Ch 11 - The Destruction of L.A.

-Luna’s POV-

I could feel the tremors those monstrosities were creating as they approached this city. We had gathered every adventurer available in the city from F Rank to B Rank to act as the last line of defense until the other S Rankers arrived and the A Rankers and S Rankers from this city were the frontliners. There were only 5 Guilds in L.A. The Warriors, The Dominions, The Deadly Spirits, The Angels and my own Guild The Cuties. Although having The Angels guild on our side had raised a lot of morale because the S Rankers of The Angels were also standing at the back, acting as the last line of defense. The Guild Master of The Angels and all their Rankers were on the way here. This threat was not a joke at all.

I looked at Lily who was gazing up at the sky and I followed her eyes, looking at the sky as well. Ever since she had joined my guild. I had a nagging feeling at the back of my head, that there was something more to her than being a 35 year old woman, who is now an S Ranker. She’s been a big help to my guild and this city, going around clearing all the A Ranked dungeons, helping the people of this city. But this all feels like it's staged by her. Although I do want to believe her, that she was just doing these things because she wanted to help humanity, but that nagging feeling had never left me.

-Scarlet’s POV-

‘She didn’t even mention that all this mess was gonna happen and I have to deal with it now, fuck !!’ I had already left the city and was currently on a private plane heading to New York, I had already given John some orders before leaving L.A. It was just a temporary visit to New York.

-A Few Hours Later-

I was on my way to my penthouse in New York, the one 'he' had purchased for me. But just then my phone rang. It was a call from 'him'.

“Where are you now?” I could hear his voice, his tone was the usual cold one. He’d never talk to me like this if I was the real one but alas I was not her.

“I’m heading towards the penthouse in New York, why’d you ask?”

“What about her?” he answered, ignoring my questions like always.

“She didn’t leave, the last time I saw her was on the walls of L.A. looking up at the sky” I answered him curtly. Why should I be polite to a person who keeps ignoring my questions and not having a proper conversation with me.

“Good, now I want you to move every one of our dime and dollar to L.A. once the matters settle. I won’t tell you much, just do the work that was given to you” he cuts the line right after saying this. I remember what she had told me to do and that was what I was doing, I didn’t need to be reminded of the things that I was already doing. ‘Damn that guy and his coldness towards me !!’.

-Liz’s POV-

“Hey GUILD MASTER, they’re coming, pray tell me, what’s my role here?” I ask Luna in a sarcastic tone as I see the monsters approaching the city. I take a look at Luna who stops looking at the sky and answers me.

“Just kill and hold them back from destroying this city. There may be a hundred of those monstrosities but the mob below them is in thousands. Just go wild and protect this city” Instead of getting annoyed at me she says it, more like a desperate plea of a scared person.

“Sure thing GUILD MASTER, let’s have a nice lunch that you promised me after finishing this matter.” I give her a last look before jumping off the wall and going straight towards the monsters. Seeing my approach the other adventurers take that as the start of the battle and also jump down from the wall. It may be a 100 meter wall but for adventurers like us this was nothing compared to facing monsters daily.

I had already decided to put on a good show for adventurers and earn myself even more reputation because of the actions that I was gonna do now. ‘Having more reputation will help me in the long run because I want all these people by my side when the World Updates’.

-2 minutes later-

I gaze up at the monstrosity in front of me. I was already standing at the feet of the Dragon that stood at least 150 meters in height and was currently busy burning the whole forest in its path as it approached the city. The thing with monsters is that they are always trying to fill their mana cores and what’s better than the mana of a few strong people who can become their food and help them grow even stronger than before.

I had thought of using the most lethal spell of mine to destroy every monster on this planet but where’s the fun in that. I was bored of staying on Elanoir for eons now, repeating the same stuff over and over again, having explored everything that was to be explored back on Elanoir and the Universe around it. I wanted to find something interesting and now after coming back, I felt like I had found my purpose. I looked at the dragon who was breathing fire right on my face and trying everything he could to crush me but I remained unfazed by it. There was no one around me, everyone was already fighting the monstrosities.

“You are not from this World, what are you doing here?” I asked the dragon who looked at me with a bit of curiosity in its eyes because, who would ever talk to a dragon trying to kill you, you’d rather flee, than have a chat with it.

“Human, get out of my way and you’ll be spared. I don’t talk to lowly beings such as yourself but seeing that you can survive my fire, this’ll be my last warning to you. LEAVE” he lets out a terrifying roar that freezes everyone on the battlefield including the monsters.

“Oh.. how about you make me leave” I say to the dragon but he teleports both of us inside his domain spell. The world around me changes to a field of whiteness as far as the eyes can see. The dragon standing right in front of me.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“Your little provocations won’t work, human. Stop trying to waste my time.” saying this he shoots a sphere of darkness at me, which gets devoured by the void barrier surrounding me. Seeing that his attack failed, he keeps on going, using every spell he has from using the continent destroying spells to the world destroying spells, but each and every last one of them gets devoured by my barrier.

“What was it that you said, 'little provocations’ right? How about I show you a spell of mine now that you've shown me yours” I tell him while flying up right in front of his snout, looking straight in those fiery eyes of his.

I gave the dragon a last look and used a mana barrier to surround the dragon in a dome and, with just a clench of my fist the barrier crushed down on the dragon, making it into a meat paste that was highly nutritious, and full of mana. It may look like I had just used brute force to crush it but no, the dragons are feared for a reason. It’s their ability to manipulate the elements without using mana from their body and simply willing the mana in the surroundings to do their bidding. Their physical power was also not a joke. They had the power to destroy whole worlds if left alone to explore their ability to manipulate the elements of nature and develop their bodies.

