There were four days of Dom’s coma left and I cooked my way through each and every one of them. The city was replacing Fizz-butt with another High Priest, but there just wasn’t much Kat or I could do about it. The engine had a story to play out. We waited.
Honestly, I was waiting for you to get to this part. Here it goes. The pitch.
The game engine and I are still fixing the world, but if you want in, there’s this button you can push to get here. See it? It’s down at the bottom where you can post a review. I know it sounds cheesy and stupid, but hey, it’s the only way I can get enough information on you to pull you into the machine. It doesn’t have to be an amazingly detailed review, since we’re not really ready to overrun the server with a ton of peeps, but consider it a blue pill, red pill scenario.
If you think you can help create a story that can not get shelved, what have you got to lose? I know you’re not making a ton of money since nobody has donated to our Patreon page. You’re broke like us, probably.
Oh yeah! We made a few changes you should be aware of before you pop in.
1). We fixed the animals. As one of our beta players, you’ll get to help name anything we missed. That probably shouldn’t have been number one, but heck who cares at this point, right?
2). We made it so you can come and go as you please. As long as you’re working on your story, you can get back in. If your story is shelved, you’ll have to update your review to get back in and it’ll reset your character and starting point so you can try something else.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
3). We fixed the time thing. How stupid was it that time moved slower in the game? You can come spend a real world weekend in the game and get about four chapters worth of story out of it.
4). Fast travel has been implemented and the nauseating carriages have been replaced. Set up a travel and log out. Go grab a bite to eat. You’ll be at your destination when you log back in.
5). Starting stats will be variable and you’ll get to start without some stunted training wheels. We’re all gamers here so I figure you can handle diving right in. Oh, and we’ve also deleted the mouth of dirt thing. You’ll get a dressing room. It’s pretty cool actually as Sammi has put stars on the doors that fill in your name when you choose it, not that you get to see that part, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
6). The game will never again pull in an unwilling potential author (kidnapping is illegal for a reason). Our conflicts have been randomized and pulled from an exhausting number of books and movies collected and reviewed by the constructs and the game engine.
7). Authors will be paid (slavery is also illegal) in god cards at a rate of nine to one. That means if your story earns ten god cards, one of them is ours and the rest are yours. Make your wishes and live your dreams but try not to break the world so badly that we have to come in and fix it ourselves. Kat’s grumpy when she has to take time off of game design to fix wishes and has a lot of experience on the Evil Genie forums, so consider yourself warned.
I’ll come back and add stuff as we get to it, but hey, it’s a work in progress. That’s what makes Royal Road great! Okay so look, even if this is a whole scam to get you to write a hundred words or so, give it a shot. We could use a few more readers. God cards don’t come cheap. Only the folks that get to the end even get the pitch and that is a very very very very very few people, let me tell you.
This is what you do. Send in that review, mark us as a favorite, and follow the story. That night, go to bed like normal and pretend this is all just another book on Royal Road. Just do that at the beginning of a weekend, okay? See you soon. Kat says hi.
