Chapter 24: Aftermath

Chapter 24: Aftermath

Waking up in a familiar room, Beelzebub opens his eyes and utters his first word.

“FUCK”

He has been keeping a façade long enough; now it is time to release it.

“FUCKING, UNGRATEFUL BASTARD, PATHETIC PIECE OF SHIT”

To think that one day another mortal dares to defy him, to challenge him, but the thing is

“Shit, my work, my hard work has been considered nothing.”

He isn’t a demon king anymore; heck, he isn’t even a demon. Now he is a mere mortal, the very thing he despised of. Like a human transforming into a chicken, he now becomes a cattle.

“How could this happen? If only I let that Mamon bastard go first, things wouldn’t have turned out like this.”

But even if he was given a chance to revert to time, his hunger wouldn’t allow another one to steal his meal. At the very least, he would devour anyone with si-silve.

“Fucking humans’s shit, so this trauma.”

Whenever he remembers it, his body freezes, and his mind becomes either blank or agitated. Worst of all, his mental strength becomes all-time low, allowing a certain bastard to take that chance and recover.

But that is all in the past now. He has at least figured out how that works. Sure, the moment he received the trauma, his mind became weak, but for a mere second, his mind became agitated, stronger than ever to stay away from that trauma.

That bastard understands it perfectly, and not only that, he managed to steal my body using that method.

Also, how is he able to absorb all of my knowledge in a short amount of time? He is either missing a few or there is something that can accelerate the process.

But one thing is for sure: he isn’t the pathetic Issac that I first met anymore but a version of me with a human mindset and scheming with all kinds of plans.

“This is even worse than fighting Mamon.”

For now, I must find a way to destroy his soul or absorb a demon with much higher mana than me to become a demon myself.

'Oh, don’t even try it, Beel. I died, and you died too. We are the same mind after all.'

“WHAT THE FUCK”

So he can talk to me; now this is even worse.

“YOU FUCKER”

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

“…”

And he can leave me like that too. This is too damn annoying. Of all the bases I can possess, why does it have to be this one?

“Huff”

Taking a deep breath, I see that it is dark outside. Opening up the window, I look at the night sky once again. Feeling a sense of melody, but I know this isn’t mine.

“It was you, Issac you little shit.”

To think that a plain night sky could attract me like that kind of annoys me, but I do.

“No NO, IF I KEEP SINKING IN, I WON’T BE ABLE TO ESCAPE”

'tch'

“OH YOU MOTHERFUCKER”

“…mister”

Surprised by a small voice, I turned around to see a sleepy Alissa in…pajama.

“…”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Seeing the man keep looking at her, she screamed

“WAIT, ARE YO-“

“No fuck, I’m not that fuck up like Assmo shit.”

“Then wh-“

“Your clothes—I don’t remember you having them.”

“Oh, Rango, buy it for me.”

“…”

So he made money somehow; I’m going to ask him later on.

"But, mister, w-what happen to you?”

“Ah, ahem, to stay on this plane causes my body to lose control sometimes, causing another...demon to invade this body.”

'Bullshit'

"Don’t ask anymore questions.”

“Okay then, mister.”

Alissa sure has a lot of questions to ask, but this is in the middle of the night, and she doesn’t have time or energy to spare for that. How can she, a little human, comprehend a great deity anyway?

Yawning, she tucks her blanket and goes back to sleep.

“But…”

Looking at her sleep like that, Beelzebub doesn’t ask any further.

'Look like someone is changed.'

“S-SHUT UP”

Feeling insulted, he decided to wake her up once again.

“HWUAHH, yes, mister.”

"Where is Rango?”

“He is with Black; apparently they have been hunting bounty for the past few days now.”

“Past few days... How long was I sleeping for?”

“About a week,” Alissa says weakly, then goes back to sleep.

“…”

How in the... I guess I shouldn’t curse anymore; the more I curse, the more irritated I get. I sigh then take out my phone only to remember that I have already given it to Rango.

“Now what? Should I sleep?”

Well, I doubt that bastard can do anything anyway; we are the same soul after all.

*****

Rango is searching the surroundings to find some wanted criminals. For the past week, he has earned himself the nickname of Silent Hill due to the insane number of criminals he caught and the way he overpowered them.

A powerful artifact and a versatile dog armed with his trusty analyzing ability made the capturing job far easier than he had intended.

Chewing on a chocolate bar, he sensed a gaze below. The dog is looking at the snack with hunger.

“You are a dog, so you can’t eat chocolate.”

“Woof”

“You are not even a living being to begin with, so why do you want it?”

“Woof”

"Haizz, here you go.”

To think that I would lose an argument with a dog, I guess I have become too humble now. But that is a good thing, for if I stay arrogant like I used to be, even this dog alone could beat me up. My mana control has been increasing steadily but not as high as Boss or Alissa.

I need more training. Taking a deep sigh, Rango begins to make his way home. However, a small cry echoes in his ear.

“NO, DIE DIE.”

Okay, that is not a small cry at all.

“Go to the source of the sound, Black.”

“Woof”

Shadow surged and enveloped Rango, sending him to a place with a purple glow from the horizon before he resurfaced at the top of a house. Looking down with the shotgun in his hand, he looks down but only sees a...

People were crushed either to the ground or to the floor. They seemed to be badly injured, but that was not what made him freak out. He is afraid of the only figure standing.

A green-haired boy wearing a uniform stands while green energy envelops him; the energy, on the other hand, is so condensed that it makes him suffocate even though the energy isn’t reaching him.

Rango is about to make a run for it only to realize that the boy isn’t moving at all.

He had gone unconscious for some reason. Approaching the boy, Rango was surprised.

“This-this is the little kid from back then?”
