Ch 16 - The Man I Love

Ch 16 - The Man I Love

-Somewhere in New York-

In a dark room, there was a figure sitting on a chair. The figure was looking outside the window, moonlight shining through and falling on the figure of a man, that looked handsome. The scene looked straight out of a novel. The lone figure sitting by the window, thinking about his love of life.

“Boss, we got a problem” This serene looking scene was broken by the intervention of another man, who had suddenly broken into the room and disrupted the lone figure. The lone man stood up from his chair and spoke, his voice carried a deep threatening tone.

“This better be important, Erick.”

“It is boss, Lawren’s dead, we just got the information of his death and there’s another person posing as Lawren, currently controlling all the deals made by the Guild. The worst thing is the resources Lawren had stolen until now are transferred to someone named Scarlet.” As Erick said these words, the pressure in the room increased, Erick was fighting for his life and holding his breath, to not faint in front of his boss. He had hardly seen the calm and composed man suddenly being this angry. Whoever this Scarlet was, is surely going to regret laying her hands on what his boss owned.

“Get me every detail on Scarlet, I want it done by the morning.” The figure of the man vanished from the room and the pressure that Erick was facing, loosened, he could once again breathe.

-The Next Day-

-Liz’s POV-

I was currently on my way to the office and I was getting headaches just from thinking about the word office.

Vorgrim was sitting beside me, Reinard had already given him the schedule and all the information that he needed to know about being my secretary. Reinard had already left last night and John, his duplicate, was gone because he was no longer needed. So I was left with Vorgrim.

We arrived at the Guild half an hour later of driving. I was sure that today would be going like a normal day, only having to deal with meetings and all the work related stuff, there would be no action, no drama, just a CEO doing her job but, I was proven wrong. The moment I entered the Guild building, I was surrounded by the media.

“Miss Scarlet, is it true that you are going to marry Mr Leo”

“Scarlet, when is the wedding?”

“Miss Scarlet, when did you two even meet?” I was bombarded with so many questions like this.

“What are you people even talking about? And who is this Leo?” I questioned them back but the only thing I got in return was more questions and no answers. So I told Vorgrim to make a way to the elevator and we both went into my office.

“What the hell was that? And who the hell is this Leo?” I asked Vorgrim but he just shook his head.

I took out my phone and scrolled the media and what I found was just absurd. There were pictures of me and this Leo guy, walking hand in hand, of us posting about getting married, both of us kissing. After seeing all this, my mind went completely blank, all these photos were taken so well that you wouldn’t even know if that woman with him was me or some random woman.

I looked up to find Vorgrim also looking at the photos, seething in rage, his golden eyes had gained a reddish tint to them. I was about to speak but the next moment I saw a teleportation circle in my office and out of it Reinard appeared, also seething in rage that was much more dangerous than Vorgrim’s. I had to create a barrier to protect my employees or else they would just die, because Reinard’s killing intent was in full blown mode. His every step created cracks on the floor.

“I don’t know about this Reinard, so please calm down, I know seeing this must’ve hurt you but that woman is just not me, alright?” I told him and I don't even know why I said those words but the only thing I saw was his lips pressing down on my own. He was kissing me so passionately that I had completely forgotten who he was and what he was doing right now. I could then see his true appearance again. He was my Reinard, the one that I loved, the one that I would even die for. All of my memories vividly played in my mind. And the words that he said to me the last time I saw him in his real appearance, clicked in my mind.

“My dear Liz, I'm sorry but this is necessary for me to do. I don’t want this to happen but there is a reason for all things. Please don’t hate me if you remember these words. I Love You, my sweet Lizandra.” The memories of him becoming my servant and all those moments completely vanished from my mind, filling me only with our sweet memories.

-A Few Minutes Ago-

-Reinard’s POV-

I was walking around the Guild as usual, doing the morning inspection. And I found a few people talking about something very unusual. They were a group of women, fangirling about how a guy named Leo, who was marrying someone, saying how lucky the girl was. Being a little curious, I walked up to them and asked them.

“What are you girls talking about?”

“Sir, we’re very sorry about this, we shouldn’t be talking about things like this but you have to see this Sir” The moment the woman showed me her phone. My mind went haywire, Lizandra’s duplicate was in the half destroyed L.A. and Lizandra, posing as Scarlet, was doing work at the Merchant Guild. So how did this even happen? How could I not know about this? I thought about many possibilities and nothing came up, I couldn’t think because the next picture that I saw made me so angry that I immediately teleported to Lizandra’s office in New York. My mind was only thinking about how I would kill this Leo guy, for touching what was mine and mine alone. I was releasing my killing intent all around and then I saw Lizandra looking at the same photos that I just saw. My possessive side took hold of me. The decisions that I made all those centuries ago were waning by the second. I walked up to her, looking at those delicious lips made me recall the days, when everything was good and I didn’t have to pretend about being her butler. I knew what I was doing and this was going to cause a lot of problems and she sure as hell was going to be angry with me. But I couldn’t hold myself back. It had been centuries and the only thing I could do was pretend and pretend and keep this facade going. Then everything came crashing down, I held her face gently and kissed her passionately, making her remember all the things we did and a few minutes later, she was panting, trying to catch her breath and just like that my decision to lock her memories had vanished taking us back to where we both lost something more precious to us than even our lives.

