It turns out that we were one of the last groups to finish, the only other ones were those who failed, running out of time.
The next day, everyone was discussing the results of the exam.
Kaminari, Kirishima, Mina, and Sato where the only ones to fail. Mina and Denki had been outsmarted by the principal, while Kirishima and Sato were trapped by Cementoss until time ran out.
“Everyone… I’m looking forward… Hic… to a bunch of… awesome stories from the trip!” Mina cried.
“Just hold on, now, there could still be some twist to this…!” the ever optimist, Midoriya replied before Sero cut in.
“Don’t say that, Midoriya, your going to jinx it.”
“Failing our exam means summer school Hell instead of training camp in the woods!” Kaminari started to shout in frustration, “And we flunked the practical! The only twist would be if your average scores were less than a monkey’s.”
“Calm down, you’re talking too much.” Sero called out.
“I’m in the same boat, anyways. I got put to sleep and only cleared the test thanks to Mineta.”
“So until we know how they’re actually grading the thing…”
“Save your pity! I just want your points!!”
“That’s the bell. Be seated.” Aizawa announced, slamming the door open.
“Morning, about your final exams… sadly we had some failures. As such…”
“You’re all going to Summer Training Camp.”
“WHAT A TWIST!”
“Everyone cleared the written tests. But in the practical… Kirishima, Kaminari, Ashido, Sato, and Sero all failed.”
“Wait, we’re really allowed to go?!” Kirishima asked.
“I knew it.” Sero lamented, “Clearing the practical didn’t necessarily mean I passed…”
“As the Villains in this test, we teachers came up with assignments perfectly suited to all of you. Ones that would give you a chance to devise winning strategies.”
“If we hadn’t, None of you would’ve stood a chance.”
“So when you said you were really going to crush us…”
“That was to push you. We are talking about training camp after all.”
“More than anyone else, those who failed are in dire need of this.”
“This was another Rational Deception.”
“Rational Deception?!”
Bullshit, he got caught up in the moment.
“We’ve been fooled again! I’d Expect no less from U.A.!” Ida shouted
“But…! Now that we’ve been lied to twice, aren’t you worried that our faith in you has been shaken?”
“Perhaps.”
“But consider the facts, It wasn’t entirely a lie. Failure is still failure, You five will receive special supplemental lessons. And to be honest, they’ll be far worse than summer school. Anyway, I’ll be handing out camp manuals. Take one and pass it back.”
“Well, whatever the case, it’s nice that everyone gets to go.” Ojiro says.
“An entire week of training camp!”
“This packing list is huge.”
“I don’t even have a bathing suit. There’s a ton of stuff I’ve got to buy.”
“Oh, I know!” Toru announced, “ We’re off tomorrow and tests are over so… how about we all go shopping together, Class A?”
----------------------------------------
“So now we’re here!”
“This place has more shops than anywhere else in the prefecture. It’s got the coolest and trendiest stuff!”
“The Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall!”
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
Most everyone had come to the mall, except for a few notable exceptions.
Mainly being Bakugo.
With so many U.A. students in one place, we were quickly recognised by some of the crowds.
“Oh! Aren’t they those U.A. First-Years?!”
“Good going at the sports festival!!”
“Whoa. People still remember that…?” Ururaka asked, seemingly surprised at her fame.
“I need some rugged outdoor shoes” Kaminari said.
“Me too, me too!” Toru replied.
Ida interjected “Our manual recommends well-worn footwear… or, ah… should we focus on utility instead…?!”
“Looks like we all need different stuff. Let’s split up and meet back at a designated time.” Kirishima says.
I didn’t need all that much, and though there was a store for everything here, I didn’t end up buying anything else other than what was on the list.
By the time I finished, there was a commotion by the main fountain.
After meeting up with Midoriya and Ururaka, and whoever else made it back in time, it turns out some Villain from the U.S.J Incident, the leader apparently, had threatened Midoriya. Not long after, the Police arrived, and some of us were taken in for questioning.
Midoriya can’t catch a break, it seems.
----------------------------------------
“So…”
“Given what happened, We’re on the lookout for these Villains.” Aizawa announces.
“And we’ve had to cancel our usual accommodations at the last minute. We won’t reveal our actual destination until the day we depart.”
“Huh?!”
“But I already told my parents.” Sero complains.
“That’s precisely the point… the school can’t control who learns what or how.” Momo comments.
“As long as we’re not cancelling the whole trip altogether.”
----------------------------------------
The very eventful term ended more peacefully than it started, with only a small first year assembly being noteworthy.
With the start of the holidays, all of Class 1-A and Class 1-B met up at two separate buses outside U.A. we all lined up for a attendance, while one of the 1-B boys tried to start some conflict.
“What? Some Class A kids are getting extra lessons? That means some of you failed?!”
“Huuh? How weird is that?!”
“Everyone knows Class A is totally superior to class B, but know this?! Wow!”
He shut up when one of the girls karate chopped him on the neck, knocking him out.
“Sorry.”
Apparently, his name is Monoma.
“Class A’s bus is way. Please line up in order!”
Everyone was restless during the bus ride, as is was quite long and the anticipation was killing them. I sat at the front, ahead of Kirishima and and Kaminari where there was a spare chair. We were listening through different songs on Kirishima’s phone for most of the ride.
About an hour later, we got a break.
“Time for break…”
We all left the bus on top of a scenic viewing area.
“Hold on… what kind of rest stop is this?”
“Right? And where’s Class B?
“Of course we stopped here for a reason.” Aizawa announced.