This dragon was the one that I had seen on the 100th floor of the dungeon. I hadn’t thought that It’d leave during the dungeon break, so to prevent a massive disaster I had to do something about it. I took the meat paste and put it inside my dimensional space.

The world returned to normal and I was back on Earth. I look at the battlefield behind me and saw some of those monstrosities had already breached the wall and were currently destroying the city while all the Adventurers were hard at battle. I immediately teleported back to the city.

-Luna’s POV-

‘Dammit all, that roar we just heard was from a dragon. How the hell are we even gonna defeat it?’ I think to myself as I see the system message in front of me.

[You have heard the Roar of a Calamity Dragon. You are unable to move for 5 minutes due to fear.]

I look on as every adventurer gets this message, even the monsters have frozen in their place. But the monsters were frozen for less time than us, I see some of the adventurers getting crushed by them as they move towards the walls of the city. Even with the heavy artillery provided by the Angels, the monsters keep moving and eventually breach the walls. As soon as everyone was able to move, we all rushed towards the city to help the adventurers acting as the last line of defense. The dragon's roar that we heard was right after the adventurers started fighting the monsters. So the number of monsters was still almost the same, around a thousand, including the small fries. Still the S Rankers made quick work of them and killed tens of small fries all on their own, leaving only the hundred monstrosities. This all had happened in less than 5 minutes since the battle had started, demonstrating the power S rankers had to deal with even the mutated A Ranked monsters. I rush up to a behemoth of a spider who is running in the city, demolishing the building just from his movements alone, I used my Heavenly Sphere spell to create a mini sun and launched it straight at the spider but suddenly I see a shadow as the spider had already moved from its place at such high speed that even my eyes couldn’t believe it and I see one of it’s legs approaching to crush me. The spider’s height was about 30 stories and the leg that was approaching me looked like a building was about to collapse on me. I tried to move out of the way but I couldn’t because I was stuck in the webs that it had launched at me right before using his leg to crush me. Having power to level cities was different than having power to level a whole continent. So I braced myself for the impact, hoping to survive even if half of my body may be destroyed. These thoughts didn’t take long to process in my head.

Just as I was about to be crushed by the leg, I saw a fire, covering the whole spider’s body and burning the webs holding me. I looked at the Guild Master of The Angels, Jim, who had just saved my life.

“Why are you so pathetic, always needing someone to save you” Jim said while giving orders to his people to take down every mob while the S Rankers took out the mutated S Ranked monsters.

“I don’t have your Hellfire, Jim” I say to him as he uses his Hellfire and burns down the Spider.

“Oh yeah, tell me something new then”

“Well, have you ever fought a dragon before?” I ask him in a sarcastic tone.

-Liz’s POV-

Seeing that Luna is saved by the Guild Master of The Angels, I quickly head towards the other monsters and help the newly arrived S Rankers in taking down the monstrosities using just my wind, fire, ice and pure mana spells because I didn’t want to show any other abilities that I, as Lily, have never used. All the while other adventurers had already made a good work of the thousand or so mobs.

Teleporting all round the city I helped the adventurers that were struggling to fight some of the behemoths, using the wind, fire and ice spells to save some of them and also help in killing the monstrosities. It was a gruesome battle, insides of the monsters spread throughout the city, adventurers covered in those insides and blood.

I looked around as I spotted Jim the Guild Master of Angels and Luna fighting alongside the newly arrived S Rankers, all of them fighting in a formation that left none of the behemoths alive by the time they were done with them.

There were times when they all had close calls but, they all made it. I could have gone to help them but I decided that it was better to be among adventurers who would respect your power rather than doubting it and because of, all the shit show happening around them, the calm and composed S Rankers would remember you, question your powers later on just because you saved them or helped them.

But in the end I went against my thoughts and helped them a few times, saving them from certain deaths. I had only helped the Guild Masters of all the Guilds present here, so that in future they would remain indebted to me. Everything was going according to the plan. The mutated S Ranked Dungeon was not that much of a problem Luna had thought it to be. It was just something more than the S Ranked Dungeon she had faced, from her memories that I had seen.It was similar to the power level of that Dragon. It might have been a lot worse than this if the Dragon had remained on the battlefield. None of these people could have even come so much as close to even inflicting a scratch on him.

-A Few Hours Later-

The sun was already rising from the east. The monsters had made a mess of this beautiful city.

The buildings were crushed, the corpses were spread out through the city, both of the adventurers and the monsters. We lost hundreds of adventurers today. But it all had come to an end. The injured were getting healed on top of the remaining walls of the city.

‘Well, this sure is a lot of mess’ I think to myself as I look at the half destroyed city.

All this chaos was my doing but, as my saying go ‘To own something it's better to destroy and rebuild other's work rather than building something from scratch because it will just be a waste of time.' Some might agree with this and some might not. But it was the choice I had made and I wasn’t going to back down from it. The time that I had was a lot less than I had calculated. The Dragon was the one that made me recalculate the time needed for the World to be Updated but there was also another reason to it. L.A. had a lot of A Ranked adventurers, about a million and I wanted all of them to level up from this disaster and get to S Rank as soon as possible. Sacrificing a few hundred other Ranked adventurers was just a small price to upgrade the A Rankers to S Rankers. I might sound cruel, but it's what I am and will always be.
