I start to tell him about my ability, “ The name of my ability is ' Modulator '. My ability can create small marble sized module, it has the magical or physical properties of natural materials like leather, fur, teeth, eyes etc. different animal parts, different parts of plants, rocks or the unrefined by products of natural phenomena that has been used to make it. If the material has been refined so much that it does not bear a resemblance to its natural form it cannot be used to make a module. I can feel what kind of magical effect the module might have by seeing or touching it. I can only put these modules in compatible items, like a module with the power of skin-hardening in a leather jacket but not in a wooden spoon. I can tweak the modules a little bit after their creation. No one can safely extract a module from a item that has it, except for me. But you should know that if you take out a module from a modulated item then that item will be fundamentally damaged until you put it’s module back in. If a item with a module has been sufficiently damaged the module stops working.” I look at him and see that he is in deep thought. I also thought to myself, “ I also did not tell you that I can create modules of illusions and that I can store modules in myself.”
Mr Oliver suddenly asked, “ So the item and the module needs to be compatible to work at a greater efficiency, is that why some of the generic items such as the bark skin rings are inefficient for you?”
I reply, “ Yes, as normally the module wants to apply to the ring, but as I want to detach that output it creates inefficiencies.”
He types at the holographic screen and a plush red chair start to rise from the floor in front of me. He looks at it and then me. “Please sit down.” He says, “ Someone will come around with some materials, demonstrate your ability on them, please.” After saying that he starts to type on his screen while ignoring me. A couple minutes go by without someone coming by or Mr Oliver even looking at me. I sigh and check which modules I have stored on me. As I was starting to check on my modules I hear a beep. Mr Oliver suddenly looks at the door and it opens. On other side was a young man with blonde curly hair, piercing blue eyes, clean shaven cheeks. But body was like a wall of muscle, his body was big in proportion to his small head. “ He must a brute mutant class ability user,” I thought to myself. He was wearing a black tuxedo just like the holographic butler I first met. In his hands were a tray filled with some things.
He comes lumbering towards me and puts the tray on the table, then he just goes and stands to the side. I look Mr Oliver and he says, “ Begin your show then, Mr Anavrit.”
I look at the stuff on the tray, I find a pair of wooden daggers, one of which has some kind of inscription on it , some thorns, some fangs, some black claws, a cup of blood, a bud of blood rose, which I identified at sight because of its dark crimson colour and texture of dried blood, also some wood that look like bones. I look at Mr Oliver curiously and say, “ if you tell me what these ingredients are I will be able to make something better.”
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“ Is that so! Then Tayler, please tell Mr Anavrit about these.” Mr Oliver says looking at the hulking man by his side. Taylor looks at me and says in a voice which is surprising high pitched for body of his size, “ One of those dagger is a normal if a little sharper wooden dagger and the other one is the same but with a runic inscription which takes a bit of the wielder’s aether making it’s cuts bleed more. The thorns are from a blood sapper plant, fangs are of a vampire bat, the claws of a ghoul, the blood of a blood slime and that bud is a blood rose, the branches are from a bone attuned blight spriggan.” After saying that much Taylor doesn’t say anything. I look at Mr Oliver and ask, “ Do you have some kind of enchantment in mind? And before you ask, yes I can put modules in that inscribed dagger if there are no anti-tamper system in place.” As I was saying the last part I look at Taylor, who shakes his head side to side. “ I do not have any expectations. So surprise me.” Mr Oliver says while looking intently at the materials.
I shrug and start thinking what these could be made into. I get a splash of inspiration. I look over at Mr Oliver to ask for some tools. He just looks at me with a smile and points at the side of the room where I see some people were setting up a table with multiple tools. I flush a little from spacing out in the middle of a meeting and not noticing people setting up the workstation. I quickly take the tray full of ingredients to the table and putting them down while my back was to the man to hide my embarrassment.
I take two finger length branches of the spriggan to a grinder. After grinding them to a fine powder I put them into the cup. Then I do the same thing with three black ghoul claws the size of my pinky finger. As I mix them I add little bit of my aether into it to mix them not just physically but also magically. The mixture starts to take a bit of a yellowish colour and becomes more viscous.
I then take a long fang of a vampire bat the size of a finger and half, I put its base at the base of the rose bud and put a bit of the blood mixture there. I coax the mixture with a bit of freeform nature attuned aether manipulation. The blood coagulates into a fleshy form that glues the two together. I then start adorning the thorns the same way on the side of the fang as if the fang was the stem of the flower.
As I look up for a bit. I notice that Mr Oliver has risen from his seat and is watching me work with a fascinated look. I again concentrate on my work.
I take the thorn and bud adorned fang and put it in the blood mixture filled cup, the bud facing upwards. As I put it in the cup and stimulate it with nature attuned aether. I see that the fang start sucking up the mixture, the thorns pulsing red slightly and the bud start to bloom.
I activate my ability, the flower starts to glow. It begins to drink the mixture faster and blooms fully. Before I could get good look at it, it implodes and my aether begins to mingle with it faster and faster. I go into a concentrative trance. When I come out of that trance I see than in that cup is a marble in which a field of miniature rose briar which has the colour and texture of sickly flesh. It’s thorns are like black fangs mad of wood that thirst for blood. At its centre is a giant rose whose petals are covered in blood which drips from it and drops on the briars which soaks it right up.
I feel a bit of a headache from too much aether usage. “ It looks like this took a lot of aether to make, this better have a good ability.” I say under my breath as I look at Mr Oliver, who looks at the marble shaped module in wonder.