“Heya, Eraser!!”
“Sorry, haven’t seen you in a while.”
“Rock on with theses sparkling gazes!”
Two Heroes wearing skirts and robotic cat accessories announced from behind us.
“Stingingly cute and catlike!”
“We’re the wild, wild… Pussycats!!”
“These are the pro Heroes who’ll be helping us out this time – The Pussycats.”
“They’re a four-member Hero team who all work under a singele agency!” Midoriya exclaimed
“This veteran team specialises in mountain rescue operations! They’ve been in business for 12 years now…”
“We’re 18 at Heart!!” one shouted, punching Midoriya in the face.
“This whole area here is our territory. Your lodging is at the foot of that mountain over there.”
“So far away!!”
“Huh…? Then why’d we stop halfway..?” Ururaka asked.
“Uh-oh…”
“Let’s… get back… to the bus?” Sero awkwardly laughed.
“Hurry…”
“It’s now 9:30 A.M.”
“I’m thinking… around noon, at the earliest.”
“Run!” Mina yelled.
“Back to the bus, quick!!” Kirishima screamed.
Before any of us could do just that, a huge wave of dirt swept us all off of the cliff edge and into the forest below.
“Sorry, kids.” Aizawa started
“The training’s already begun.”
“This is our private territory, so feel free to use your Quirks!”
“You’ve got three hours to reach the facility on foot!”
“Make it through… the Beast’s Forest!!”
“Seriously? It’s like a name straight out of Dragon Quest” Kaminari says.
“No point in complaining. We’d better start moving.”
Out of nowhere a towering, stone skinned monster appeared, catching us all off guard, except for Bakugo who promptly blasted it to pieces.
“An actual Beast?!” Kaminari and Sero screamed.
“Calm yourself, Creature. Please, back down.” Koda said, attempting to use his Quirk.
“Koda!” Mina warned as it turned to crush him with its claw.
Ida, Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki ripped through the Beast before it could react, the Beast exploding into solid chunks of dirt.
“Not yet.” Bakugo said softly and all around us, more of these beasts started making their presence known.
Shoji was first to react, “Two approaching from the front, one from the right.”
“Three more farther out!” Jiro added.
“Spit yourselves into groups!” Ida attempted to take control of the situation, “Shoji, Jiro, keep everyone updated. Sero and Mineta, trap them for anyone that needs a stationary target. Midoriya, Todoroki, Bakugo, and I will clear up a more direct path to the target location.”
“OK!!!”
----------------------------------------
We slowly worked our way though the thick forest, holding off the endless waves of beasts as we made our way though.
None of us had our costumes so were more limited in what we could do over all, especially me, as without the leg braces any attack I attempted had a high likelihood of causing more damage to me than the beast. My kicks were still quite strong with the added boost form my Quirk, but that didn’t mean my legs could take the hits.
I’d still take a few down through the shear number of hits I could do from bouncing around at speed.
Even with all of our strength and skills, It was many, many hours before we arrived out the other side by the lodgings.
“Just a few hundred more meters! Were almost there!!” Ida tiredly shouted.
We we’re making progress at a decent speed for almost the entire length of the journey, but everyone wore down eventually. And once Ida, Bakugo, and Midoriya overused their Quirks, everyone else had to start putting even more into every fight.
We were all dragging their feet as we left the forest into the actual camp resort.
“Needless to say, you didn’t make it in time to lunch.”
Standing in front of us was Aizawa and the Pussycats.
“’It’ll only take three hours.’ Yeah, right…” Sero complained
“So hungry. Gonna die…”
“Sorry. That’s how quickly we would’ve made it.” The black haired Pussycat said.
“Flaunting the power gap in our faces…?” Sato asked.
“Mew mew mew… we actually thought it’d take you longer.”
“And you dealt with my Earth Beast pretty easily too. Not bad. Especially you four.” She pointed at 1-A’s powerhouse squad, “I’m guessing your past experiances allowed you to act without hesitation?”
“Gonna have fun three years from now! I’m marking them as mine!!”
“Hey, Mandalay…” Aizawa said to the black haired Pussycat, “I didn’t know she was like that.”
“She’s worried about being a spinster forever…” Mandalay explained.
“A spinster? You’re that old…?” the ever thoughtful Midoriya asked
“Who’s old? Not me!!” she yelled hitting Midoriya.
“Hey, I’ve been wondering… that boy.” He gestured to a small kid, wearing a cap with two thorns standing nearby, “Whose child is he?”
“Oh, he’s actually my nephew.” Mandalay said
“Kota! Come over here and say hello. You’ll be spending a week with these guys, after all….”
He walked up to Midoriya, who bent down to introduce himself.
“Hi. I’m Midoriya, from U.A. High school’s Hero Course.”
“Nice to meetcha.”
This young boy, maybe only 5 years old, absolutely decimated Midoriyas balls in a single punch.
“Midoriya!”
“Hey, Nephew!! Why’d you punch Midoriya in the junk?!”
Kota turned to face Ida, “I can’t abide by jerks who wanna be Heroes.”
“Cute kid.” Bakugo said
“You two are a lot alike Todoroki mentioned.
“A lot alike? Buzz off. Don’t wanna hear anything outta you.”
“Enough of this sideshow” Aizawa spoke up, “Go get your luggage from the bus. Drop your things off in your rooms, then come to the dinner in the mess hall. After that you’ll bathe. Then it’s bedtime. The real training starts tomorrow.”
“Now hurry up.”