-Liz’s POV-

Reinard had released me from his passionate kiss and I was trying to catch my breath. I remembered everything. The moments we had spent, the fruit of our union and I started crying. I was losing my mind, remembering all those things, the moment Reinard decided to lock my memories away. I wailed and kept wailing for a long time as Reinard held me to his chest, crying with me.

-An hour later-

I was back to normal, still weeping a little bit but I had calmed down.

“Why Reinard, what had we done wrong. We just went for a while and left Rosie with her. Why did it have to happen? Why could I not resurrect her…whyyyyyyyyy??” I cried out loud to Reinard who looked at me with sad eyes.

-A few Centuries Ago-

“So Reinard, what do you think?” asked a beautiful woman, who looked like she had fallen right from heaven. She had white hair, blue sapphire eyes and a smile on her face that said a lot of things.

“You look gorgeous, my darling,” said the man, whose handsomeness knew no bounds. He had golden hair, a sharp jawline, red glowing eyes and his face looked like it had been carved carefully by the gods.

“So when are we leaving?”asked the woman to her handsome husband.

“Now, if you like it, are you sure that we should leave her with Rosie?” the handsome man asked the heavenly beauty while caressing her hands.

“It’s fine, you know how Rosie is, she wouldn’t mind taking care of her for a few hours.”

“Alright, if you say so my darling. We should get going then.” as they were about to leave, Rosie entered the room holding a girl, around 5 years old. The girl had the beauty of her parents, her eyes were red and her hair was white. She resembled her mother a lot more than her father.

“Sister, it’s nice to see you and how are you my sweet little bun” Lizandra spoke to Rosie, her sister, as she took her little bun from Rosie’s arms.

“I’m good, but Julie here wanted to see you both before you left.”

“Aww…you wanted to see mama and papa” Lizandra spoke to her daughter as Reinard watched the sweet interaction between them. ‘I’d never grow old of this’ Reinard thought to himself.

“Yes mommy, I wanted to see you both.” spoke Julie.

The four people spent a few more minutes chatting and eventually Reinard and Lizandra left.

-A Few Hours Later-

“Hey, do you think Julie will like this?” Lizandra spoke to her husband while showing him a cute dress.

“I’m sure the little princess would like it.”

“Yeah I think so too.” Lizandra spoke to Reinard.

The both of them were in their carriage, heading back to their home. It was a small place, far away from humans and monsters alike. As the both of them drew near their home, they could see smoke rising in the air. Both of them panicked and left their carriage and flew towards their home, only to find ashes and bodies littered all across the field. They quickly reached down and found a half dead Rosie fighting for her last breath while holding Julie to her chest.

“Juliieeeeeeee” both Reinard and Lizandra called out but they couldn’t even hear anything, except for the breaths of Rosie, they tried every healing magic they could but she didn’t heal.

“St….op it. Ple…ase.” Rosie spoke her last words.

“Reinard please, why aren’t they healing? Help me Reinard, help me.” Reinard couldn’t do anything besides sitting with his wife who was crying her heart and he himself was crying out his tears, cursing himself for leaving Rosie and Julie at the house. He didn’t have the heart to do this but it was necessary, so he held his dear in his arms and spoke to her.

“My dear Liz, I'm sorry but this is necessary for me to do. I don’t want this to happen but there is a reason for all things. Please don’t hate me if you remember these words. I Love You, my sweet Lizandra.”

-Back to Present-

-Reinard’s POV-

I was sitting beside Liz, who had slept just a while ago, her mind was a mess, so her only solace was to sleep and that was what she did after crying for hours. It was already afternoon.

“Baby, I know I shouldn’t have done this but, I couldn’t see you so sad after losing Julie. I’m sorry Liz, I’m sorry.” I spoke to her even though I knew she wouldn’t be hearing this.

I recalled the time when I got to know who killed Rosie and Julie.

As soon as I locked my wife’s memories. I went to hunt whoever had done this to my family. It only took me a few hours to find the person. It was none other than the king, who had invited us to his palace that morning. Without thinking anything I had razed the entire kingdom to the ground, but still my heart, having not been satisfied by the death of the ones who killed my child and sister-in-law. I went on to destroy the whole world and eventually left with Lizandra to find a new world.

-A Few Hours Later-

-Liz’s POV-

‘Ugh… this headache’ I woke up only for the memories to hit me and I found myself wrapped in a tight hug.

“Reinard”

“Yes, my sweetheart.”

“I think the time that you gave me was enough. We should move on now. I will never let something like that ever happen, Reinard, so please don’t lock my memories again, promise me Reinard.” I looked up at his handsome face and spoke to him.

“As you say, Liz, as you say.”

“I know what you did to me was because you couldn't see me crying and living like an empty but what about the people who killed Julie and Rosie?” I asked him in a sad tone, the memories now clear in my head. I wanted to weep, but I held back and recalled the good memories I spent with Reinard.

“I killed them all” hearing that my heart felt solace, knowing that the culprits were dead. But so were my sister and child.

“Hey Reinard, can we go back to how things were?”

“We sure can, sweetheart, we’ll make new memories from now on, how about that?”

“Sure” I spoke to him as he held me in his embrace, saying comforting words to me.
