Chapter 40: What are you?

Chapter 40: What are you?

From a room that is bigger than any landscape, where it was lit up by the strange green liquid inside the multiple chambers shaped like a pillar as tall as a mountain. Inside those chambers are beings with some with features that was impossible for it to exist in the nature curled up in fear and some whose anatomy look more like a pile of vomit than a living being stayed still, accepted its fate.

“Test code 230121.96.15: Human with boundless rank + Dragon God: Sadly, even this human ability can’t cope with the Dragon God mana core at 100% without losing the Dragon God Supreme Rank ability.”

“Test code 230122.96.15: Cerberus + Mutated Manticore: It was a success at first, but it could have been more promising.”

“Test…”

Mummering, a gigantic creature that is just as big as the chamber, resembles the fusion of a fly and a cockroach standing with four of its legs that were spread out like a spider was currently tapping on the glass of the chamber. Ten of its crimson eyes darted left, studying the failure in front of him like a surgeon if that surgeon is working on the atomic level and the spiritual level.

“There is no salvation in this patch, so DIE.”

With one simple word, all the subjects inside the chamber screamed agonizingly before their bodies disintegrated into nothingness, leaving an empty chamber, just as the divine one willed it.

“Now, for the next.“

SLASH

One of his eyes that had been moving crazily exploded in the blink of an eye, yet Beelzebub didn’t flinch in the slightest; black flesh moved from the socket and rebuilt the eye as quickly as how it had gone.

“Hmm, what the?”

Above Beelzebub, space is constantly rippled like the surface of water. From the center of the ripple, something slowly emerged and jumped down right before Beelzebub.

It was a knight in full armor encased in gleaming steel plates that seemed out of this world and shone an otherworldly light that didn’t belong to this world. The weird thing about this armor is chains hanging around the shoulder and the waist; unlike the shining armor, the chains are lackluster as they look like just normal chains.

“What are you?”

The knight raised his head and confronted Beelzebub's ten eyes directly; he then raised his hand and grabbed the hilt of his sword, which was strapped behind his back.

A cold voice escaped from the silver helm, causing the green light to die out and the world to shift.

“Me? I’m just a hero who slays the demon king.”

BOOM

With the bunker entirely collapsed, Kang SilverLight used his mana affinity, which is Earth, to control the soil so that it wouldn’t create any sinkholes. Sighing in relief, Kang SilverLight slowly made his way toward the surface.

The battle sure took a long time, not that it matters due to the time dilation inside the simulation. Horse, despite being a C-rank, is more dangerous than any C-rank in this world. And when he reached B-rank, his power was strong enough to stop even Zeruem and Thane for a moment.

But now he is dead, as are Sheep, Fox, and Kitsune. The writer would be alarmed by this, but they will probably be going to proceed with their plans.

Since it was already too late, Spider, Lizard, and the three mongrels had already infiltrated in the midterm, and the others were on their way to the Hollow.

My note should be sent by Pilet right now; I hope his flight is smooth. Now I should have returned to the dormitory before anyone noticed me.

“What are you really?”

“???”

Unsheathed my sword, I immediately put some distance from the stranger behind and prepared. I can’t sense him at all; what is he?

Facing in front of Kang SilverLight is a masked man with red hair and a traditional butler garment. A deep frown etched across his face on Beelzebub's face as he gazed at Kang SilverLight.

As the two of them read the other, they both conclude that the man in front of them is not normal in any standard way.

“…”

The silence stretched on for a while before Kang decided to break the ice.

“Who are you?”

“Well, care to take a guess?”

“…”

The silence continued, but this time, if gaze could kill, there would be a bloody battle right now.

Beelzebub studied the face of Kang SilverLight carefully; his PTSD was still there but not as intense as before. But the whole reason for it to happen in the first place is the similarity between this little boy and the monster that chopped off his head.

He had seen the faces of other Silverlights, but none of them looked even close to that thing. Not only that, but their demeanor is the same; that eye is no ordinary student but a cold, ruthless hunter.

All of this just intensified his hatred even more now that he had a grip on his mind, yet there was nothing he could do; the boy's ability was simply too strange, and his eye failed to see the soul; he wouldn't be blinded by his emotion like that loser in his head.

Inside Kang’s mind, he figured out that this insolent red-haired man may be a butler, but that is on the outside. His action is more of a thug than a nobleman; maybe that’s why he has a mask. An assassin? Then there should be at least some weapon on him or at least some memory about him.

Yet what is this feeling of uneasiness? This feeling is the same when I encounter Horse, but this time is on a different scale, not in power but in something else that ticks me off.

Why is he outside in the first place? The school is strict about nighttime. And why can’t I sense him? Is it due to his ability? Either way, this man is bad news.

So what should I do now? Should I make a run for it or threaten him? He should know that I’m someone from the SilverLight—WAIT THEN WHY IS HE STILL ACTING SO INSOLENT?

“Are you high?”

“Yes, if you have eyes, you should see that I’m taller than you.”

"Now that’s quite rude, isn’t it?”

“Not as rude as someone pointing a sword at a stranger.”

"Well, you have a mask on you; that’s more than enough reason to draw out a sword, besides your inaudible, arrogant tone.”

“…”

Now even the air got heavy as a fierce spark emerged between them. Beelzebub took a look at Kang before turning his gaze around and sighing.

“You damn soulless bastard, I hope you die.”

“What did you just say?“

“WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

Out of nowhere, the man shrieks at the highest pitch, which is impossible for a human and could cause one’s ear to bleed out. The fuck did he do?

Then, the sound of grass rustling got louder, and light appeared behind me. My expression paled when I heard the sound of the guard behind me.

What’s worse is the culprit has already disappeared without a trace, just like how he arrived.

This goddamn butterfly effect, I haven’t even done anything significant, and there are already holes in this timeline.

“Fuck”

"HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE AT NIGHT?”
