38. The last straw

“Are you going to just stand there? I thought you were eager to meet me?” said Jax.

Jax was a muscular tall man with pale complexion who looked to be in his early 30s. He had no hair on his head and was wearing leather pants and an open leather vest with no shirt underneath.

“We were eager to meet you. We’ve been looking for you for days now you know. Now that we found you… well, you’re somewhat of a disappointment,” said Alice as she took a few steps towards Jax.

“Disappointed huh… is that so?” replied Jax.

“Yeah, I mean you can’t blame us, can you? we were expecting this badass, strong impressive man who led one of the most amazing group of bandits in the region, and we got... well you.”

“Look, lady who do you think you’re…”

“No, you look at me!” shouted Alice in an irritated tone not even her own party had seen her talk before. “This is how you repay to someone sparing your life?”

Jax looked confused. She looked at Alice. Her eyes cast a deadly gaze, but not at him, at the person next to him. The bandit who had told him about Alice. The bandit Alice had decided not to kill. The bandit Alice had decided to trust.

Alice kept walking towards Jax and the now shaking bandit.

“This is how you show gratitude to someone who decided to trust you? You will regret the moment you decided to cross me. The moment you decided to put my friends in danger. You will wish I had killed you back in the dungeon.”

Alice kept walking and stood a couple of feet away from the bandit.

Jax tried to grab Alice by the arm to push her away, but Alice reacted and grabbed his hand first. Jax noticed that Alice’s hand was bleeding, and her blood was running down his wrist where Alice had grabbed him.

Alice turned her head towards Jax and with a blank stare told him: “You stay out of this,” as a black mark started to run through Jax’s wrist.

Transfusion successful, you have inflicted Jax with Necrotic Wound.

On her way to Jax and during her speech, Alice had managed to cut herself and inflict necrotic wound on herself. She then waited for the right moment to use transfusion. That moment was now.

Jax fell to his knees, “Everyone, attack!”

Rami and Bonetta were prepared. Bonetta had already boosted herself with her buffs and was already running towards some of the bandits, taking some attention off Alice.

Rami already prepared with his spells, started sniping bandits as fast as he could. The bandits started running towards him. The moment the bandits were within distance, he used his water shotgun spell and summoned his water blade right after.

The bandit’s numbers were quickly depleted. Jax was still on the floor agonizing in pain from his necrotic wound which was already reaching his shoulder. Moments before the necrosis reached the shoulder, Alice took her sickle and chopped the whole arm off. Jax screamed in pain.

“You don’t get to die so easily,” said Alice with a tarrying look on her face.

Alice turned her head back to the bandit that had crossed her and found him lying on the dirt crying.

Alice evaded a few swings from bandits coming at her and inflicted a few afflictions on a few of them. As soon as they were afflicted, they were essentially out of the battle.

It didn’t take long before the party cleaned up and only the one-armed Jax and the bandit who betrayed Alice’s trust were still alive.

Bonetta grabbed the bandit and made sure he didn’t get away. Alice turned to him and said: “He was supposed to kill us? He was supposed to save you from me? You betrayed my trust for this guy?” Alice, wearing her reaper armor, kicked and pointed at the half-dead Jax.

Alice kneeled next to Jax and turned her head, half covered by her reaper armor with an eerie skull, towards the bandit. “Do you know about the human nervous system?” asked Alice to the terrified bandit, tears running from his eyes.

The bandit shook his head.

“You see the human race has what is called a nervous system. It’s very important you see. It basically tells your muscles when and how to move. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to even blink. Do you like blinking?” asked Alice as she moved her fingers up and down Jax's face.

The bandit nodded, nlfear having consumed his ability to speak.

Alice used her surgical strike and severed the nerve that allowed Jax to blink. Jax screamed. “Well, he can no longer blink. What a shame. Blinking is very important you see. Next question. Do you like breathing?” Alice asked the bandit.

The bandit, fearing for his life, just looked at Alice’s face covered by her terrifying mask and remained silent. It felt as if he was looking at death himself.

“I asked if you liked breathing?” Alice asked again in a louder tone.

“Alice, that’s enough,” said Grimmy.

“No, Grimmy. People need to know what happens when they cross me," said Alice, not turning away from the bandit. “DO YOU LIKE BREATHING!?” she repeated.

“Alice! Enough!” shouted Grimmy with a deeper louder tone.

Rami sniped what was left of Jax and Bonetta twisted the bandit’s neck.

“Grimmy! Why?!” said Alice furiously.

“Alice, it’s over…”

Alice fell to her knees and the reaper armor disappeared. She had a blank stare in her eyes.

“What happened to me?” she asked as a single tear fell down her maskless cheek having unsummon the reaper armor.

“It’s okay Alice,” said Grimmy as he got in close and let Alice hug him, “It’s been a rough couple of weeks for you. I’m surprised this meltdown didn’t happen earlier.”

“What?” replied Alice in confusion.

“Alice, you were teleported to a different world a few weeks ago. All your loved one left behind. In that timespan, you have met three different gods, learned about magic, taken people's lives, and been in many life-threatening scenarios. Seems like this poor bandit betraying your trust was the last straw.”

"Oh, I see..." said Alice before she broke down and started to cry uncontrollably. Bonetta and Rami got in closer and hugged Alice along with Grimmy.
