6. Library and System 101

Alice entered the library, and it was just what you would expect. Normal-looking library keeping the same medieval look from the rest of the town. Tons of books. Tons of bookshelves. Just a regular-looking library. Alice was no stranger to libraries having spent most of her 20s in libraries trying to survive medical school. Alice quickly went to work, and grabbed a few books before she sat down and started to read.

Alice went through about 8 books in the next 3-4 hours. She found out that she was able to read and maintain information much quicker than before. She later found out that it was due to her Intelligence stat when she picked up the book on Stats. Alice learned everything she thought was necessary to survive in Sfiraz. How to gain experience, different classes, how her stat points worked, different types of monsters, and other information she thought might be important.

The one thing she found most interesting was that quests were only given to people that were summoned or transported from another world, and that it only lasted for a while. Once the system deemed that you knew enough about this world and that you were ready to survive on your own, it would stop giving you quests. Another interesting thing was that people that were teleported to this world usually came here for one of two reasons. Reason number one was to stop a great calamity from happening. If you fell under this category you were usually summoned, and you were greeted by people explaining the situation at the time of summoning. Reason number two was that the person was transferred here accidentally. How the accident exactly happened was still unknown. Alice definitely fell under the second category, which was a relief to Alice. She was not looking forward to stopping any calamities anytime soon. In that same book her race Alterterrestial was also mentioned. It was basically a Human that came from another world, and it had no apparent extra or unique benefits that she could find in any of the books she read.

Regarding her stats, Alice found out that each stat had its own definition and each one served a different purpose.

Strength:

Indicates the level of how physically strong you are. Strength will directly increase how strong you are and the weight you are able to carry on your person.

Dexterity:

Indicates the level of how agile and fast you are. Dexterity will directly increase your speed and agility.

Wisdom:

Indicates the level of how knowledgeable and perceptive you are. Wisdom will allow you to identify and perceive danger and/or entities from farther distances.

Intelligence:

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

Indicates the level and potency of the spells you can cast, and how fast you are able to process and absorb information. Intelligence will directly affect the potency of your spells and your mana pool.

Charisma:

Indicates the level of how charismatic you are, allowing you to negotiate and empathize with others. Charisma will directly affect the way you talk to people and how they will react to you.

Vitality:

Indicates the level of your overall health and how resistant you are to damage in general. Vitality will directly affect how resistant you are to ailments, debuffs and conditions and how big your hit point pool is.

Alice thought this was simple enough, and it explained why she was able to do so many things she wasn’t able to do before. As soon as she finished reading about stats, she quickly allocated her 5 free points to Vitality. In Alice's mind the more Health Points she had, the bigger the chance of surviving.

Regarding the monsters she could potentially face, there were a lot. From rat/lizard hybrids to wild pigs the size of elephants, and of course dragons. "How could there not be dragons in this world," Alice thought. Dragons weren’t even the most dangerous monster you could face in Sfiraz. Dragons were considered an A-grade threat in a system that deemed the weakest of beasts F-grade and the most powerful S-grade. Alice also found that the wolf-squirrel she encountered before was an F-class, which did not surprise her one bit, given that she almost killed it with one of her ninja kicks.

The same system worked for regular people or “Evolved races” as the books called them. All races that had the ability to level up were “Evolved races”. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Demons, to mention a few. They were called evolved races because it took a race evolution before they were able to gain the ability to level up. Let’s say cats started to fight rats, and rat hybrids, and did it enough times throughout a few generations; eventually the race itself would evolve into an evolved race which are now called Felihumans. “Not a lot of creativity there,” thought Alice.

The rank system was divided into levels:

F-grade - 0-50

E-grade - 51-100

D-grade - 101-200

C-grade - 200-350

B-grade 351 - 500

A-grade 500 - 1000

S grade - 1000+

Every time you reached a new grade, the system would allow you to evolve. Evolving meant two things. 1. Evolve your race and 2. Evolve your class, which would in turn make you stronger.

Regarding skills and spells, Alice’s suspicions were correct. The system gave you skills based on your experience. For example, if you shot enough arrows it would give you the archery skill. The system started giving skills and spells at lvl 1 and then every 5th level. So Lvl 1 then Lvl 5, 10 and so on. The number of skills and spells varied between 1 to 3 with the exception of when you chose or evolved a class. Whenever you chose or evolved a class you could be given more skills if the class required or unlocked such skill or spell. Another exception was Alterterrestials, they were given skills the moment they were teleported or summoned to Sfiraz as well.

Classes worked the same way. Whatever your hobbies or experience were before reaching lvl 1 would indicate which classes the system would offer you at lvl 1. You would start with what were called basic classes such as warrior, archer, mage, etc., and then you would evolve your class when you reached E-grade. Alice was able to get an evolved class right off the bat due to all her experience as a doctor back on Earth and that one badass kick she was able to pull before reaching lvl 1. Since that was the only real experience she had in Sfiraz before reaching lvl 1, the system took that into consideration and had given Alice the option of an evolved class that combined her healing experience as a doctor on Earth and her combat experience from that one fight with the wolf-squirrel.

Everything was somewhat straightforward and made sense so far. Alice, being satisfied with the level of knowledge she now possessed, decided to head over to the Adventurer’s Guild. Before leaving the library, and now being able to understand it, Alice took a good look at her character sheet.
