Chapter 9 : The dull knife

Chapter 9 : The dull knife

After a few weeks of travelling, i finally arrived. I had grown a lot during the time, not only did my core grew by half it’s size, my mana pool increased as well. I had just enough mana to cast wind blade storm and my familiarity with the wind element increase. I could cast wind spells at a faster speed and didn’t felt uncomfortable with it.

The carrier was on top of a cliff and driving towards the edge of the cliff. On the other side was a majestic sight. A large expanse of land floated by the edge of the cliff. Many bridges connect the floating fantasy world to the ground. I could see that below the landmass were large blue crystal that seemed to glow in a faint hue. Oh the edges of the landmass were large thick metal chains that connected to floating blue crystal in the sky like balloons.

We travelled up the bridge to the landmass to get to the country of Iranda. As we went up the bridge,i felt many layers of magical shields that seems to move like a bubble as we pass through it. On the sides of the bridge were the same blue crystals but smaller. There were some orange crystals fixed like lamp posts on the side of the bridge. Above each lamp posts was a red crystal with an eye in the middle.

The eyes moved creepily to stare at our carrier when we passed by. I felt great magical energy from the eyes. I presumed they were the bridge defenses, the eyes would watch for any intruders and attack when necessary.

When we reached the end of the bridge, i felt a large mana shield that seemed to cover the whole land mass. It was very thick and enormous. When i looked left, right or up, i could not see the edge of the mana shield.

A large blue gate with two eyes blocked our path inside.

“ Who thou wishes to enter?” a voice asked.

I got out of my carrier and looked at the eye.

“ I am Princess Anna Val Iranda, I have returned from my trip and wishes to return to my abode” I answered.

“Very well” the voice replied.

The eye on the large gate closed and the gate dissipated.

I went back to the carrier and we entered. After we entered, the gate appeared behind us like nothing happened.

I looked through the window to see the world. What i saw puzzled me.

We travelled through the land and passed by many towns. Whenever we passed by a town, the people would stand by the side of the road to pay respect. However the thing that puzzled me was the town. The town was very medieval, the houses were made of stone and wood unlike the city where everything was brick and metal. Everything seemed like the book i read before about the olden times where there was a lack of technology. The town gave me the same vibe as the book i read.

Instead of motorised vehicles, there were carriage with green giant lizards pulling them. The people in the towns were wearing peasant clothes.

As we travelled we passed by bigger towns. The towns had better technology than the towns before but it still felt medieval to me. Houses were better looking but were still made of stone. None were made from high quality material like in the city. I could definitely say that none of the buildings i saw were better than the buildings in district 2. The buildings in the town were worst that some of the houses in district 3.

Eventually we arrived at a city called Windon. This place was going to be a pit stop where we would refuel and sleep at an inn for the night. This city was a bit similar to other towns. However i saw that in this town, there were some fancy buildings.

When the carrier entered the noble district area to look for an inn to rest, i saw that the houses were similar in design to some of the houses in district 1 and the capital. Though the houses were similar, I did not see anything big or tall like those big high rise building made of glass that some corporations in district 1 and capital had.

In the noble district, the houses were 3 to 4 stories mansion with a large amount of land separating them. I could see that most of everything was powered by mana crystals unlike the city where everything was powered by zero-point energy.

By the road, animal carriage were replaced by mana crystal powered vehicle. Streetlamps with crystals lined the streets and people with fancy clothing similar to mine were bustling about.

After the carrier parked by the inn and a few rooms were rented, i told my guards that i wanted to look around the town. I wanted to have a better look around the city before we leave for the capital tomorrow.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

I change to a proper attire and left the inn with a few guards. I wandered the city looking at the new and exciting things i never seen before. I visited the local restaurants for lunch.

While i was wandering, no one realised who i was due to me not wearing my insignia. Most thought i was just a noble's daughter. After lunch, i decided to hit the marketplace see if there was anything i would like to buy.

When the Legion brainwashed me,they had given me the real princess belongings. One of those belongings was her purse. One of the things inside it was a purple crystal card. From my memory, the currency of Iranda was in the form of crystal points that is stored in the crystal card.

I sent mana into the card and saw that it contained more than a million points. In Iranda, commoners would usually earn a few hundred points a month. With the amount of points i had, there was nothing i couldn’t buy.

In the market place, there were many shops. I saw a lot of clothing, jewellery and mage shops.

I entered one of the mage shops by the corner to check what’s inside.

The shop looked dark and eerie but i was somehow drawn to it. My guards didn’t say anything and followed behind me. Inside the shop was an amalgamation of magical artifacts. I could feel the mana seeping out of them.

