Before finally using what he called “Tormented wing of the celestial crane” to blow a crater on the ground where he had buried the jar.
I REALLY want to learn that! I mean, he made something with his spirit then blew a hole on the ground using only his palms! AND THE NAME IS SO BADASS!
Then he told me we were leaving.
After showing his insignia around to some people and waving away his hands around, he found us a carriage that was heading to the same place as us (i was seriously thinking he was going to tell us that we had to go running over there. He can be a bit spartan with his training at times.) that took us to the place where whomever sent him the letter was. It took us a few days, but when we reached, we were in a small mansion (the ones on the city I was before were a lot bigger. Maybe it’s because this is the countryside?).
However, what quickly caught my attention was that there were three persons with strong spirits here. One was a spiritualist, seeing how his or her’s was already on the Qi stage and he was as strong as my old teacher. The other two were still on the really early stages, and that’s if they were even training their spirit, which I can’t be so sure. Still, they were really good material for spiritualist. Master Mo Lu also said something about elements, and if I’m not mistaken, these two were really pure in whichever element they were related to.
What? I said this whole sensing thing is confusing.
Still, depending on the age of these people, it might end up being a reincarnee too.
…
THIS IS BAAAAAAAD! I STILL HAVEN’T EVEN HAD MY BREAKTHROUGH! WAAAAH! WHAT IF I DIE OR SOMETHING?
For a moment I panicked, but after receiving a hit to the head from Master Mo Lu, I calmed down. Then I remembered the god talking something about time to train and whatnot. Doesn’t this means that I don’t have to worry about being attacked?
Oh yeah, thinking about it, this carriage is owned by this really pretty woman that rode it with us. And she also said that she was from the house itself, where her daughter was training.
Wait a second, if her daughter is a reincarnee, doesn’t it means that she got a serious head-start with her being a noble and all?
No use thinking too much about it. Shaking my head and deciding to worry about it after I confirmed if the person is a reincarnee or not, I left the carriage and saw what was awaiting for us. A bunch of aides (which will never really get to the level a true maid without the frilly clothes.) and three other people, who were the ones with so much spirit.
One was an old man like master, except that bald and with an enormous gandalf beard. The other two were two cute girls around four and six years old each. The older one looked a lot like the woman in the carriage with us, except that her hair was purple. The younger one had a long black hair and wore a strange black robe.
How should I say it… Both were extremely cute, and with the purple haired girl being (probably) the daughter of the woman in the car, I could know that she would grow up to be beautiful, so I immediately marked her to enter my harem plan.
On the other hand, the black haired one… Let’s just say that I can guarantee that it’s simply impossible to go wrong with her. Back in my other life, I met a case where a cute girl grew up to be plain once she hit puberty, and since then I’ve always had a step back in judgement until the girl was grown up completely or at least had something to base on, like a beautiful mother. However, that’s simply impossible with the black haired girl. I just can’t see her turning plain in any way, and much less uglier.
But what was scarier about her was truly the amount of spirit she had. One’s spirit naturally grows until they reach puberty, where it reach its natural maximum and only with cultivation it will continue to grow. Yet the amount she had was even bigger than mine!
While staring at her, I felt a hit on the back of my head.
“Yulan, how many times do I have to tell you to not act so disrespectfully?”
“S-Sorry Master Mo Lu… It’s just that...” I pointed to the girl. “She have spirit equal to someone from the second star of the first heaven!”
“It’s my pleasure to meet you, my name is Lia Liu Wang.” The girl said after some time while master stared at her. “And I’m Master Roshi’s disciple.”
I also started to stare at her even more. How the hell can a girl even younger than me be so well mannered? It’s a fact, brats will always be brats until they grow up!
It couldn’t be… Is she really an adversary on this whole tourney thing?
…
Master went to talk with the bald man over in a room, so the two of them left me and the black haired girl waiting for them out on the door. It was a bit embarrassing, because only the two of us were left, and she was really cute, which made me want to keep looking at her. But then I would remember that she could be my enemy, so I would become unquiet.
Also, she was four years old, so no way I would even touch her. I’d rather wait for her to grow up a bunch more.
“I like that music.” The girl suddenly said.
I cursed in my mind, because I ended up whistling that music I always do when I’m anxious.
“Look, I’m not into little girls, so stop right there!” I said quickly. I’d rather wait a few more years before you fall for my reincarnated charm.
Regret flowed through me as I felt some nasty goosebumps on my back before turning to the girl. She was smiling, but wasn’t quite smiling. When someone with her looks does that it becomes really scary!
MASTER! HELP ME!
“Listen to the others before making assumptions!” She said while bringing her fist over my head.
HA! I’ve been training under master for almost half a year now! Don’t think that your feeble attack will land on me! Raising my hand, I quickly caught her arm as she brought it down.
“Hah! Don’t think you can land a hit on Ore-saguaaah!”
WHAT? SHE’S STRONGER THAN ME? WHY COULDN’T I STOP HER FIST? AND WHY THE HELL DOES IT HURTS SO MUCH? MONSTER! THIS GIRL IS A MONSTER!
I mean, I still don’t know spiritualism and all, but I’m a boy! And I’m older! I’m supposed to be stronger than her, you know?
Clutching my head in pain, I saw as she crouched besides me with that scary smile once again.
“Let’s try that again. I like that music”
“H… Huh… Yeah...” I replied fearing for my life.
That was the day I met the demon known as Lia, and how I met the only person I fear besides master. It was so bad that I even thought about revising my harem plan, you know!
GIRLS CAN BE REALLY SCARY!
