24th chapter - Kid's play

Typer’s room: Hello guys. Sorry for the delay. Got a bit occupied with college projects and ended up missing my update date, but here is the chapter!

Okay, so these last two weeks I’ve been over my head with projects and finals, so even though I did have the chapters done for a long time, I forgot about them entirely and ended up missing the update window I had created. This one is entirely my fault and I don’t even have a way to deny it. On the other hand, I hope that what happens in this chapter is to your liking, and do know that she still isn’t done with him, okay?

As I said before, this is VASTLY a work in progress, and wasn’t made to be posted initially, so there might be some inconsistencies. If so, please do tell me, as I want to make it an enjoyable read ^^

May your reading be enjoyable.

----

How should I say it. I do know that the situation is dire and all, but his motivations are so childish and simple that I simply can’t bring myself to take this seriously at all. I mean, he was at most one year older than me, and the way he looked made him look like one of those haughty nobles you often saw in stories.

While doing my best to put up a confused face, I tilted my head to the side, wondering how I should react to this. I could go and try to rebuke him, but if I made a poor choice of words, it might lead to some problematic political issues later on. Downright attacking him would lead to even worse situations. However, simply letting it go and try to ask Tian’s family to pay for me, as I already had a pretty hefty debt with them.

This doesn’t mean that I will just let him take me as a slave, though.

With a quick glance to the sides, I could also see that the other kids had no intention of coming to help, as most of them seemed to simply be watching curiously at the scene around us. After some brief moment, I finally decided my course of action, and turned to Tian while putting on my best confused look.

“Neeh, Miss Tian. What is a slave?” I turned to the girl besides me. She blinked surprised for a moment before her eyes crossed with mine. For a brief moment she seemed to understand what I had in mind, because a small spark passed within her eyes, but she soon put on a worried face.

“Yo-you know, Lia.” She said with a worried and hesitating tone, sneaking a peek at the  brat who had a superior smile splattered on his face. “Slaves are… People who have to obey a person completely...”

“Like an aide?” I asked with a fake curiosity, but Tian shook her head.

“No, a slave can’t deny anything their master say. Even if it’s something scary, like hurting yourself or walking around naked.” She said with a sad tone. “And if they disobey their owner, they can get punished without being able to complain back... ”

“EEh! That sounds scary!” I put on my best effort to sound scared with those words. This seemed to work, because some of the other nobles put on a slightly worried face. “I don’t want to be a slave, Miss Tian!” I lowered my face and started to force my voice to tremble a little. Tears were a bit beyond me because I was holding myself back on not to laugh.

“That’s… There isn’t much we can do...” Tian said with a sad tone. “It seems that he wants you to be his slave really bad...”

“But… I don’t.. Away from… Big sis...” I said with a trembling voice before turning towards Tian and hugging her. “I don’t want to get away from Big-sis Tian! Being slave sounds scary!”

This seemed to be enough, because the other kids, mostly the older ones, started to glare at the boy angrily with eyes full of scorn. Though he didn’t seem to notice, because an impatient look appeared in his face.

“Hey… Isn’t she only a little girl?” “She’s even younger than us!” “To blame a little girl with an old law like that...” “She looks so pitiful!” “I always thought the Sol were a bit more… You know.” “Despicable…That’s not the way a man should act!”

I heard the other whispering these words amongst themselves and couldn’t help but grin a bit. To hide it, I had to snuggle my face even more against Miss Tian, who began petting my head as if consoling me.

“Oi! End up with your antics already!” Yulai, the boy said angrily, not noticing the commotion behind him. Even his aides had a worried look and tried to warn him, but he simply ignored them. “Get over here already. From now on, until you pay for my honor, you’ll be mine!”

As he said that, I felt as he tried to pull me back, except that he was really, really weak. I could easily ignore it as he did that and not even budge, but it wouldn’t work for my idea, so instead, I faked a fall towards him as he pulled me by my arm.

Falling down, I made sure to have my head hit the ground first and braced myself against it. I didn’t make much sound since there was a thin carpet on the ground, so I’d wager it went unnoticed by the adults, however, for the kids watching the scene, that carpet surely wasn’t enough to absorb the damage.

Well, to be honest, it didn’t even hurt since I managed to use my inner spirit to reinforce my skin, much like how I did back at the mansion.

However, I couldn’t simply stop there, so I managed to start trembling slightly while faking a cry where I only made sobbing sounds, though I couldn’t quite fake my tears, so I thought it would be best to hide my face, or they would notice something strange was going on. Tian quickly ran up to me and touched me, as if looking if I was alright. Moving my head slightly, I gave her a brief glance telling that I was fine, and she replied with a relieved gaze.

“...it hurts...” I said lowly from my position while muffling my voice against the carpet.

“...Huh?” I heard the bratty boy say confused.

“Lia, are you alright? Did he hurt you?” Tian asked me in a worried tone.

Soon after, I heard some footsteps approaching me as the other kids also crouched down to check on me.

“Did he hurt you?” “Even if you are an aide, to do that...” “The Sol’s are really...”

Some of the nobles started to comment while helping me up. I had to cover my face with my hair so that people wouldn’t notice that I was fine, but this also seemed to improve the effect of me seemingly crying, because from the corner of my eyes I caught sight of some of them openly glaring at the boy while the others looked at me worriedly.