I recognised some of the devices from my memories but there were some i had no clue about. I ignored them and went deeper into the shop. There was no shopkeeper inside the shop.  At the end of the shop was a pedestal with a blue cube on top. I felt a force attracting me to it. Like i had to touch it. I placed my hand on it and it felt cooling to touch.

“Oh deary, don’t you know you shouldn’t touch anything inside a magic shop” a voice appeared beside me.

I instantly let go of the cube and looked to my side and saw an old man. He had a long flowing beard and was in a black clock with a red robe. I looked at his face and saw that his pupils were completely white.

He’s blind.

Wait,if he’s blind how did he know i was touching it.

“A..a.. Sorry for touching it, somehow i felt like i was drawn to it and felt that i had to touch it” I apologised.

My instincts screamed that he was dangerous even though he was blind, so i decided to be nice and humble. I felt like a lamb in front of a tiger when i was in the old man pressense.

“Don’t worry deary, the cube is always like that, it draws people in to absorb mana from the user” the old man said.

Damn, here i thought that the box was a treasure that no one but me could use from the feeling of being drawn to it. It would’ve been divine treasure that no one had noticed before like those adventure books i read when i was in school. But too bad this is reality, there is no way i would just randomly get a cheat treasure just by going into a random store.

“So what might you be looking for in this decrepit shop of mine?” he asked.

“I was just browsing around looking at the magical devices before i saw the cube. I find magical device interesting.” I answered.

“So,do you see anything that you find interesting?” he asked.

“I saw some that caught my eye but nothing that i would liked to buy” I answered.

“Oh i see, follow me to the back then,i have more” the old man said as he walked through a door.

I followed him, curious at what he had.

He took out a wooden chest and opened it. Inside it were a number of odd trinkets with different shape and sizes. I browsed through it looking for anything that might be worth my time here.

As i was rummaging through i felt a sharp prick. I winced at the pain and saw that my hand had a small cut about. I looked for what cut me and found a small dull black dagger.

Great,i cut myself with a dagger so dull,it can’t even cut paper. The dagger had only one sharp area and that was at the point.

As i gripped the dagger, i felt a suction from the dagger handle. I couldn’t let go.

Shit,what’s going on!

Suddenly the dagger started to absorb my spirit energy from me. I tried to resist it but it was to no avail. After a few seconds it stopped.

I felt a sort of resonance from the dagger as if it was a part of me. I willed it to release from my grip and it did. I willed it to hover on my hand and it flew up and start to hover a few cm above my palm.

“Oh looks like you can use it,i’m impressed” the old man said.

“What’s this dagger?” I asked.

“I’m not really sure myself. It was an old memento from my friend, he told me that only a few people in the world could use it. I tried to use it myself but i couldn’t get it to move to my will. I tried placing mana inside and force it to move but no matter what i do, it was impossible to force mana inside it. So tell me how were you able to move it ?” he asked.

“I don’t know, the moment it touched my hand, i wasn’t able to let go of it. After a few seconds, i just suddenly felt a resonance with it and it moved according to my will” i lied as  i put on an innocent face .

Ha,who can resist an adorable face from a cute girl.

There was no way i was going tell that i can use spirit energy. Even if i was the princess, it would be incredibly dumb of me to just blurt it out.

This knife is such a perfect weapon for spirit energy user. Though it would be better if the only way to attack with it is with the point. If only the edge was not dull, it would be incredible. But i shouldn't complain,i already got a weapon that i can move according to my will. I can just sharpen it when i get to the inn, i have all the knowledge on how to sharpen it in my memory.

He looked at me sheepishly and told me the price of it. After i payed for it,i left the room and saw my guards. They were stood still as if they were in a trance.

“Oh,i forgot about that” the old man said.

As he said that, the guards left out of their stupor.

A shiver went down my spine. If he wanted to do anything to me just now, there was no way me or my guards could have done anything to resist.

How scary!

We left the building to get out of there as fast possible to get away from the old freak. As i was going out i heard the old man whisper using my heightened sense of hearing.

“Ah,so princess is as cute as Ranford said she was. Next time i should go to the castle to see her again,he he he.”

Fuck that creepy! He even knows and talks to my father! Fuck!

After we left, i continued to look around the market place, buying anything i found interesting. I had even managed to find a thigh holster to sheath my knife. The thigh holster wrapped around my thigh underneath my skirt fully hidden from view. The wrapping was made of lace to blend into my stockings.

At least this is one advantage of wearing a skirt. I can hide a weapon underneath it.

After buying everything i wanted and eating dinner, i went back to the inn to rest.
