Alice woke up the next day with a cleansed soul. She remembered crying herself to sleep, holding onto Grimmy with all the strength she could muster. She got off her bed, only to realize that Grimmy was no longer in bed with her.
“Good morning, Alice,” said Grimmy from the opposite side of the room, floating on top of the desk, looking at the quests he had picked up yesterday with a strategizing gaze.
“Morning, Grimmy,” said Alice with a shade of red on her cheeks, feeling a little embarrassed that Grimmy had to see her in the emotional state that she was in last night.
“I went downstairs while you were asleep and ordered us some breakfast. It should be ready anytime now, so we should head downstairs at our earliest convenience.”
“Awww, that is very nice of you, Grimmy, give me a minute, I’ll be quick,” said Alice as she rushed out of bed.
Alice was not the type of girl that took hours to get ready back on Earth. Alice did not have long hair, so getting her hair in a ponytail was not much of a chore. She had a natural beauty that most people would envy. Makeup was but a distraction to what her natural undisturbed face could offer. Tim would always say that she looked prettier without makeup, so when Alice needed to get ready for an event, or a night out, she would be ready in a matter of minutes.
Not five minutes passed, and both Alice and Grimmy were heading downstairs to the dining area. They sat down at the first empty table they found. They waved to Luna who was behind the bar attending to some other guests. Luna noticed them and gestured to them to hold on for a minute. Luna quickly finished her business with her guests at the bar and headed to the kitchen. A few seconds later, Luna came out with Alice and Grimmy’s breakfast.
They said their quick hellos and Luna went back to attending to her other guests.
“Alright, Alice,” said Grimmy as he took a bite out of his breakfast burrito, at least that’s what Alice identified as the food Grimmy was eating as, “once we finish our breakfast, we will go out of the city and start hunting those dire wolves, once we are done with that…”
“Grimmy… Thank you for last night,” Alice interrupted.

“Oh… do not mention it, Alice, I am just glad I was able to comfort you in some way. Lord Death entrusted me with your well-being, you know, so I had to do something.”
“I know, but thank you anyway,” said Alice with a smile that did a poor job at disguising her sad eyes.
Grimmy stared at Alice for a second before saying, “Any time, Alice… As I was saying...” Grimmy continued going over the plan, as Alice continued eating her breakfast.
When breakfast was over, they went over to the southern gate of Ambar City, which was the closest gate to Ruby City. Before leaving of course, they made sure to update Alice’s permit to add Grimmy’s information to it, allowing him to enter the city limits of all the cities that made up the Gems Country.
Gems Country consisted of seven cities: Ambar, Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Amethyst, Sapphire, and Topaz City. Diamond being the capital of the country, where the king resided.
Alice and Grimmy left Ambar City and began their first official adventure together.
They started walking towards their final destination, Ruby City. On their way, they were supposed to find and kill at least 10 dire wolves to fulfill the first of their quests. That was their first objective.
They hadn’t gone far when they found their first prey. There were three dire wolves about a kilometer away from them. Grimmy took this opportunity to properly explain to Alice how someone with her capabilities should fight.
“You should always start with inflicting yourself with necrotic wound. Take advantage of Lord Death’s boon and have it ready on you.”
“So even if I’m immune, I can still inflict it upon myself?”
“Correct! It will not do any damage to you, and it cannot spread due to your immunity, but you can still inflict it on yourself. Then once you are inflicted with it, use transfusion.”
“Got it. What about bleeding, should I do the same?”
“Necrotic wounds work on almost everything. Skin, as you know from your encounter with the rock elemental, can be almost anything according to the system, but bleeding is a little more selective. Only beings that have actual blood can suffer from bleeding. So, if the enemy has blood, I recommend you also inflict yourself with bleeding before using transfusion so you can pass along both necrotic wound and bleeding to the enemy. Also, you must be quick when there is more than one enemy, once you transfuse your afflictions to one enemy, you must inflict yourself again with necrotic wounds and bleeding if you want to transfuse the afflictions to another enemy. Now, dire wolves usually do not go past lvl 10 so this should not be much of a fight for you. So just do what I said and you should be fine.”
“Understood!” said Alice as she started inflicting herself with both bleeding and necrotic wound.
As she used transfusion on the first wolf and successfully transferred her afflictions to it, all three became aware of her. She was only able to do the process one more time, inflicting the second wolf with necrotic wound and bleeding. Alice was not able to give the third wolf any afflictions before they were too close. Alice prepared herself with her sickles and readied herself for battle.
Once the wolves reached her, Alice started using her Acrobatics to dodge attacks and do some attacks of her own. Alice would also use Surgical Strike every now and then to land some critical hits. The two wolves that she managed to transfuse the afflictions into were noticeably slower and weaker, so Alice focused her attacks on the third. Soon after the battle started, she managed to inflict afflictions on the third wolf directly with her sickles. Whenever she got afflicted herself, she quickly used transfusion to pass it along to the wolves. It quickly became a process for Alice. Attack, dodge, use transfusion. It wasn’t long before the wolves fell prey to Alice’s afflictions and succumbed to their deaths.