As much as I hate doing it, I do know that abusing my looks could get some results. So it’s either using it or being stuck for undetermined time as his slave. This seem like it. Now, from a noble trying to get a slave, he is downgraded to a noble who hurts a girl younger and weaker than him for no good reason. Although neither were good, I guess it did get a bit worse.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

For the first time realizing what was happening, the brat looked around confused and flustered, noticing how suddenly all the people who were only watching had joined on the whole story.

And worse, all of them were seemingly against him.

Luckily, despite being a classical haughty brat, he wasn’t completely clueless and clearly became worried at how the other kids were looking at him. A grimace appeared on his face when he finally understood what was happening

“You all...” He said in an angry tone.

But he didn’t do much else. He probably knew that even if his family was one of the most prestigious here, managing to get the enmity of all the other families isn’t exactly a good idea.

However, if he were to take back what he said at that place, it would make it look like he just backed down on something he started himself.

In other words, either he makes the other families angry with him, but keep his face, or he lose his face, but keeps a still repairable relationship with the others.

To be honest, I can’t say what exactly happened for the other’s sudden change of heart, as I have my doubts whether simply my looks would be enough for such a reversal of their reactions. Maybe mistreatment of slaves was actually something looked down upon in here?

Well, I couldn’t quite be sure, but if it works, it works.

Looking at the boy who was looking for a way out from this situation, I smiled to myself and held myself back so that I wouldn’t stick my tongue out to him. However, sensing someone approaching us from the adult’s side, I held myself back to see what was going to happen.

“What is happening here?” A person said suddenly while approaching us. Blinking surprised, all of the kids turned to the newcomer with surprised gazes.

It was an imposing man, being about as tall as Master Bo, but being more to the lean side than the large one. With long hair that had been braided and wearing a very expensive looking robe, with one glance we could all say that he was easily one of the most important person in this whole party.

More importantly, he was one of the other spiritualist in the room, and from the looks of it, I would wager that he is the strongest of the spiritualists here. Probably almost at the level of Master Roshi.

“Father...” The brat said with a surprised tone.

“What is happening here, Yulai?” The man asked with a raised eyebrow while looking around in confusion. Behind him, some other adults also approached us with curious gaze.

The boy looked around worried for a moment before turning to me with a grimace in his face.

“That girl damaged my honor, so I reclaimed my right for monetary compensation...” He said with a low tone.

“Hmm… Is that so?” His father said with a raised eyebrow while looking at me with an interested gaze. I felt a shiver run down my spine for a moment when I saw him analyzing me so coldly, but managed to hide it. After this brief moment, his gaze turned towards the two aides who stood behind the boy, and they quickly nodded to confirm his story.

Afterwards, he also took a look towards the other kids around us, and saw how they all looked at the boy with some hint of disgust, and as if understanding what was happening, a sigh escaped him.

“What is happening here?” The other adults asked, finally noticing the commotion.

Approaching him, the father of the brat, the other adults inquired him, seeing as he had already heard the story about the kids.

After some time of watching us, the man finally sighed before turning back and putting on a proud smile.

“Nothing. After all, this is all only the kids playing around.” He said while waving his hand away as if dismissing the talk. However, I didn’t miss as Miss Tian widened her eyes in surprise for a moment, similar to the other adults.

While wondering what was happening, the boy hung his head slightly and nodded weakly Turning towards Tian in search for an explanation, she lowered her lips besides my ears and whispered.

“Once he said this is only child’s playing around, this pretty much means we have free-reign over what we do from now on.” She explained me with a short sigh. “After this, anything we do will be considered only a child’s playing around and will be dismissed with those simple words.”

Then, does this mean that his son actions are now invalid? And if I understood, anything that the kids do from now on in this party will also be dismissed as nothing important..

While looking around, I saw as the other adults in the room made a slightly surprised or shocked face before putting on a cheerful smile and nod. Some even faking a laugh.

I wondered if they had given some kind of mission to their sons and daughters to do here, because they were clearly not satisfied with what happened there, despite faking it with a smile. Even the Sol household head had a slight frown in his face, despite being the one to have used the child’s play card.

If that was so, I’d guess that the brat is getting a scolding once he gets home.

I can live with that.

While thinking so, the large man approached me and put on a gentle smile before gently landing his hand on my head and rubbing it. Although it did feel good, I couldn’t help but feel a bit worried as he did that.

“It’s alright. My son was only joking, okay? After all, no one uses such a law anymore!” He said with a gentle tone, and I nodded weakly under his gaze. “Isn’t that right, Yulai?” he asked while turning to the boy behind him.

He nodded weakly and turned away, muttering something about taking some air. Afterwards he walked away to the exit of the mansion, with his aides following close behind him. With that the kids all turned their attention to me and started asking if I was alright and things like that.

I replied as weakly as I could, with Tian nearby making it so that it looked like she was comforting me.

But for me, just that wasn’t enough. I mean, as silly as it was, he did try to make me into a slave for absolutely no known reason, so I don’t think that a simple scolding from his father would be enough for me.

So, I finally decided that I would have a bit more fun with the boy.

Though, for now, I guess I should humor these nobles a bit more.
